Katherine Dee, writer and internet historian, sits down with Bridget to discuss the strange corners of the internet she's explored and how she manages to predict coming trends in our culture. They talk about internet culture & internet history, whether you can really tell who someone is via Twitter, drunk Tweeting, the definition of a lolcow, feedback loops, the coming wave of sexual negativity, and how we don’t truly appreciate how much AI might change things. They also cover the coming trend of middle and upper class women having babies younger and staying closer to home, how Twitter changed both of their lives, addicts who test their drugs for fentanyl, the real-life fallout of cancel culture, trying to pivot out of the culture war, trends on their way out, and why Katherine thinks the most disturbing thing she sees online is people’s isolation, alienation, and loneliness. Walk-Ins Welcome with Bridget Phetasy - Podcast
Bridget Phetasy admires grit and authenticity. On Walk-Ins Welcome, she talks about the beautiful failures and frightening successes of her own life and the lives of her guests. She doesn’t conduct interviews-she has conversations. Conversations with real people about the real struggle and will remind you that we can laugh in pain and cry in joy but there’s no greater mistake than hiding from it all. By embracing it all, and celebrating it with the stories she’ll bring listeners, she believes that our lowest moments can be the building blocks for our eventual fulfillment.

Good show. Regarding your lack of growth: Have you all tried buying ads on youtube? Might help.

Relate idea of persona to computers. Peronsa is an algorithm or program running in an operating system on hardware.
So persona is a program running on the base personality on the hardware on the nervous system the cpu and gpu are the brain.

UA-cam and ticktok are just the hot new TV networks and now TV is also a phone and computer so everyone can get ahold of you 24/7 in virtual space to talk about your favorite show.
You have some good shows. I might even subscribe for money one day

I'm a mechanic and my daughter works in a kitchen.
I thought mechanics were crude and offensive, my daughter could hold her own in any shop.

I don't think the Red Scare ladies are having a "mainstream moment" because I don't think anyone in this ecosystem needs that moment anymore.

Maybe Twitter unverifying is a side-effect of Elon charging for the check. If the bill isn't paid, the system would auto-disable the check. Makes sense to me. Still an injustice toward a dead person though! But it's 3 months since this broadcast now, I'm sure it's either fixed or soon to be, some solution is out there.

I never got the impression that Alex Jones is performing or employing a persona.
If anything, a lot of the time he lets himself get all worked up into a manic frenzy, a natural part of his personality I’d say. If he lets the rant keep going (as he often does) I can see how this can be perceived by some as being a performance. But I have Asperger’s myself (and strongly suspect Alex does too) so I understand better than most that some “rants”represent mania, while some are an autistic “special interest” coming to the fore.
My take is that his “persona” is organic, not an act per se. After all, we all wear masks.

Take the critic. I didnt like the format of this interview. Too long. You dont actually accompany the interview with interesting questions, so few questions ("what is you biggest flaw"??? Really? Is this a valid question? Who cares!). Especially at the beginning, it makes it boring.. also, you talk too much, the video is about her, we are not interested if you are or are not on tiktok, at a point it looks like a chat with her and it is not very informative. What about her predictions? I had to move up and down the 2 hours to find something interesting to listen...
