Tkachuk is one of those players you hate when he's not on your team. If I wasn't a Flames fan, I'd probably hate the kid, but God am I glad he's playing for Calgary.

As a Leafs fan, I would NOT condone Tkachuk's dirty play if he was on Toronto. Dirty hockey has no place in the NHL.

I don't think Doughty needed to fight Tkachuk, but man, as an unbiased hockey fan of another team, you gotta love the way Tkachuk plays. Really impressed and big enough to take his own fights after stepping over the edge.

Drew doesn't have to prove his toughness to anyone. If Doughty fought it would've been a win-win for the Flames cuz they get Doughty off of the ice for 5 minutes of the game... Smart by him and probably his coach had him do that as well. They're still technically fighting for a playoff spot. Goes to show how much he cares about his team by putting them before himself, unlike Tkachuck

Exactly. To me, the mindset isn't "Am I going to let a teenager try to punk me like that?" It's "I'm not going to let a teenager take me off the ice and impact the game for five minutes."
He just didn't want to get speedbagged like Thornton did to him. He's not a good fighter, just a yapper.
He has about zero class and tries to say he is tough and beaks about Tkachuk but when Tkachuk tries to fight him he chickens out and backs off because he doesn't want to make a complete IDIOT of himself.
if doughty is so good then why does he attack Tkachuk after his big friends come and defend him but when Tkachuk wants to stand up for himself he doesn't fight Tkachuk

He doesn't have to fight him at all, but if I am Doughty I WANT to fight Tkachuk myself and not leave my teammates to handle it. I can understand why he didn't but I mean its a little bit embarassing that he didn't want to go toe to toe with that kid himself.
I cant think of a single sport except for hockey where you have professional reporters (or whatever these people call themselves) discussing whetever or not a player should break the rules of the game or not, and even coming to the conclussion that, yes! yes he should! He should have broken the rules.

Its actually important that drew doesnt fight him. Not drews job. Would be dragging drew to lower levels and getting him off the ice where he belongs. If Tkachuk keeps picking on doughty in future at some point id say maybe doughty should just slash his hands off.

I think Doughty should have fought, he was practically getting shown up by a teenager. Doughty is a stud and a superstar of a dman, but he is known for blabbing his mouth, can talk the talk, and thrives when he's playing physical and talking dirt to everyone, but he needs to drop the gloves to stand up for himself. Don't have the goons do the job for him because of his superstar status.
I think the problem isn't that Doughty didn't fight Tkachuk, the problem is that the Kings should've had someone fight him for Doughty at the beginning of the game. Obviously the kid was ready and everyone was expecting it but the Kings looked like pushovers by not standing up for themselves. All bark and no bite.
Remind me again who didn't make the playoffs?

The idea is to take the best player off the ice. Which Doughty. Five mins off the ice. I still say the same thing, take off the helmets & fight like MEN. Ya, break a hand & ruin your career. Notice Iginla didn't use his fist, he used his forearm, of course, how many breaken fingers has he had ? The players union need to step-in. Your are never going to stop fighting because the stick will be used more often. Complicated !

I am a flames fan I think this game was a good lesson for Tkachuk to find the line to walk in a game. Though out the year he has drawn more penalties then he has taken. This game was a mistake nothing more..

Doughty is a wuss. it is better to settle it now, when there is SOMETHING on the line for the Kings. Calgary and LA will meet once more before the post season. The Kings will be on the outside, looking in on the Flames. At this point, it is too late for Doughty, or anyone on the Kings for that matter, to settle this 'love' affair. Doughty is a great player, but he is not tough. A 19-year old rookie just ground the balls of a Norris Trophy winner into dust.

Now everyone knows you can cheap shot a "star" player like Doughty and get away with just having to square up against McNabb. People saying Doughty doesnt have to prove his toughness doesnt understand hockey or sports in general. This is a competitive sport and regardless of respect some players have, they will always play hard and do what it takes to get the upper hand. Now they know they can be hard on him with no push back. Yes, i dont call what the Kings did in that game push back.

DD will give him lesson when it's time. Or somebody else. Plus, I think the kid is on some stimulant because of his overall high body nervousness. Just my thought.

Tkachuk would have whooped Doughty and Doughty knows that so he didn't go after him. Tkachuk is one tough scrapper, that's not Doughty's game. Doughty made the smart move he would have been beat up by a 19y/o kid, think about what people would be saying if that happened?

Fighting definitely has a purpose. Hockey is a physical game. If a player (like Tkachuk) steps out of line, either that player or another player on the team might have to fight. This regulates the conduct of players to some degree. Even if the player who steps out of line doesn't fight but someone else on their team (Engelland for example) does, it has the same effect. If you know that you wont fight but one of your teammates might have to, you would also tone it down because you don't want to see your teammate get hurt either.

I play AAA hockey and let me just say at my age we have fighting and from what I could tell by watching NHL and seeing it just from my experiences fighting should definitely be part of the game! If a player and another player have beef and are not allowed to fight on the ice what will that cause? It will cause one of the two to start cheapshotting slashing and possibly even worse! Fighting let's the two get rid of the beef in a span ofsbout 10-15 seconds and than they're good. If they were not allowed to fight they'd be holding so much vengefulness back that soon enough someone is gonna get dirty and someone is gonna get hurt and possibly career ended
