Most of the time when you are buying plated silver items it’s usually a thin layer of silver plated over a cheaper metal such as brass or alloy. Over time the plating will wear off revealing the metal underneath. When buying sterling silver always makes sure that the items are not just plated if your looking for an authentic sterling silver ring. Some sellers will claim their rings to be sterling silver when it’s not. Always do your research before buying. In this case the ring I purchased from Aliexpress claimed to be a full silver ring.
If the price is too good to be true, most likely the ring is not silver throughout.

Rightttt. It’s so weird. I also shipped some high quality earrings from the UK to Uganda which cost quite a sum. The seller claimed they were the best for sensitive people but the things itched like nothing and my ears got swollen every time I wore them. Yet AliExpress earrings do not even pretend to itch. I’m honestly hooked.
I buy mine from there, specifically stainless steel stuff. It's some of the only jewelry I can wear. I currently have on a stainless steel wrist cuff that I've worn for about 3 years without taking off, and zero reaction. It's solid stainless steel, really good quality, and only cost me about $10 including shipping.
Me too i had a leather watch which had a metal dial .and i got really bad hives. So I thought I was allergic to leather . Turns out it's a metal allergy i can only weat gold silver platinum and stuff

As a sterling girl, I find there’s a time and place for both costume jewellery and real jewellery. I prefer plain everyday pieces (like my plain band rings, and rings with small stones that could suit most outfits and my plain sterling chain necklace) to be sterling because they make anything you wear look more put together.
But huge stones and intricate details are out of reach for most of the population so most of my statement jewellery is costume jewellery.
You can enjoy jewellery without going bankrupt for it.

The gorgeous “comparison”piece may have been given to her by a boyfriend in which case she didn’t “go bankrupt” purchasing it. Also the price per ounce of silver is $16.87 whereas gold is $1904 per ounce. So hardly bankrupt. She could have purchased it herself, searched out a reputable dealer for loose diamonds and had a ring made. You can also get a “lab made” diamond for $389/.51 carat radiant cut stone. And of course there’s always a cubic zirconia. So again, not necessarily breaking the bank but that depends on your definition. What one person might consider breaking the bank is a tolerable amount to someone else!

That’s still insanely out of reach for most people, even if it isn’t outrageously expensive.
Goldsmith here, the instructions on that testing solutions are as follows 90-100% silver turns a creamy color; 77-90% silver shows a gray color; 65-76% silver shows a light green. Meaning I'm confused what the heck of metal you used that the solution is NOT reacting with your silver. It should react since it is a solutions to test for silver. MEANING it should be able to show you what it is.
The puddle of liquid solution was much larger and mostly grey with little flecks of a darker color by the end, so I'm guessing that the Santorini _did_ have an effect? Unless it wasn't silver at all? So either she lied, or she lied? 🤷🏽♀️ idk
EDIT: she doesn't really hit the Santorini with the solution; maybe _one_ drop hits it, at most. Either way, you bring up an excellent point 🤔

In the video you can see that she uses nitric acid (HNO3) to test the rings. This is mostly unreactive with silver, unless the acid is heated and at a high concentration. To test these rings, ideally, she would have scratched both ring's 'silver'; the cheaper ring if made of a cheaper more reactive metal (in this case it looks like copper at the end, and the solution did turn blue, which looks like copper nitrate (CuNO3)), then this metal would have reacted with the solution and eventually 'dissolve', or erode away, leaving no scratch. As true silver is unreactive, the scratch would remain.

True. Nitric acid and copper does form cupric nitrate and would react like you say on the cheaper ring.
@@rageshk7828 I feel like you’re mistaking nitric for sulphuric. Silver is generally non reactive, yes, but nitric acid is one of the most notorious compounds that it will react with, irregardless of strength or temperature.

