- That Coast region has not been able to produce enough food for its sustainability has been a debate for decades with no proper solution on what should be exactly done to avert the situation. With good coastal and fertile land dotted with traditional crops like the coconut and cashew trees, the region is still more dependent on other regions for food. In this episode, Engineer Dismas Chivatsi pours his heart out on why the region has remained food insufficient and the possible reasons leading to the sorry state of affairs We sat with him in Kilifi after visiting his farm situated at Fumbini village in the outskirts of Kilifi town. Here is his interview.
Uncle D - thank you for the insight and we need to have a conversation to start from co-operatives ( we come together and combine forces )within the areas with any of the agribusiness opportunities to grow. You are right its historical but then the current administration is still propagating it - Unga politics (11:40 says it all)....
Very educative, our people need education on agriculture, life has changed, it's time to grow our own food. The soil is good, it rains always. Education is key.
Free food is not right, where are the agriculture officers who taught people, teaching our people will be the best.
Definitely a good advice. I was really touched by this message when I did this interview. We need to make good use of our arable land to agriculture instead of selling land for commercial development.
