Interesting fact about Case Closed/Detective Conan - Around the 900th episode they made it clear that only 6 months have gone by since he became a child. He has solved WELL over 300 Murder Cases mostly in the major cities in 6 months- which is more than the yearly average in all of Japan. On top of that they went from not having cell phones, to having big cell phones, to having flip phones, to having smart phones- in 6 months! I guess that happens when you have been making a series for over 20 years! Oh also if you do that math things continue to get weird seeing as he must be solving 5 of these crimes every day- but some crimes take place over multiple days or even weeks- And people think 10 year old Ash is crazy...

in murder she wrote the amount of cases she solves in one retirement town per capita would have made that sleepy little community the murder capital of America.

part of the problem is the ABSURD amount of filler episodes in the show. After the first 600 or so episodes I just gave up on watching all of them and focused only on the canon episodes. I am fine with the filler eps existing as they will do it if it makes them money and it is making them a lot of money, but I want to know that I will be able to witness a finale to the series before the writer dies.

It's not all that crazy and there's no point in trying to analyze the timeline and the number of cases being solved. The show functions on a floating timeline so I don't think we need to try and make sense out of it. It's meant to be weekly whodunit plots with minor main arc developments.

      Donald N
I get you, I really do. Seeing as I am an artist and author myself, this goes double for me. Being the latter, there is absolutely nothing for me to complain about in that regard. It’s incredibly well-written, though a bit slow at times, so worth the pay-off on the long term. The One Piece world truly has this intriguing, timeless, and ever-changing dynamic revolving around its story, plot, setting, and characters. It may not be quite as apparent from the artstyle alone, but make no mistake. If you will yourself to set that aside and look into the depth of this series, I believe that you will take joy in all the variety that it has to offer.
I’m not sure if this would work for you, but I gave it a chance, focusing only on investing myself in it and having fun throughout the journey rather than its length and overall hype. Yes, those factors were of course tucked at the back of my mind, but they were never my sole drive to continue this series. In fact, even now, I am not yet caught up and still have a big of a long way to go, but I genuinely have never come across something that has touched me in so many ways. The stories and characters within One Piece feel so inherently human, on a much deeper level than mere appearance and biological structure. It’s a phenomenal experience, and one that I highly recommend to anyone willing to get lost in a world as extricate and detailed as this one.
Certainly, however, it all goes back to you. If you still do not wish to get into the series, then it is most definitely, by any and all means, your decision. :) If you by any chance are contemplating it, then I suggest “The Appeal of One Piece: Where to Start” but Super Eyepatch Wolf, who has, well, put it a lot better than I ever could have 😅
In any case, I hope that you stay safe and take care ♥️

It's absolute horseshit that they cut the show's dub because of ratings when they had it on at 1:30 in the morning. It is one of the greatest dubs of all time and only 1/8 of the episodes and 6/24 of the movies can be experienced in that form.

Meanwhile, I, with my weeb skills of learning weird Japanese phrases just from watching Detective Conan (selfie stick is 自撮り棒!), variably get super excited when I *get* the wordplay or super annoyed because I can't think of a single way to localize it and I didn't get it either.
And sometimes the mysteries' solutions rely on information not conveyed to the audience. There was one episode in which a woman was poisoned in a bar and I was convinced the female suspect was the culprit and put the poison on the coaster, because she would be the only one to know that women cover their unattended drinks with coasters to avoid getting drugged. But nope, it was [redacted], because [backstory motive] and [convoluted explanation for weird behavior quirk].

To add to Yu Yu Hakusho, anyone who's even remotely interested in Shounen anime needs to see Yu Yu Hakusho. Even though its not as refined as HunterxHunter, i still find its main four characters to be far more compelling than those of its successor, with the exception of Killua.
On top of that, as you watch the show you'll notice how many popular Shounen series took heavy inspiration from both YYH and Togashi's work in general. For instance, Naruto's Shikamaru and Kabuto's abilities can be traced back to Kido and Dr. Kamiya in the Chapter Black arc and even Bleach's story characters are also somewhat reflective of YYH. And of course Sasuke's backstory is clearly derived from Kurapika from HxH with some minor sensibilities borrowed from Hiei as well.
Not to mention the Dark Tournament is still one of, if not the best tournament arc in shounen with only a few other arcs rivaling it to this day. And let's not forget Toguro as one of Anime's best villain. Also, the dub is fucking phenomenal to the point where the vast majority of anime fans will agree its better than the Japanese dub.
There aren't enough words for me to describe just how god damn awesome Yu Yu Hakusho is.

Naruto takes a lot from Hunter x Hunter (Chuunin Exam is like the Hunter exam, Sasuke is like Kurapika, Orochimaru is like Hisoka, Akatsuki is like the troupe), and Bleach takes a lot from Yu Yu Hakusho (A lot of little things, but the biggest offender is the Fullbring Arc which is just the Sensui arc, but not as good.)

HxH is my all time favorite anime simply because of the strategy and unique worldbuilding. You just have to give the right one a try cause there IS a lot of weird stuff out there.

Naoki Urasawa's style isn't dated, it's fucking iconic; the issue is with the compositing, which *is* kind of dated, but the art itself, in addition to the exquisite storytelling, more than carries it. Also Kuniaki Haishima's score is really underrated, aside from the opening which everyone acknowledges is baller.

We always joke about the series very long run saying things like :

It's one of those that I love but at the same time struggle to recommend because for as much as I love it, as frustrating it is, lol. I found it REALLY hard to get into, the first...idk 13 to 17 episodes or so are just SO different from the rest of the show so I really don't blame anyone who gives up during those, thinking it's not their thing. The fact that it stops before the end of the manga is really frustrating too.
I'd actually argue it has very little ACTUAL filler and the few it has are pretty good, but there is a lot of canon that feels like filler...
Despite all that, it's in my top 10 and I love it, but I always hesitate to recommend it to people for the aforementioned issues :x I guess if I enjoyed it I should just trust that other people will enjoy it too if they just give it a try.