I always opt for stainless steel. It is cheap, doesn't make my skin green and i personally cannot tell the difference in colour. Luckily aliexpress has a ton of stainless steel jewellery

I'm a stainless steel wearer myself. I only have 2 gold rings and one white gold. The rest are stainless steel everything, necklace, earrings, bracelets, foot bracelets and I tend to get compliments for some.

just so y’all know target is now carrying real sterling silver jewelry.. i bought a pair of earrings marketed as sterling silver over 6 months ago and they still look like new. they haven’t tarnished or anything, i wear them 24/7, even in the shower. i just clean them every couple weeks with mild soap and water and leave them to dry

It’s just a really thickly plated silver with a clear coating like nail polish over that and you can’t tell because it’s earrings and not a ring or necklace so it’s not rubbing against you as much as the other items would.

i had so much fake jewlerly but when i turned around 16 it started irritating my skin because i got some kind of allergy from it and had to get rid of it all
100%! Even some sterling silver stuff irritates me so I have to go with gold if they are earrings that I'll have in for longer than a few hours.

A pure silver ring isn't 100% silver ring or else it won't stay in its shape. So, that liquid will affect that claimed to be pure silver ring a bit too.
Same thing with gold. Real 24k gold is very malleable.

Two things that really help, a clear nail polish around the band or clear spray paint sealant coat.
Edit: you do not have to follow this advice.
This really triggered someone and they’re screaming in all capitals that it’s a bad idea, so do or do not paint your rings with clear nail polish. I **genuinely** do not care, I do it when I first get a cheap ring, my family members did it in the 60s, 80s and 90s.

We constantly put pigment and other chemicals on our skin. A small amount of dried paint without pigment is not going to be a big deal unless you have extremely sensitive skin and you react to everything including soap.

Having a metal allergy taught me to read closely. A lot of jewelry that claims to be real silver, but then they’ll state in the fine print that it’s silver _plated_ . They can get away with saying real silver simply because they have a very thin layer of real silver on the outside, which eventually wares off and those of us with allergies will then get a bad reaction from it. 🙈
You are supposed to scratch the metal before using any solutions like this one. And you can clearly see the second ring was also starting to react with the solution. If it had been left in there longer, both rings would have looked pretty similar. So I’m assuming your rings are silver plate at best. Which is very different from a full silver ring.

Nah, it's tar from the other ring on the left. The bubbling and foaming moved the solution all over the plate and so the tar from left ring was pushed to the rim of the plate and to the uneffected ring, where it settled down.

I only bought a silver ring from Aliexpress just to test it out. Its been 2 years and I'm still wearing it every day, it looks brand new. So you need to know where to buy it and definitely read the reviews.

real sterling silver means its really 92.5% silver. that's what sterling silver is. anyone who's into jewelery knows that jewelry isn't made of pure silver, it's almost always 92.5% if it's labeled silver.

Otherwise you bang your hand against whatever and your stone is gone and prongs dented in and a huge dip on it.

I think the Aliexpress ring is prettier, that said I would probably buy it and get a authentic replica made by my jeweler with minor adjustments to boost the quality. I don’t want a huge stone to cheapen the look further more, it doesn’t suit everyone especially not me.
It totally depends on your beauty type, I don't look good in big expensive jewellery. I don't have a very pretty or sexy face, my fingers are short and chubby. I look good in more comfy style.
To anyone who has a cheap ring they want to keep wearing, I’d recommend a layer of clear nail polish over the band. I have used that on a few of my rings and it really extended their life and got rid of the cursed green band

I have several AliExpress rings. My last ones were silver plated, but it came off after a week and now I have green line on my finger, because body oil oxidized the copper in ring. Its not permanent, it doesn't cause any problems to me, but if you're allergic to copper you might reconsider buying rings from AE.
BTW I love my green staining ring. And I've had true silver rings, they can leave a black line on your skin because of a reaction between silver and sulfur

I was being silver jewelry from the same Etsy store for a couple of years. I loved it, had no complaints. A few days back I came across a store on Ali that sells that same jewelry.... Bamboozled. Truth is Ali makes different versions of the same jewelry for every budget. You can buy real silver and real gemstones, but they are going to be more expensive $25-50 range. My guess is both rings are from Ali. Usually the ring that she claims to be of better quality go for around $30. That's still a 25 dollar profit that she's making.

