- My name is Erik and I’m a digital nomad, living in my car and traveling the country in my Subaru Forester. Today I am escaping normal life in North Carolina. I spent about a week traveling on and off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Making stops in Asheville, Black Mountain, Old Fort, the Pisgah National Forest, Crabtree Falls, Linville Gorge, and Table Rock. I spent a night tent camping under the stars on top of Carver's Gap and took some rides down some natural water slides at Sliding Rock. I absolutely loved my time in North Carolina and I can't wait to go back!

Hi Erik, was excited to see a video from you today. As soon as I got home from work I made dinner and sat down to watch. I wasn't disappointed, it was so cool to see all the views and you were cooking like a boss with steak/veggies pasta out of the car. I know you were talking about missing seeing friends and family and not having many possessions now, but this adventure doesn't have to be for the rest of your life. I would just enjoy what your doing call friends and family to chat on occasion and enjoy your time. Probably the biggest thing is maybe talking to strangers (don't take candy if they offer it) but get out of your comfort zone and chat with someone, even if its random directions or wheres a good place to checkout in the area thats free. I've done that several times and just the brief interactions stayed with me for the day.

yeah, you’re right. and i do actually have conversions with strangers sometimes. while i didn’t film it- i actually met a fellow hiker when hiking up to that cliff. we hiked together about half the way until i turned around and he kept going another few miles. and you’re right- those are the interactions that i take with me the most. it’s probably even more meaningful since i didn’t film any of it

@@chucktrow8577 I met Eric today. I got to see his kitchen setup. It's really impressive. He was super helpful, as I've been doing this for nearly 2 years completely on my own. While I've had people along the way give me very general help ("do a search and see what you come up with"), Eric offered actual solid websites or apps. Great conversation. If it wasn't 500° out I'd probably have chatted a bit longer.
Love NC! My mom is from there. She went to college in Ashville, and all of her side of my family lives there. We live in Southern California, and very other summer growing up my family would drive across the country to spend a month there to visit my grandmother and the rest of the relatives there and in South Carolina. Now as an adult, my trips back have become once every 5 years or so. I miss that place!!! 🥲Beautiful video, that sliding down the rocks looks epic! I'm glad you're back on the road, and making videos again of your travels. 🙂

hey!! yes- it was great to meet you! hope you check out some of those places down in N Carolina. Roan Mtn (free). go up to Carvers Gap there. Sliding Rock in the Pisgah Nat Forest (lots of places to sleep for free in the forest). Black Mtn (cool lil town)
and make sure to download iOverlander to help find sleeping spots, water, WIFI, propane and so much else. I contribute to that as much as i can to help others.
another great app is Sekr. It’s a nomad community app that does have ways to find sleeping spots as well, but it’s mostly so you can connect with other travelers. I went to a Nomad event i heard about on there called Skoolipalooza out in Quartzsite, AZ- in the middle of the desert- and it was awesome! ended meeting a few fellow travelers that way. that was also a free event.

Quartzsite isn’t amazing- but there’s just endless camping out there on BLM land. And if you go in Feb or something like that- then you can see the world’s biggest RV show. it’s HUGE. overall it’s just a small desert town but it does have some amazing free places to stay EVERYWHERE around there. plus you’re really close to Joshua Tree.

Car camping can be tuff here in wnc
it was a tad warm during the day- but i mostly stayed up in the mountains at night. so wasn’t bad. beautiful area!
