Hi Tom. Really good video. I am trying out FT8 but don't own a computer. Not everyone can afford a computer. It would be great to see another Ham just using an old phone and a cheap radio etc. Video etc. Ps I don't own a Tablet etc. Cheers from George in the UK.

There are micro computers on the market with WSJTx preinstalled. It also has the HF clock installed, that should be enough for a YT search …. They run in the$50-$60 range, and you can usually find a cheap used monitor around. FWIW the enjoyment you’ll get is well worth it…

Good tips Tom! I'm one of those guys who have accidentally answered a CQ DX. Usually a state I'm looking for (I have Gridtracker announcing "Wanted States") - I get excited and click their call and a few seconds later (while I'm transmitting) realize that they were calling DX. Usually they answer which is cool. I've also had people call me direct when they see me in other QSOs since they are looking for a station in Delaware. All good as far as I'm concerned. Hopefully we can get more folks on FT4 - after you use it for a while it's hard to go back to FT8 where everything is twice as slow. LOL

It’s an easy mistake to make, and certainly not unforgivable…. I don’t often call CQ DX, but when I do, I’ve got my reasons…. Hihi. 73

Hey Tom, Great tips. You got me started in FT8 and I'm having a great time. I'm using Grid Tracker and learning. I also answered a CQ DX today. Almost answered a CQ WY but figured out they were going after that state only. I will put these tips into use on my next session. 73 to you. Tom W6TDC 😊

Great video! You just did not mention calling outside 300 Hz to 3 kHz. My transceiver Xiegu G90 has transmitting range from 300 2800 kHz. Noticed some goes far too low (for example 89 Hz), or far too high (2890 Hz). So, when I call those people, my transmitter putting out 0 watts. Only solution to enable "Hold TX Freq" and chose what is clear on my side.
