inFAMOUS 2 is a very disappointing sequel that failed in its utilisation of its expansion of the combat that the 1st game set its own foundation in its utilisation that was better than inFAMOUS 2... the story of the 2nd game is a very lackluster one... just reply 'how' the story is very lackluster and I'll elaborate but 1st, I'll just elaborate further on the combat system part.
inFAMOUS 2 has more different abilities, that doesn't mean that the combat system in concept for its execution would be as good as the 1st game.... ill give you ONE example on 'why' that is... inFAMOUS 1 had a roll that you could fully utilise in your advantage at whichever direction and the 2nd game does have that but what the 2nd game doesn't have and was completely removed was that inFAMOUS 1 let you use any abilities, even your standard bolts while dodging or rolling... this took an incentive to get better at the game while fighting different groups of enemies while simultaneously using your standard shot as well as different powers while dodging elsewell to get in different positions/angles against enemies as well as being able to go into cover in admist of that... you could also dodge while in cover and cole can still use different abilities and has a unique standard bolt animation based on dodging while in cover mode and pressing R1 as soon as you dodge... its also about 'timing' that makes you master this move... inFAMOUS 2 on the other hand... COMPLETELY removed this aspect to master the hidden depths of the base lined combat that the 1st game set out to do... now onto the abilities itself in the 1st game compared to the 2nd game... the 1st game had a simple structure of its powers but progression based on your karma levels is what made the powers look and play differently with how you played... take the standard bolt for example... there's different ways of play style for its beginning of the standard bolt to incentivise players to take down enemies faster but 'how' it functions is different based on your karmic ranking and that goes to each power based off of firing an ability out of your hands... in the good karma, the 1st level of the standard bolt requires you to successfully hit an enemy to get a moderate amount of energy back and then the 2nd progressive form of the ability, makes you use head shots to chain electricity against enemies that are close to the enemy you've successfully hit then the last one increases your energy by successfully hitting an enemy and head shots makes you restore health... in the evil karma, the 1st upgrade makes you so that there's a chance that an explosion occurs before an enemy is about to die but what the game doesn't tell is that you've got to prioritise headshots more for killing the enemy faster as well as causing a headshock explosion that creates more destruction to the environment such as innocent ppl in the way as well as surrounding enemies... they both function the same on a basis level but its how the use of the function priorises how you play in its progression which goes to other powers elsewell... the megawatt hammer in the good karma level, you can REDIRECT a ROCKET based on pressing R1 to anywhere and to any enemy and you can even use precision bolt to redirect it to an enemy then the 2nd upgrade has the same exact good karmad level 1 shockwave where it leaves enemies floating in the air but what helps with that is you can use the shockwave and then use the Megawatt to make them more afloat in the air and increase the height to which they're in the air while redirecting rockets as well.... The Evil version is simpler but effective with having smaller parts of the rocket inside the core to attach to enemies which those smaller rockets increases the explosion as you progress its power... the Grenades function way differently between the karma levels... i think you get the picture with inFAMOUS 1 while inFAMOUS while great in concept for what they had for combat... its execution is quite lackluster... its like Sucker Punch decided to bring in MORE for the sake of MORE and try to be different but almost ALL basically function the same way even in its usage and it's more of a visual change than an ability that's different to how you use it to function or function differently... there are only some that function differently enough is Nix's shockwave and vice versa for the good karma... the good regular karmad powers are just reused from the 1st game but without the progression aspect that makes it different enough to how you make it function as well as functioning differently with the power itself... the misc abilities are the only good thing that does do something different with how you function the power and how the powerr functions entirely differently... the only good ionic abilities are the ionic drain and the ionic freeze... ionic vortex is a watered down version to how the 1st games ionic storm worked wouldve been above mediocre only if it actually did damage to any bosses expect for the scripted Bertrand one and don't even talk about the ionic storm especially compared to the 1st game, the ionic storm worked so well because you can extend the storm with how much you energy you had as well as using the karma overload which makes it amazing and you you have to move the controller itself to move the storm to whichever direction you want it to go to and the storm actually damages all enemies including bosses... even the sheer impact and sound of the ionic storm in inFAMOUS 2 is lacking... the sound design in general is pretty weird and inconsistent especially its ambience but to get back on the powers of the 2nd game.... there was this one power that i used all game which was the detonater blast where you can jump up from its kinetic energy up into the air and use it and edges of buildings etc. something like that should've been the entire combat system in concept with how different it is and how it introduces something NEW and expanded upon the 1st game although theres already 2 extra jump boost abilities and the good karma ice jump basically functions the same way in its usage as a power to the detonater blast which is underwhelming... the only actual improvement was the traversal although i have no idea why Sucker Punch removed the vertical railings in the final game compared to the demo where Cole had the Nathan Drake hair but the traversal is a legit improvement over the 1st game
@gnonlinegaming Don't get me wrong. I loved playing the game but eventually the story was like soggy cereal. I just didn't care for Desmond's story after a while. Plus his powers are lame compared to Cole's. Cole's got a dope set of electric and ice powers that are utilized in different ways. Desmond just lacked the creativity. Not to mention the first two games seem to have better level design. Also, dafuq is "video" powers. God, that's cringe.

1 is the best in my opinion. The story is the most solid, a recently destroyed city is an amazing setting along with the gangs that actively fight each other on the streets. The parkour is slow and a bit jank but it makes you actually pay attention to where you're going and what you're doing, rather than just "hold O down to climb"
I think the major problem with Second Son was that there wasn't enough time. Did anyone else feel like it was a bit rushed towards the end? I'm not saying we need a 40+ hour game, but I feel like we could've fleshed out some more. Maybe even had time with Hank to learn better moves with smoke. Idk I feel like something was missing from the third act onward.
