  • Constipation is one of the most common digestive problems in the world, affecting more than 2.5 million people every year in the united states alone. Most people think constipation means not having frequent enough bowel movements. In reality, constipation is more complicated and more subtle than that, with a range of symptoms that you may not always recognize.

I suffered from constipation and incomplete bowel movement for such a long time and I had the worst hemorrhoids ever. I literally was abusing laxatives and suppositories every day but I decided something has to change. HERE IS WHAT WORKED FOR ME. Everymorning I do 10 000 steps then I have a huge cup of warm water with ginger and garlic ( cut in pieces and swallowed) I don't eat anything till after 2 pm ( intermittent fasting) and every evening I put Vaseline down there so that I can have easier bowel movement in the morning. My diet has changed too just less sugar no fast food and only water and black tea with lemon. It's all about the gut it's about retraining and being kind to your gut. I haven't taken laxatives or any medication for the past 6 months now. Now every evening I apply Vaseline around the anus and the whole night if I wake up I drink water. The next day I pass the stool easily and my hemorrhoids are way less painful. Hope this can help someone

A considerable proportion of people can achieve a regular bowel movement by just doing an asian squat or even just by trying to asian squat. Of course eat plenty of fibre, drink plenty of water (but not too much) and see a doctor if symptoms persist. And please let others know this info as only a small proportion of people know about the asian squat's benefits in releaving constipation. Also, eat prunes.

And guys, if it hurts coming out. Just poo, it’s gonna hurt worse if you hold it for longer!!! I had very bad constipation and after my first 2 experiences and the pain I had, the next time I got constipated I ended up waiting 3 months, yes, 3 MONTHS I was terrified of the pain I went through and it was a very unpleasant experience for me and both me and my mom, she just wanted me to poo because the doctor said my colon could burst really soon so I NEED to go poo! Otherwise, I’ll be transported to the ER, and that really scared me even more but my stomach was killing me, it just felt like my butthole was cramping really bad and the poo was forcing itself out and it just hurt so bad, my mom was gonna give me an enema but I definitely didn’t want that as a 12 year old, I ended up crying and squirming so much my mom got really angry and said she’s gonna be back in a bit and when she’s back I’m GONNA take the enema. And I was just crying because of how much this stressed me and her out, a few minutes later I felt like I had to poo (even tho I didn’t take the enema) and because I felt bad for stressing out my mom I said “this is the end” and I ran to the toilet and I started screaming for my mom “IM GONNA POO HELPPP” and because of how long I waited, everything just exploded like I couldn’t control my butt, and after I was done pooping everything I took a shower and it was so bad I was shaking and everything I was feeling better but it was the worst, and one of the experiences before, my poo was rock hard and about the size of a baby’s head and I’m not exaggerating this.
Some wise words I have for you, poo as soon as you can because it’s only getting worse. Sometimes it’s gonna hurt but you have to get through that because the longer, the harder.

After reading your story, I immediately went to the bathroom to do what had to be done. "it’s only getting worse" if you don't do it now, was what gave me the courage and determination to get the job done. It's bad enough now, I don't want to wait and see how worse it can get. The whole process was painful, but not as bad as I thought. Thanks for the wise words.

The most important & simple tips to treat constipation are
    1. Use sufficient dietary fibre in your meals
    2. Chew your food properly, making it a fine slurry in mouth with your sliva.
    3. Exercise or stay active throughout day
    4. Avoid salt or minimise it(very important) which otherwise dehydrates your body. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking water frequently through the day.
    5. Make habbit of going early morning at fixed time to pass stool.
    6. Do not drink water immediately after a meal, give a gap of at least 40 min and it is very effective.

@@timkirp6575 - always salt your food with sea-salt, or salt with minerals (celtic, sea, pink himalayan etc).
--- always make sure your gut acid is plentiful. i dont know how to do that but just make sure you eat sea-salt with every meal or take 6th of tspn once a day. Good to have= warm butter, ghee butter (buyteric-acid).

