My hot take is Hakeem Olajuwon is heavily underrated and arguably the 2nd best center of all time. He was unstoppable on offence and a menace on the defense with how many blocks he racked up through his career. Also retired top 10 in blocks, points, rebounds, and steals. The only person to ever do this by the way.
Imma be honest here, I don't really follow the NBA at all except for the Finals. I'm much more of an NFL guy, but the way you make your videos is always so interesting and entertaining to me that you have become one of my favorite sport channels. Thanks for the content my guy!
Hot take: If Jxmy was given a chance to present his well thought out opinions on a platform like ESPN he would definitely change the perspective a lot of people having bad takes
my hot take: fred vanvleet is one of the most improved/underrated players ever. dude went from undrafted, g league, winning a g league ring, called up, winning a ring and is now fighting for a playoff spot while playing at an all star level on a nightly basis
I think it should be changed to Fred being the most underrated/ slept on NBA player ever. Fred always knew he could ball. He just needed a stage to show it. Yes he got better, but that’s what NBA players are expected to do. If he was hot garbage, like a high school bench warmer becoming an NBA allstar, then I’d say most improved. But Fred was a stud in highschool and college so he didn’t really make a drastic improvement. He was just slept on by all the scouts.
Hot Take: Players should be allowed to show more emotion like in the 2000s or before, I hate seeing bs technical fouls for yelling and1 or a small taunt or stare or just throwing the ball a little too hard to the refs. These new refs suck. Call the travels instead
"He's not that good, he just did something no one else on Earth has done before and made the game change all around". What even does "good" mean to these people?
I was gonna say something about staying in the mean of what every other point guard did in the past, but that is literally the opposite of great. So Idk they're delusional i guess
Hot Take: They need to fix or get rid of the NBA skill challenges. It just literally comes down to who can hit the three first none of the other skills are in display. I would get rid of the skill challenges and have one on one king of the hill style contest. Everyone want to see their favorite player go one on one with each other. Dunk contest needs ten judges or anonymous voting. Plus bring in non nba players to complete since there are tons of talent dunkers outside the nba.
@@sonny4978 nba players don’t wanna play 1v1 on the spotlight.... a bad game and they will be laughingstock ... look at Brandon Knight vs Kyrie... mini 1v1 and he still can’t live it down .... it’s also why Lebron & other stars never did the dunk contest .... failing = social media mockery for next 10 years
8:45 Notice how Larry Bird had just as many all defensive teams as Kobe (granted Kobe was on 1st team on 1 of those 3 all defensive teams while Bird was 2nd team on all 3) and more than Shaq during their 9th season? People really sleep on Bird defensively.
My issue with Curry is how much of his value comes from his 3 point shooting? Is he an all time great? Yes. Is he a current great? Yes. My issue is if he wasn't as good at 3 point shooting (or in a massive slump like he is right now), how effective is he really? Can he be a solid point guard and run an offense? I think so. The thing is I just don't see him just running the offense that often. Granted I don't watch every single Warriors game. I'd like some honest and intelligent feedback on that from someone who actually knows basketball.
Hot take: to say a great player would dominate or being trash in another era different than his is not a good or realistic point. Every player modeled and played the game according to their time.
Hot take: Ron artest was on the road to having a great career if it weren’t for the Malace at the palace and his temper. Before the incident he was starting to become a great player and was arguably top 3 defensively in 03. I think he would be a premier player in the league if it weren’t for the malice at the palice.
Was a ticket holder that season for indy. He was looking like an mvp! For.. what.... 7 games? It's a shame we didn't get to see what that team was capable of. I'm still not over it. :p
Hot take: We are about to enter one of the greatest nba eras of all time. We have a lot of promising young talent and even if just 70% of that promise comes true the league might just be as loaded as it was in the 90s. Ja, Trae, Doncic, and this 2020 draft class are so full of potential it's amazing
@@LookingForAName... okay well idk really how to say it but the nba is way more talented right now but not as competitive like the players are better but theres a lot more of them that dont have that killer mentality when it comes to winning
@@htownblack9184 Yup, I agree with that. Needless aggression and contact doesn't make the sport better. I want to see a good display of skills, I don't care about handchecking or grown men getting super angry over a ball game. As long as they're playing to win, which most are, I'm good.