I had a necklace I loved bc it reminded me of my mom. I wore it often, and didn't take it off while doing yard work. I think the light perspiration sped up the process.
One day, when the cheap coating wore off the back just enough, it started to burn my skin. It literally started burning a wound into my skin, and I couldn't wear it anymore at all. It took days to heal and not hurt.
Yes, I considered coating the back. But it just kind of made me feel differently about not caring what metal I wore.
Also, my ears never reacted to silver earrings, but some of those cheap ones are fine, and some inflame and irritate my ears quickly.

Sterling silver isn’t costume jewelry that’s why it’s more expensive 😂 you’re not paying for the fake diamond you’re paying for sterling silver 🙄 obviously if you want a real diamond go spend 2000 on a genuine diamond ring. Plus sterling silver doesn’t turn you green or tarnish, so you don’t HAVE to wear it twice and then throw it out and buy another one just to wear it again for a week at most and have to throw it out.

Your ring prices are in no way “too expensive.” Some people may not be able to afford them, but that doesn’t mean you should have to cut your cost or quality. If someone says they can get it cheaper somewhere else, then they can do that and have the rings turn their fingers green. There are also rings that can be bought from other places (that are sterling silver) and they cost $100+ while looking similar to some of your rings. If anything, I say that your prices are much more affordable for such beautiful jewelry.

As someone who works with body jewelry, this is a really frustrating idea that people have. I definitely don’t work for the highest quality body jewelry distributor, but we sell a good quality of jewelry for the price. But we will still have people come in and scoff at me and even get mad at me for the price of the jewelry and say “ I can get the same piece of jewelry off of Amazon for half the price, why would I ever buy this?” It’s frustrating but my answer is always, you’re paying for the quality and you paying for the return policy.
Amazon has a 4 month return policy. You can bring your item to any Whole Foods, Kohls, or UPS store. They scan the item and you get your money back instantly. You can return any item without reason. It’s better than any store policy I’ve ever seen, so to say “you’re paying for the return policy” is a bit ridiculous.

Funny, I found an abundance amount of horrible reviews about your rings. I read over and over that the stones were falling out of their rings because the prongs were not tightened properly. Also, the little stones that were placed around the band were falling out. When the customer's contacted you about the issue, it was crickets on your end. No response whatsoever. You refused to replace their rings nor offered an exchange much less, helping these people fix a product that you made. Piss poor customer service, and I definitely will not buy from your company. I hope others are actually reading reviews about your product like I just did! Everyone, please do your research before buying anything that you see advertised on the internet. It may look beautiful, but as the old saying goes.... TRUST NO ONE. Especially these cons from the internet .

We actually respond to all emails on a daily basis. And help each customer resolve their issues as quickly as possible. We have a 30 day warranty and extended warranty is available as well. Stones can fall from any type of jewelry. Even diamond rings. Prong settings are tiny and snagging your ring or build up from lotions, oils, dirt and debris can also loosen the prongs. Cleaning is definitely recommend especially if you are wearing the item on a daily basis. Each and every person cares for their jewelry differently. It’s your choice on what business you want to support or purchase from. We are a small business and always working to improve our quality. Not everyone will always be satisfied. There will always be good and bad reviews for any and every product. So to judge my entire collection based off of a few bad reviews is a little unfair. If the stone is a fake diamond and it is of some size, (a carat or larger) The first tell and easiest sign is the number of prongs on the stone. Anyone with a stone of some size will want extra prongs because it is expensive.

I have a metal allergy, so other than the gold I grew up with others hurt me including “sterling silver” stuff….
I also have severe contact metal allergies. Including gold. I was recently told it's because I'm overloaded with toxic metal in my body. Detoxing that might help. I'm on my way to trying a more constant heavy metal detox than I've done in the past. 🤞🙏

Honestly I don't care, imma still order from aliexpress. I've gotten about 7 pieces of jewelry from aliexpress but it hasn't tarnish yet. I wear it everyday besides my bracelet and none of them turned green. I guess you just have to know what to look for.

I highly doubt aliexpress “stole” their designs. That’s a very basic ring design I see all over, not just on costume jewelry sites. I’ve even seen real gold and diamonds in it.
