I'm so very sorry to hear about the abuse you've had to endure. My only gripe is that you were not playing for Ireland! Thanks for all the magic moments of rugby. May God bless you and your family and many happy years in beautiful Scotland.
From an SA supporter, great interview but for all of us who love ‘rugby’ & all it means in so many ways to so many, a very sad story about a hugely talented larger than life character of the game
Yeah not a nice story to hear about a very talented player. He could do everything at his peak and was probably the best full back in the world in 2027 but over the last few years has certainly declined. Looks to have put too much weight on which is probably due to his injuries. Could easily play at mid premiership level for a few more years earning £100-150k a year so obviously he has lost his passion for the game. I did not enjoy that interview but wish him the best in his future endeavours. I think he will end up being a pundit in a few years once he sorts his head out.
Brilliantly honest Hoggy. Loved the uncomplicated honesty of all you have said. I see this is 6 months old, hope someone has snapped you up and you are working hard out of the rugby world. You will be an asset anywhere. Thank you for all you have done for rugby, for Scottish rugby. I have loads of quality memories thanks to you!
In regards to his injuries, A lot can be said for Excessive weight lifting. There is a lot of research on this and proof, it seems to be reoccurring problem for players who aren't naturally bulky but smash the gym to pack on size...Think Sam Warburton, George North. It's obvious that Hogg spends a lot of time in the Gym, When playing at 15 he really doesn't need to be like that...most of the best fullbacks you can think of weren't big and bulky...but fast dynamic and tactically adept. I remember Shane Williams came out and said that he stopped lifting weights and concentrated most of his fitness on Sprints and running, because when he was lifting he slowed and got injured way more....he then went on to become the best winger in the world. Hogg should do the same, he really doesn't need to be as big as he is and from what I remember his best years were early on when he was smaller and faster
Why read it , I see social media as a misnomer and should more accurately seen as a sickness of the society it came from . So sorry the sport is losing a man respected by all real rugby fans.Good luck to you.
Its a sad world isn´t it. Your a good man Hogg, Scotland just won´t be the same. Reminds me of Jacinda who stepped down as NZ prime minister due to abuse and such....
Happy for you, Mr. Hogg. I think it good plan to either ease yourself out of the world you've loved for such a long time, OR stay involved as a non-player, such as a coach or ref? You won't be able to take the rugby out of you because you're a Pillar in the game. God bless, Stuart.
The online abuse plays a big part into his retirement imagine if people kept there mouths quiet everything could have been different people in this world are evil amazing player good luck with retirement 💔
It sounds to me that Hogg's body and injuries were the main reason for retirement and social media did not help? But if social media was so toxic why then do a video on YT? If you speak about things on social media you will put yourself in the public forum for others to wade in: Some of those will be wind-up merchants and worse. I'm not sympathetic at all to Hogg's social media story even if it was abusive but I am sympathetic about his injuries: He played so many great games and it's caught up with him. Good news if his body is not in too much trouble there's plenty of life after sport to enjoy and he seems like a happy bloke who'll do so. But I wonder if this is the end of his social media presence or the start...
It’s a shame to hear he has lost his passion for the game. He is no where near the player he was but could easily play premiership level or equivalent for a few more years earning good money so his body must be completely broken down.
I get the family first thing but isn’t earning a good career part of providing for the family and his next job he won’t be earning anywhere near the money he could earn for another 3/4 years perhaps 5 years
@@Shandyboy8612 Yeah sounds like a smart move because he wants to keep his body going for longer and he's hit the wall with injuries. He'll have earnt enough and there's so much more to life after sport too. He's a good guy and will find a way so no worries.
WTF is actually wrong with people? I can't even fathom the idea of sending any player a personal abusive message. Absolute losers.
True. You can't play Rugby if you're a sissy.

Yeah. I second that. Much strength✌🇿🇦

Good an y’a, Hoggy. No one should have to put up with online abuse from ignorant wankers who think they understand our wonderful game.
Stuart Hogg .totally world class player and great guy ..enjoy retirement ..sorry to hear about appalling abuse..Best of luck
This is so sad, he is a top player and seems an even better bloke
Top bloke.. well played Hoggie.. best wishes for your next chapter..👌🏽👌🏽
Best insult to give anyone is to ignore them
As Nietzsche says, he´d only go to war against someone he respects and admires...

3 minutes into this video wtf is wrong with people

What kind of a POS takes it to the level of trying to message a player nevermind their spouse? Some absolute low lives out there.
I am really sorry for the abuse you received just seems nasty and unwarrented Best of luck for the future.
Legend of Scottish rugby
Is he retiring after the World Cup or before?
He’s talking shitteee hahahahah
Wow this interview didn't age very well for Stuart🙄
Top man top player

Physiological abuse is harder to heal from than physical. Be smarter dude
So hundreds of guys start messaging your wife to abuse you, and you´re somehow supposed to go on like its not happening? It got my sympathy...