Hot take: James Harden would’ve had more success had he gone to Philly instead of the Nets. Harden feeding Joel Embiid the same way he set up Capela(their beef aside) would be insane. Defences would be torn on how to defend hardens isolations on the perimeter and Embiid’s post presence.
Hot take on your Hot take: Nets would be more successful if they haven't traded for Harden. Yes they were hit with injuries but part of the reason they had injuries is because they didn't have depth (and Harden gaining and losing weight extremely fast didn't help either) i don't think they would have as many injury problems if they didn't go through with the trade
Embiid isn't a lob threat to the extend of capella embiid is big strong and SKILLED capella cuts and jumps higher not saying embiid cant catch a lob or thay harden couldn't work with him but embiid isn't a pick qnd roll guy he's q iso post up guy and even when he does pick and roll most times he gets the ball far before oop territory

Muggsy Bogues isn't just a short guy, he was one of the most fundamentally sound and skillful players to enter to league. Not that he could have been an all-time player necessarily but his skill is up there for top 50 and was an above average player
Yeah, dude literally held 3 franchise records for the charlotte hornets when he retired, and still holds 2, for steals and assists (other one was minutes but kemba walker broke that)
Hot take: if the nets kept allen, lavert dinwiddie, and the crew without trading them for harden or pursuing his contract, the nets would be a lot better. More depth and more squad game. My opinion
Not a hot take. Especially keeping Allen. Granted, the Kylie vax, harden exiting his prime and wanting to possibly leave makes this take not hot whatsoever in hind sight but there are still people who swear up and down they’ll just figure it out and flip a switch and dominate.
An argument could be made that Tim Duncan was every bit as important to the Spurs as Kobe was to the Lakers, but let's be honest, Duncan wasn't exactly flashy. There was a lot to admire about his game and his relentless fundamentals, but who would you rather watch in a game? Popularity is a factor in these decisions, even when it doesn't deserve to be.
@@eg_space In the two seasons that the Lakers won the finals with Kobe and Pau, the supporting cast was solid. They had Bynum, Odom and Metta World Peace, who were all very solid players in their areas of expertise. Having a lot of skilled role players can be just as valuable as having multiple all stars. Just ask Jordan and Pippen.
Hot take:Michael Jordan wasn't actually that good he was just able to score, assist, rebound, steal, make his teammates play better and win a repeat three peat like he was kinda average
Not even a bad take he one of the best when he came in 91 if he came out of Russia earlier he probably could've been at least a 2x champion in 90/91 (they really needed him)
Hot take: We never saw Derrick Rose in his prime. His career changing injury happened when he was 25 I believe; and most players don’t reach their prime until 27.
The tragic thing is that he would've probably gotten injured later in his career. Players that are that athletic and constantly lands on 1 foot will eventually come down on an ankle or knee injury
I do have to disagree with your Giannis take somewhat, imo, he's one of two players under 30, currently in the NBA that has the potential to be top 5 all time, and the other one is Luka, obviously, its wayyyy too early to tell for him, but i think that's his ceiling
@Max most players decline because their athletic ability declines but lukas playstyle is so nonchalant and crafty that athleticism dropping won’t really effect him. also he isn’t gonna be prone to injury bc of his playstyle as well
I kinda agree with both but it's just so early to say that one of them will end up top 10 or top 5. Only time will tell where they will rank all time but they do have a chance to rank really high on the all time list
Hot take: 2018 Houston Rockets are one of the greatest teams in recent NBA history and definitely the best team to not win the ring (except 73-9 warriors). That team almost won against the best team in league history, but catastrophic amount of bad luck, injuries and all time team choke ruined game 7. 99 out 100 times that Houston team wins game 7, this was just never before seen collapse. Against prime KD warriors. This team deserves respect. This is also my answer to Jimmy's take that Harden cant be THE guy on ring winning team.
I don’t agree with that. James harden was phenomenal that season but the team 3 point consistency was ass. In recent NBA, it was an atypical team to watch because of the small ball line up.but since they didn’t reach championship. I can’t say their one of the greatest in recent NBA.
Hot take: We are already used to Giannis being in the talk for the best player in the league so when the media overlooks him we forget about him. I would like to think they have put Giannis in the first spot already, but when somebody puts Giannis in comparisson to Morant, I get annoyed hard. Like all the respect to Ja and I wish him all time great carrer but right now shut yo mouth about him being close to Giannis.
