In the video it says that the music was born in Loiza, that's new to me. But from what I know there are different regions that claim the origin another region is Ponce as well as Mayaguez. It is not really concrete that it was born in Loiza plus there are different variations if the same rhythm in the different regions but with the same name. Some regions play it faster or slower. Etc...

I also like to offer a couple of friendly advices in terms of research for your show. 1) Bomba is a completely different genre than Plena. There is no such thing as "Bomba y Plena" unless you mean to enumerate them in a sentence. 2) Always look for (MULTIPLE UNRELATED SOURCES OF INFORMATION). William Cepeda IS NOT a Bomba practitioner; he is a Puerto Rican Jazzist/trombonist ARTIST who took great interest in Bomba and also Plena and has exploited these genres taking advantage of the fact that he has the same last name as the true CEPEDA FAMILY Bomba & Plena clan. The Cepeda Bomba and Plena family from Santurce have no genealogical/ancestry relation with Williams Cepeda's family from Loiza. note: William Cepeda's family are also NOT Bomba and/or Plena practitioners and Tata Cepeda and William have no family connection. RECOMMENDATION: Look very closely into the difference between an ARTIST and a PRACTITIONER of the genre you want to showcase or learn. Next time you visit Puerto Rico you should get a Bomba and/or Plena private workshop with true PRACTITIONERS of these genres and not and ARTIST e.g. Elder Jorge Emmanuelli Náter from Hermanos Emmanuelli Náter Bomba and Plena clan or the Hermanos Ayala from Loiza, or Modesto Cepeda from the real Bomba and Plena Cepeda Family... Modesto is the uncle of Tata. Anyway... thanks again for the video. Even though is a little bit misleading in terms of information ACCURACY and AUTHENTICITY, it promotes our true Puerto Rican culture. THANKS!
hey MM this is a beautiful video. i'm glad you got Tata, one of the foremost exponents of the Santurce dance style. however, you made a common, but HUGE mistake. the genre that you covered was BOMBA - distinct from PLENA. plena has frame drums that are played with one hand, there's really only ONE rhythm with some variations, the dance is super simple & the magic (in many ways) is in the way the singer can freestyle melodies with relevant & up-to-date lyrics (it's a lot like early calypso in THAT way). there are a couple of hybrid styles, but that isn't what you showed here. this is Santurce & Loiza style BOMBA (& wonderfully so).

My daughter took bomba class with Tata Cepeda when we lived in Santurce. It was a good experience but I couldn't keep up with the monthly payments and we stopped going. Really regret that cuz the music and dance connect you to your island, identity, and heritage. Nobody can take that away.......although I know many Puerto Ricans empty of this. Don't speak Spanish, never been to the island don't care to. They are victims, they have been robbed of their culture.
Personally I would be scared to go to PR now with the constant earthquakes occurring. Believe me you don't want to be in PR when it happens. I was in 2010 living in Condado furniture swaying back and forth. And the aftershock. I pray that GOD protects my beautiful island that I miss and ❤🇵🇷
Bomba is where everything starts! It's the MOTHER OF ALL MUSIC OF PUERTO RICO!!! And it deserves even more recognition than what it's been given after all these years... But we all know anything BLACK (African) will always come last.... Smh!!!