You can use all of them or even one, sea-salts the easiest one to get.
Enzymes from fruits, veggys or raw foods in general, these things have high amounts of enzymes, especially pineapple, ginger and pappaya. if you cannot get them than try the supplements like papaya enzymes, pancreatin, bromelain, serrapeptase, etc. and eat them after or before a meal.
if you're taking pharmaceuticals that cause constipation(no saliva production in mouth, throat, stomach, intestines etc), make sure to time your dose, take the enzymes or salt 10 minutes after your meds kick in, anytime before that your supplements are wasted in trying to get the saliva back on, you must take them after your meds kick in especially anti-depressants, anti-biotics and opiates. Once saliva production is up and running, your intestines will have the saliva flowing through again which makes digestion normal again.

I’ve had constipation for many years. Things that helped me when my ass was bleeding and I still had constipation:
    1. Put Vaseline around your anus (I know it’s disgusting but it really helps, believe me!)
    2. Let it come a little bit, Then push hard, when you start to feel it coming, close your anus and push at the same time. Idk why this helps but it does with the pain.
    3. Pray to God because nothing else is going to save you.
I’m always scared as hell for the pain and sometimes I avoid going to the toilet. When my anus is cracked I normally wait 1 day to go to the toilet because of how sore my anus is. Don’t wait too long tho because it can get worse.

NO FAIR. As someone who hasn't gone in 2 weeks over 80% of chronic constipation isn't due to water, fiber, retraining. It's due to muscle issues. Bio feed back and all these do not work. It's a constant on going trying something new.

Have you heard of Pajala porridge? A carer in a retirent home for elderly in Pajala, Sweden invented this porridge as a substitute for laxatives and medications. It is made (for one person) of 1 dl of oats or mixed grits, 3 prunes, 3 dried apricots, 1 tsp of wheat bran. a little salt according to taste, and 2 dl of water. Cut the prunes and apricots in small pieces, mix it all and cook it for some minutes, or heat it in a microwave oven. Eat this porridge with milk for breakfast every day and you never will suffer of constipation.

My regular is 2 weeks, if I'm lucky which I'm not. I'm up to 3-4 weeks and even a little over a month. GI specialists, 7 colorectal surgeons, and a nationally renound motility expert at Northwestern University Hospital which has a designated motility center...none have done jack shit. I've been hereditarily (mom's side) constipated since age 7 when my norm was 5-7 days. I got sick at just age 15 with now 17 ongoing years of 20 extremely rare complex incurable and intractable chronic pain diseases and health problems that span over a dozen fields that th most famous, top ranked hospitals all over the country/world-wide can't help. Surgery isn't an option and those bags and that surgery are one of the top 2 worst surgeries to recover from and have reoccurring issues, issues that I likely already have.
I've been in-patient hospitalized for constipation starting at 2 weeks then going up to a month starting in November 2016 where I saw literally no one. Great Thanksgiving.
Just got back from 2-3 days this end of August 2022 after not going for a month, vomiting which no NEVER do since childhood and have a phobia of, was violently falling over 3x and passed out, likely from lack of nutrition since I don't eat anything but one piece of toast or 3 small scrambled eggs as I'm too scared to eat and have been like that since 2019. All 2019, I was in the ER every damn week for months on end until I was hospitalized for 5 days in Nov 2019 after not going a month and they discharged me without helping me at all. I had a mental breakdown due to the emotional, mental, and physical stresses of not only thus issue...I always get the problems that are already super complex and then add 3-7 more rare, difficult things on to why I already have...and when you have 19 more of those issues like that, suicide was my option and I wasn't going to to make it to my Golden 30th birthday. Covid documentation mixup for family member...replannimg to go in a few months nd end it all as my pain and other issues besides this huge gastroparesis/slow transit motility, literally took my entire life away. No university so no job. No more hobbies and passions like photography, domestic and international travel, no working out, no riding, no reading for fun, and any other fun activities I liked and could do. I've been mainly bedridden and housebound for 4 years. Can't work and haven't been able to work out for 5 years and counting out due to rare heart issues where my BMP shoots up to 250bpm in less than 2 minutes and this happened at my fittest or "elite athlete category" for body composition.
Of course doctors didn't want to listen that I have mild to moderate gastroparesis in 2018 and maybe getting into an impossibly difficult to schedule as there are only 3 major research university centers in the country for Neurogastroenterology...who knows if they could've even helped.
Despite my horrific pain and medical problems, I was able to horseback ride (jumping) and did that 6 days a week on top of going to the gym for more cardio, heavy weights and classes like dance (Zumba), etc and no amount of exercise...before muy heart gave out at my most fittest of 14% body fat and 98,9 lean muscle mass and no matter how much water I drank...didn't work and was still hospitalized or in the ER frequently. So when doctors say exercise and water, it's bullshit. Vacations that were full of walking 7 miles a day around Paris and adventure trips in Mexico/ the Caribbean and fully hydrated...every summer road trip in the States, domestic and international travel, I'd have to bring a huge bag of all my poop meds like Dulcolax and Milk of Magnesia, Mag Citrate and Miralax and I still couldn't go...and years before opioids.
Docs also like to blame my opioids which I need to live for my 4 excruciating, debilitating incurable and intractable chronic pain disorders. Some docs say to just get off them like they confirm how stupid they are when I saw I can't and also can't exercise...not that opiods made a difference as I was hospitalized and had all the OTC andprescription meds before I ever even took an opioid.
I've literally taken every OTC and prescription colonoscopy preps (3 kinds); OTC: a decade or more of Miralax, Milk of Magnesia, Senna, Dulcolax, Mag Citrate ns other pills; prescription meds like Linzess, Motegrity, Movantik, Trulance, Relistor, Amitiza, Relistor injections. Now regularly do OTC saline and mineral oil enemas and every hospital grade enema like coffee and soap suds. NOTHING works!!!!