Hot take: if theres one player ahead of giannis that is under 30 and a potential future top 5 all time it’s Luka. Man is putting up these numbers at 23, he still will improve over the next 4 years before he hits his prime. The longevity of his game will allow that prime to last many years
I wonder how many rings Luka, Jokic, Embiid and Giannis will finish their careers with. Presumeably the second half of the 2020s will be a tossup between them for titles.
@@gm2407 Embiid is almost 30 already so he probably has like 3-8 good years left and he is quite injury prone but will most likely have 1-3 rings Giannis probably will have 2-4 rings and Luka will have at least 1

Nuggets are top 5 in the league when he is on the court but when he goes to bench they are the worst team. People underestimate Jokic and he is so underrated. No one is giving him the attention he deserves...
My hot take is that it is absolutely pointless trying to find a GOAT. You cannot objectively compare people from different eras and who played different positions, who impacted the game in different ways, whose championships, MVPs, All-NBA Selections don't hold the same weight to everyone. It's impossible to agree on what is more valuable. One might say that all accolades are valuable yes, but you will always put some over others. Sane for stats No matter how you slice the argument, you cannot find an objective answer.
Don't forget the rules are different; the style are different (NBA slowly and slowly changed from favouring defense to favouring offense); and even the court itself are different (They have widened the paint like 2 times already). If MJ is going back into Wilt's time, there's no guarantee he's going to be the GOAT, because the style and expectations was different back then. He might not get the development needed to be so great, just because being a guard back then was literally hell.
counterpoint: Gretzky and Brady are clear goats in their sport. Baseball and basketball its much tougher, but even in basketball it really comes down to two players, I've never seen any GOAT arguments include anyone else besides Jordan and James. Like yeah Shaq, Duncan, Abdul-Jabbar, Chamberlain, Bird, Kobe were cool, but no one is claiming they're the best ever.
@@csanadhorvath I don't know anything about American Football, Hockey or Baseball so I won't venture there What I will say, and this applies to Soccer too, is that I think this duel at the top is really enhanced by the media machines who make it feel like it could only be one of these two
Hot take: NBA fans live too in the moment. When a once great player falls off, they downplay their prior achievements and when a player blows up they take it too far. Inversely , on the other end of the spectrum some fans are stagnant and believe the players of today cant hold a candle to the past. eg Giannis Also LaMelo has a bright future, but is currently overrated. 😁
Hot take: If Ben Simmons would’ve just dunk the damn ball, he’d be playing for 76ers this year. Fans would be mad and then they would’ve gotten over it at beginning of season.
Hot take: Barring death accidents/ devastating injuries, KG is the unluckiest player in NBA history. In 2000, the Wolves lost 5 first round picks because of the Joe Smith incident which basically means that the Wolves can’t surround KG with help aside from free agency but very few players like to go the Wolves. When they did, they reached the Western conference finals but unfortunately, Cassell got injured. Then Sprewell thinks he can’t feed his family leaving KG with no help. To add insult to injury, his bestfriend and mentor, Malik Sealy died in 2001 who happens to be the 2nd best player on the wolves team that season. KG’s teammates had a combined one all NBA selection in Minnesota when he played for 14 seasons. For comparison, Kobe had more than 10. In Boston, the Celtics were on pace to reach 70 wins in 2009 but KG tore his MCL. In 2010 Game 7 NBA Finals in the 4th quarter, the refs gave the Celtics only 3 free throws meanwhile the Lakers have 20 in the 4TH QUARTER ALONE and don’t tell me that they actually foul them because I’ve seen a lot of BS fouls there favoring the Lakers in that game. The Celtics actually shot better from the field, from the three, and in the foul line that game but the Lakers won. Also, people try to say that KG’s contract was huge and he was greedy but people don’t know back then that KG was 21 when he signed that contract and he was actually younger than Duncan that time who was a rookie. If you give a 21 year old today that would make 50M$ a year, they would take it any day.
The man led his T-Wolves to seven straight first round losses, enough said. I got KG somewhere in my top 30-35 all-time range, the 6th best PF ever. He had to join up with other stars to win a title. He's all-time great, but I just disagree with your sentiment that he's the unluckiest player ever. He was an alpha in terms of his big barking dog personality, but when the playoffs rolled around and the game got tight, he acted more like a little beta dog with a little whimper. He needed a great scorer on his team to close the game out for him. He was way too passive in those big games, it's why the T-Wolves never really got far except for 2004. He had Paul Pierce to close out games for him later on in Boston.
