    I’m so happy with my slotted trimmers! I don’t know how I lived without them …they are so easy to use. I think they are well worth the money!

    I also like Deb Tucker's Tucker Trimmer. Mary, I think I saw you flick away a trimmed scrap with your rotary cutter. I heard someone say that that will dull your rotary blade faster.

    I would like to try the slotted trimmer. I haven't made many HSTs but plan to in the future. I have gift certificates to use up, so hopefully my local quilt store has them. ☺️ Thank you for the great video.

    I have a hack: rather than rotating the trimmer, flip your fabric tube over (pink fabric up first, then yellow fabric up), keeping the point on the left side.

    Thank you finally a common sense video. I hate scant quarter inch! Why do we have to use scant quarter inch. We don’t we can design our own quilts and do a full quarter inch. So worth it.

    I love my Slotted Trimmer much much better than Loc Bloc. The slotted trimmer is less work. Thanks for showing the tube cutting.

    • @joyfulandmerryquilting
      @joyfulandmerryquilting  5 місяців тому +1

      It really is personal preference! I agree - it's a great tool. I do love my Bloc Loc as well - kind of like comparing apples to oranges.

    • @dianecarlson2918
      @dianecarlson2918 5 місяців тому +1

      can you explain why tou like this better than loc bloc? Is it because you only have to lay it down once?

    • @manuelashannon1369
      @manuelashannon1369 5 місяців тому

      @@dianecarlson2918 i try to work efficiently and reduces the number of long cuts, only 2 cuts and 2 short snips. Loc Bloc is 4 long cuts. Place, 2 cuts, rotate and either reposition tool (if you don’t have right size) or slide up. I open seams for HST, so I can’t take advantage of the “Loc”. I’m right handed and I place the point to the right and can make 2 long cuts and 2 snips without moving if I’m too lazy to pull out my rotating mat. Try both and decide. At a sew group day, I was able to test the Loc Bloc when I forgot my Slotted Trimmer, that made my decision. I didn’t like the cumbersome Bloc Loc

    I like the slotted trimmer, but people do need to keep in mind that the hst's will be cut on the bias when using the tube method.

    • @joyfulandmerryquilting
      @joyfulandmerryquilting  5 місяців тому

      Yes - I did mention in the video - the bias edges are my hesitation with the tube method. Thanks for watching!

  • @user-xj3le3zl1d

    I tried this slotted ruler, but apparently I don't sew straight enough. I would get wavy sides when I opened it up to iron. I went back to the regular 6 in ruler. The block lok, however was a game changer.

  • @slkendall85

    Could you cut your tube strips on the bias and end up with non-biased edges?

    • @joyfulandmerryquilting
      @joyfulandmerryquilting  7 днів тому

      I would think the "first cut" would be a little tricky since that would be a bias cut - and then I would worry about stretchiness of those two bias strips as I was sewing the two strips together. Maybe with a lot of pressing solution you could stabilize those two original strips? Let me know if you try it!

    It doesn't work perfectly every time but often enough to be useful. I don't use the slots for cutting off dog ears because it's too easy to nick the rotary cutter blade.

    When cutting on the tube just flip the tube over.