I’m under constant stress and barreling periodic depression and anxiety and am stress eating a lot of simple carbs. Most of the week we eat vegetarian so I am getting good veggies including roughage but still. Oh, and I know I’m not drinking enough water. It is to the point I am constantly uncomfortable and this can’t continue! I’m getting castor oil and dried figs today and not eating any solid food until I can clear my bowels!

Scared to use Miralax and stuff because half the time ill be constipated with stuff that cant come out or TOO MUCH of stuff that can easily get out.

I have opioid constipation, which has been a huge problem. I am on a prescription laxative called Lactulose specifically for this, plus I take Miralax, but they are not nearly enough. I often get so backed up and uncomfortable that I get panicky. I have constant, loud gas. If I take too much Miralax, I have terrible cramps. Changing my diet, drinking more water has made no difference. As if my chronic pain, which has ruined my life, isn’t enough to deal with.

@@eugeneblack6073 I’ve tried a lot of things. Opioid constipation is not like regular constipation. What works for other kinds of constipation doesn’t work for it. I must be on them, so it’s a tough predicament to be in. Still searching for answers with my drs.

@@lessehead - always salt your food with sea-salt, or salt with minerals (celtic, sea, pink himalayan etc).
--- always make sure your gut acid is plentiful. i dont know how to do that but just make sure you eat sea-salt with every meal or take 6th of tspn once a day. Good to have= warm butter, ghee butter (buyteric-acid).
Vit c(ascorbic-acid). Apple-cider vinegar, betaine from beets, pepsin to break down proteins.
Digestive herbal teas(saliva production), are also great to use, you can use both or one, but the timing matters here.
Good digestive teas, fennel, bay leaf, ginger, there are lots more.
Have probiotics in the gut always, yogurt, kefir,or other fermented items are important in helping vitamins, minerals or nutrients absorb an pass.
magnesium, no more than 1500 mgs a day.
Have average amount of fiber in the diet.
grapes and prunes are great as well
cayenne+fennel/w Raw Honey, or just fennel if u have it.

@@lessehead sounds like u hav a blockage then cause it works quite well.
gl with the good doc who knows nuthing bout nutrition.
after a dosing, take your tea of fennel and cayenne and enzymes. start sipping on the tea when u notice your meds kick in and finish the tea, after it take 2 enzymes, after that save yur last papaya chewable and put under the tongue until it fully dissolves and consume.
take sea-salt with warm butter after that last enzyme.
this dont work u may be just stopped up badly or have a blockage.
Keep doing this method you'll eventually pass cause the matter will get saturated overtime eventually.