@@QuestionEverything562 this idea that KG needed an elite player next to him in his prime is so cap. He just needed 1 all star level talent guard at best and players who actually can defend a chair and shoot league average. Y’all like to praise them overrated mfs like Dirk and Giannis who y’all say carried their teams to chips but both of them had elite defenders and good shooters around them KG in his whole time in Minnesota never had 1 above average defender in his tenure. The 1 season he had some ok teammates he had the 1 seed and then his help got hurt during the playoffs and he was forced to play the point as a 7 footer during the WCF losing to the Lakers in 6 games. Why you think when he got next to some defenders and shooters he started winning? His scoring isn’t even bad it’s not all time level but it’s good enough to win a chip. The problem with why people say he can’t score in the playoffs is because his teammates literally couldn’t shoot consistently enough to warrant not double teaming him and forcing him to pass up the ball.
@@6dotz @.... One all-star level point guard? He had Sam Cassell who was a terrific floor general PG, he was also an all-star in that very season when KG finally got past the first round. As soon as Cassell got there, they got to the WCFs, but you're admitting to me that a superstar player like KG couldn't elevate his team enough to get past the first round for seven straight whole seasons without Cassell? He also had Sprewell avg 20 ppg in that series against the Lakers. If anything, it was not the T-Wolves defense that let them down against the Lakers, it was their inability to score down the stretch. The Wolves held Shaq to 20 ppg, and Kobe to 24 ppg on 41% shooting. You joke on Dirk and Giannis for actually leading their teams to a title, yet your boy KG couldn't even beat or remotely stop Dirk Nowitzki in the 2003 playoffs while KG was in his physical prime. Dirk avg 33 ppg with 52% shooting on KG's supposed lockdown defensive a** while absolutely sweeping KG off the floor 3-0. KG is the most overrated big of the 2000s, stop capping. KG's lack of offensive aggression is what typically held the Wolves back from succeeding past the 1st damn round. KG was mostly just a great rebounder and great defender, but his offense would go missing when needed the most. Sprewell would want the ball more than him in the 4th qtr. His leadership was also very questionable, he was a lot of rah rah, but not a whole lot of strategy. Cassell brought the real leadership and guidance to that team.
My hot take: Great defensive players in the past wouldn't be as great of defenders in this era due to more perimeter and fast paced play as well as rules regarding fouls. A step further is to say that good defensive players today would be much better with hand checking. Prime iguadala in the 80s would be one of the best defenders
good call... people say "oh but the NBA was a lot more rough back then" but i really feel like it was only rough because the game was played almost completely inside the arc or even the key, and defensive players of this era are more capable of defending in much more situations... lmk if i'm wrong
Well if we’re talking about plucking a guy from one period and putting him in another period, then yeah probably. But if we’re talking about taking a player and having them adapt to how the game has changed, then absolutely not
The rules and style of play dictate the game and shape the players. I agree with your take, but then the opposite is true as well. Great modern offensive players wouldn't be as potent offensively if they played the style and rules of the 80s/90s, and great offensive players of the past would have a load more freedom to play as they please making them even more lethal than they already were under the rules of today. MJ, Bird, Shaq, Kobe, Magic just to name a few would be pulling out astronomical offensive numbers today with the amount of freedom and space available. So I think it all balances out really.
@@neo-soul7779 I slightly disagree when you mentioned offensive players. Eras aren't only dictated by rules but also players, coaches and science/analytics. I don't think MVP James Harden would be as successful in the 80s, due to his play style and reliance on a team that can shoot, as well as his abuse of the rules. Steph Curry on the other hand, I believe would still be as great offensively

Not a hot take: The NBA needs to be broken down into eras. We can no longer put Mike and LeBron in the same conversation… unless it’s only about being one of the greats. There needs to be an analysis done of each era and take the average stats of said era and categorize NBA players that way.