    @davidcruz3756 4 роки тому +28

I want to add to the Cased Closed talk. I've been watching since high school, so about 2004, gawd I think I just broke a hip typing that, and there's three things I feel you need to know/accept in order to enjoy the show, iffin you intend on enjoying it.
So thing one, as mentioned in the video, the show doesn't have much in the way of resolution. It started in 1986 or so and is still going strong today. That's not to say that it's all dilly dallying but well there are long stretches of filler, usually you can tell by the quality of the mystery, looking at you bee episode. If you love mysteries it's still a fun ride and if you don't love mysteries maybe just watch the movies, which are the show turned up to 11.
Second thing, as mentioned it started in 86, and it's set in present day. We're now in 2020 and it's still set in present day. It's not always the best at handling that. A good example is that early on Shinichi's inventor friend/neighbor, it was the 80s everyone had one, invents badges so he and his kid friends can communicate, but now they all just have cell phones. Things like that.
And thirdly if you do decide to binge it. You will developed something called detective brain. You'll see mysteries everywhere and will instinctively try and solve them. During this period it's best to keep it all to yourself. You will sound crazy, trust me.
Cased closed is great but it is still going so, don't just buckle up, hunker down. Because it will outlive us all.

The two shows I’ll recommend are both sports anime so that will probably cause 90% of people to skip this comment. Anyways if you haven’t seen it yet “Hajime no Ippo” is a fantastic boxing anime with 76 episodes in its first season with two additional seasons making it come out to 127 eps. The show has great pacing between the build up to matches and then the matches themselves. The other show I feel is often overlooked amongst other sports shows, but if you want a hardheaded yet hard working character that grow from a boy into a man go watch “Major”. It has 154 episodes over the course of 6 fucking seasons and was honestly a show I would have past up on had my roommate not urged me to watch it with him. Compared to Hajime no Ippo this feel like a harder sell especially since Ippo is one of my favorites but I still wanted to mention it anyways. I mean watching the show gave me a much greater understanding of baseball overall.

I love how I haven't watched the shorter series in this video but have seen every single 100+ episode series that was recommended. Then again, I did get into anime about 17 years ago.

It's an obvious one, but I'll always recommend Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, 2nd GIG and Solid State Society, an exquisite cyberpunk thriller that balances both philosophical questions about the nature of humanity, just like the classic, seminal manga it's roughly based on, well-directed, quick action and plots ranging from human trafficking to a series of apparently unrelated terrorist attacks in a post-World War III and IV Japan that sprung back up from the ashes of the war as one of the world's major powers thanks to *NANOMACHINES, SON* .
For something a little less known and especially if fantasy and JRPGs are your thing, Magical Circle Guru Guru is the series for you. With a first season of 45 episodes produced in the mid-90s, a 38-episode second season produced in the early 2000s and a 2017 24-episode remake by Production I.G, the story follows the gentle-hearted, naive little mage girl Kukuri, the last of the Migu Migu tribe who can use the Guru Guru magic, and the "Hero of the Legend" Nike, raised by his parents with the hope that he'd become a world-renowned and famous hero due to having his father's dreams pushed onto him, given that no great evil arose during his father's youth. Together, their mission is to defeat the evil Lord Giri, who was freed from the magic that sealed him for 300 years, and can only be defeated by Guru Guru magic. The series as a whole is both a love letter and a parody of the JRPGs of the 80s and 90s, particularly Dragon Quest, developed by the actual publishers of the series, Enix (yes, Square Enix is the owner of Gangan Comics, which published Fullmetal Alchemist and Soul Eater, too), and while it does rely on toilet jokes once or twice, it's an absurd and hilarious journey with literal side quests and RPG mechanics baked into both the story and the world's inner logic, almost as if the characters are aware of being inside a JRPG.
If you're into sports, instead, I fondly suggest yet another gem from the past, Mitsuru Adachi's magnum opus Touch, a whopping 101-episode story that follows twin brothers Tatsuya and Kazuya Uesugi and their shared love interest, next-door girl Minami Asakura. Due to a childhood promise to her, Kazuya decides, once enrolled in Meisei High School, that he's gonna put his whole being into baseball so that he can become the team's ace pitcher and bring them to the Koshien, Japan's national high school baseball tournament, named after the Hanshin Koshien Stadium in Nishinomiya, home to the Hanshin Tigers. It's a beautifully woven story of sports, love, personal growth and drama which will bring you to both exciting peaks of hype and depths of sadness and desperation - because, spoilers, and I do mean it, SPOILERS, the morning of the final game of the prefectural tournament of their first year, Kazuya is struck by a truck in a traffic accident, losing his life while saving a kid, leaving his twin brother Tatsuya and the baseball team utterly emotionally destroyed, and so Tatsuya takes his deceased brother's mantle in order to fulfill his dream and his promise to their friend.
Much shorter (and sadly with a bit of fluff in the middle), but also the only non-manga based anime in this list is The Secret of Blue Water, the first anime ever produced by Gainax, directed by Hideaki Anno and based on a concept pitched by Hayao Miyazaki to NHK in the 1970s, it's a fascinating steampunk adventure set in 1889 and following the adventure of titular Nadia (as the original title of the series, "Fushigi no Umi no Nadia", "Nadia of the Mysterious Seas", features her front and center much like the story), a 14-year-old circus acrobat of unknown origins and Jean, a young French inventor of the same age as they run from thieves Grandis, Sanson and Hanson, who are after Nadia's *actually* titular pendant, the Blue Water, tied to her mysterious past.
