The 5.4 is a good engine, but the Mazda pickup is the same thing as the ranger. Lincoln pickup is a f150 why not just put the f150. Also the Chevy Avalanche is terrible in every way do not buy a truck that will die at 30,000 miles.
The 5.4 2 valve is long lasting reliable....the 3 valve version is indeed a disaster, I assume that's the version you were referring to?... but ones were owners were on top of oil changes with quality oil, those make it to 250 - 300K. Yes, the 4.0 SOHC is garbage until about 2002 in which some improvements were done to timing cassette tensioners...still not bulletproof though but made them 300K engines....I've heard more improvements were done to it after 2002 making it even more reliable.
The Ford 5.4L 2 valve motor is totally different then the 4 valve. Had a company truck that had well over 300,000 miles on the original trans and motor. Maintenance was never regular but was a fleet vehicle so it eventually got done. Only the second Ford I have ever spent a lot of time in that truly impressed me.
The M5OD will go 500,000 if taken care of. There is a manual transmission fluid additive that helps it shift super smooth and go into reverse when cold.

Triton isn't bad, I have a 2007 f150 with one and it has 300,000 on it I have put less then 2,000 into it
If the 5.4 Triton is bad then so is the LS find all of those in the junkyard