But what makes that hard is dividing it into eras and then there will always be players that are in multiple eras, how do you say who belongs in what era, I mean some players would possibly be placed in three eras
As someone who’s a fan of baseball you guys definitely need a stat like baseball has ops+ Meaning it takes the average from the era that each player played in so it can show you just how powerful a player was compared to everyone else in that area
Kyle Korver, even though he was my favorite player after Kobe retired, is the unluckiest playoff player. Played with D-Rose when he got hurt, was swept by Lebron in 2016 when the hawks were the 1 seed. Yeah I believe that too. People attribute Brons 41 points performance in Game 6 to the absence of Draymond but then forget that Draymond was there in Game 6 and Bron still dropped 40. The only consistent thing in these games was that Bogut was missing.

Growing up i was convinced MJ was literaly a God. Nothing i have seen since has come close to MJ. I'd take Wilt in his peak to start my team over anyone else in a heartbeat.
Hot take - George Mikan had a top 15-20 all time career at minimum and the decision to place the line on who gets credit for dominance in front of Mikan but behind Bill and Wilt (who each had WAY more help getting their rings than George did) is criminally arbitrary. Dude was All-NBA 1st team 6 out of 7 seasons, played 6 of his 7 seasons before the introduction of the Regular Season MVP as the best player on the best team; won 5 out of 5 championships before the introduction of the Finals MVP as the best player on the winning team, and led the league in defensive win shares in 5 of his 6 seasons before the introduction of the Defensive Player of the Year award and before the introduction of All-Defensive Teams. He played for 3 seasons before minutes per game were tracked but even if you assume he got his Win Shares on a worst case 48 minutes every game he would have the number one Win Shares per 48 of all time by such a huge margin that the gap between him and #2 is larger than the gap between #2 and #18. Played 5 of 7 seasons before the creation of the shot clock and in his first seasons scored 35% of the average total team score per game - this would scale to 39 ppg at today's pace if efficiency held even (32 PPG on his career) - which by the way, his True Shooting% was 113% the league average and he had 3 seasons in top 5 true shooting% to go along with his 3 Scoring Titles (top 5 in 6 consecutive seasons out of 7) and his 2 Rebounding Titles (even though Rebounds weren't even counted until his 3rd season - at which point he was top 5 for 4 consecutive seasons out of 5). Is he anywhere near the 15th best basketball player in history? Would he be that good if plucked out of the past and dropped into the modern NBA? Of course not. But when we're talking careers, dude did everything that there was to do while he was around to do it and he gets penalized in retrospect because his name doesn't show up on "most MVPs" or "most Finals MVPs" or "most DPOYs" lists because they didn't give the awards out to anyone while he was playing. Is it fair to just imagine he'd have received all of these awards if they existed? Probably not - but it's pretty hard to believe he'd have received none of them either and if Giannis is debatably a top 30 player all time right now with 1 ring, 1 Finals MVP, 2 MVPs, 1 DPOY, 5 All NBA, and 4 All Defense on 9 seasons - where do you rank the career of someone with 5 rings and at LEAST that same resume + multiple scoring titles, and multiple rebounding titles in 7 seasons?
People critically underestimate people from that era. My favorite example personally is Maurice Stokes only played 3 seasons but averaged the 3rd highest average in rebounds per game at 17.2 or something ridiculous. His career was cut short by debilitating injuries and he died at 38 (I think he was also the first NBA player to die). But nobody has even heard of this 6’4 dude averaging almost 20 rpg on guys like bill russell and Bob Pettit (he led the league one year and never placed less than 3rd on the top 10).
@@bryanchandler3486 Rodman was the Kobe of rebounding, he got good because of insane amounts of work. Most of these guys couldn’t train nearly as much because they weren’t always flying to the other places to play, training and honing has become far more accessible with all of our technological advances. And it wasn’t all the time black guys were even able to access proper facilities for doing this.
to add to this, goaltending was literally introduced because of mikan cz he kept catching shots before they went in. he changed the way the game is played/officiated just like wilt did.
I feel like theres a lot of truth in that. But at the end of the day they were just filling a role in the team. If your the best and a great scorer, why not take full advantage?
I do agree with this to some degree, but the bulls players even believed that MJ made the team different. But on the other hand, it makes sense that this would be true.
