Appreciate the video! I purchased an old Montgomery Wards front tine GIL 1585D and once I began researching, it was the first time I’ve heard of Gilson. Unfortunately mine is a bit of a Frankenstein with a Honda GC160 pressure washer engine and was missing some of the forward and reverse drive pulleys. I have back engineered it to a dual belt forward drive only. The worm drive transmission is built like a tank and I want to be sure and take care of it properly. I need to know how much SAE 140 gear oil is needed to refill the case (proper amount to use). Thanks again for this informative video as it helped my understanding of the felt seals.

I'm glad that you were able to re-power your unit and keep it in service. To check the worm drive lubricant, position the machine so the worm drive is level. Clean the front of the case and remove the small plug that is front and center. Fluid should be up to that plug hole. If it does not try to weep out, add some until it does. More information about lubricant is here: gilsonsnowblowers.com//snowtillers.html#lubricant
If you have lost fluid, you should be checking for leaks. The seals may be getting tired and you want to replace them before any real damage happens. GIL-1585D uses seal set 17926 found here: gilsonsnowblowers.com//snowtillers.html#17926
