Great player, great leader, always gave everything in each game. But what a humble and well spoken young man he is. Wales will miss him massively. Diolch am bopeth. Shame not so many footballers come across like this.
Very clean player and that's very rare for a flanker, almost no cards during his career, very good at slowing down the ruck, and actually pretty decent handling, specially for a forward, excellent player, even better captain specially the way he talked to the referees, all taken into account he's probably top 10 maybe top 5 best forwards in the islands in the professional era of Rugby.
Great player but we have at least a couple of players in front of him now with the likes of James davis Joshua navidi thomas young and finally arron wainright and Ellis Jenkins and justin tipuric we are blessed!
I think he had 2 cards in his entire international career. As a flanker that is a silly number, and one of them was the infamous red card offence. It's weird that when it happened no one thought it was red, looking at it now given the changes in the past decade it's red all day long.
Just think what he could have achieved as a player if he was still playing. Not to mention if he joined one of the Euro giants as well. Though I personally found the negativity and xenophobia around the 2017 Lions tour very tedious, I kind of stopped passionately following rugby myself around the same time.
25 games per annum come on man, lower leauges will play 30+, oh your igger and take bigger hits. og off a 13 stone blocke hitting a 13 st bloke does the same damage to each other as 2 18 stone guys. Played every season, every saturday from 1972 - 2010
Sarah Elgan has been a presenter for S4C Welsh language ,BBC Wales and BT.Her father Elgan Rees played for Neath and Wales. Her husband played no 7 for Llanelli, Ireland and is now Ireland's forwards coach. She is rugby through and through RESPECT
Good player ...good leader..I always liked him as an Irish fan...He always carried himself with class

As an Englishman I agree, great guy and player
Always enjoyed watching Sam play. A true leader. Respect from NZ.
Class act on and off the pitch.
Classy man. Hope he does well. I think he well. Tough mentally and physically
Great player, such a shame he was injured so much. I remember him at the RWC 2011 and I thought he was going to become the best player in the world
Also I'm going to add that he shows that there's more important things in life than the game. He's looking at his long term future.
Absolute gentlemen. Great role model

One of the smartest flankers to play the game. His knowledge of the ruck was better than anyone else’s
Well played Sam. Enjoy your life.
Best Welsh 7 ever and in the world best welsh and lions captain ever. Wales are still missing him big time. Great guy to. Wish he was still playing xx
Top man Sam, good luck for the future. Did more than your bit for Wales and the Lions. And for Rugby.
Good luck Sam. A great tenacious rugby player.

Cardiff legend!
Always remember his red card against France in the 2011 World Cup. Never a red card and ruined what would have been a great game.
Even so he said himself it was a red card after watching the action back on the big screen?
I'm still struggling to get over that world cup ......🤪
A great bloke.
What was Austin healey laughing about throughout the interview
STACEY ELLIS he’s a spiteful little imp
Never at the same level as a respected person and player as Sam