@@almightyyeezydab5149 Kobe could score from anywhere on the floor LeBron is also great but not a pure shooter and has improved over time and Kobe made his free throws
Something that goes completely unnoticed by many fans is the talent around players as they develop their game and play. Klay Thompson played his whole career on a super team, while ray allen started in a bad team that couldn’t help him. These things squander great players and skew statistics, but those are the same ones people blindly back up the lofty players of better situations. Not as much a hot take, and more of a realization most miss
Another problem is that people like to discredit HOF teammates in order to boost one player. People will talk about the Jordan era Bull’s teammates like they’re sewer water, even though they had a starting five of future HOF’ers. People also act like Stephen Curry/KD carried the warriors alone as if they weren’t arguably the single greatest NBA team ever. And you’re spot on about how people will discredit guys like Ray Allen and even Iverson just because they didn’t have a dominant team, but that’s not their fault
This is the exact reason why people look at draymond green and say the exact same thing. if green played for a scrub team instead of GSW he mightve ended up average
Sure but you also have to consider that klay is on a team with THE best shooter every and a handful of other fantastic players through the years which means he gets less shots when ray allen is more relied on from his team and is alowed and does take more shots
@@judahwatcher1140 My guy, they had the splash bros AND the deepest bench in the league. Iggy was a starter material gone sixth man, livingston could lead second squad solid or help lock down defensively 1st and 2nd string, Bogut who was an all star center could hold his own against any centers if going against bigger teams while McGee providing explosiveness and hustle to give him breather or keep the line small. Then you got Draymond who's an excellent facilitator mid-play that clears up any clogging during the plays. It was a super team my man
my hot take is stockton get's way too disrespected considering all people say is his all time assist record is inflated and him being number 1 in steals still doesn't show he was a good defender but that still doesn't factor in his insane durability and reliability for 19 seasons he played 10 straight 82 game seasons
It would be true if not for a few legends that are/were good at everything. The best example is LeBron. The man has been in 27/7/7/1.5/1.5 for about two decades now and he has literally played all positions so he is more versatile. But Jokic is scary versatile it's true.
He was a real bad defender past few years he improved a lot yeah but he still isnt anywhere near being a good rim protector yeah he can disturb passes and dribbles on the ground but he isnt atlethic enough to be a good rim protector although i love him and the other parts i agree on he probably is the most versatile big not player tho
@@gregoireliron7554 LeBron is obviously more talented I’m talking about how a 7 footer can glide down the court, play pg, throw no look passes everywhere, and shoot the lights out. He also has the highest PER ever this season by quite a bit too.
I think to qualify for most versatile, he would have to be a great defender, which he unfortunately will never be because he will never have the quick feet of a Giannis, Rodman, Olajuwon. However most versatile offensive player, you might have a case there.
numbers dont dictate clutch or plays that change the momentum in games. analytics isnt how you figure out whos the best player ever. if youve never seen anyone play but youve got the stats in front of you, numbers dont tell the majority of the story. intangibles matter more than stats
My hot take is that Lebron’s underperformance in the 2011 finals wasn’t as bad as people think and not enough credit is given to the Mavs especially after sweeping the b2b champions and beating the underrated Thunder
Hot take: In his prime, Celtics Isaiah Thomas was one of the most talented players the game has ever seen. I guarantee no one in the nba today could average 29ppg and 6apg like IT did, and lead their team to be the first seed in the east... if they were the very short height of 5’9”.
Hot Take: Current generation relies too much on stats and accolade to deem someone's greatness. They think someone with better career points, assists, rebounds, and steals averages and have this many MVPs and champions ships with All NBA selections deem someone's greatness.
@@imdirtydan3277 yes absolutely. That half an extra rebound could be the deciding factor between a finals loss and a finals win. Shaq has nothing on Kemp
They're 100% trying. You don't make the hardest basketball league in the world giving 50% (unless you're an unbelievable prodigy). If you watch any NBA documentaries focused on players you'll see they are constantly grinding and giving the most they can on the court independent of the standings.
I agree, give their bodies more time to rest, maybe the tickets will increase in price but the quality of the game will be better, make them care more about winning but let them be healthier to compete. Sponsors would hate this though.
My take: The 2017-18 Rockets would have won the NBA Championship (giving Harden and CP3 their first ring) if Chris Paul wasn’t injured at Game 5 (after securing a 3-2 lead against the Warriors)
you have to remember that 3 points is better than 2 points even tho they both use a possession, AND people are still shooting less than half of them, just watch new steph curry clones shooting 55-60% from three in the future. The longer we wait, the better people are going to be at shooting threes so no, a big men era will not happen
Embiid and Jokic say you're wrong, When was the last time the NBA had 2(3 if you count Giannis) big men at their level??? Big men will keep shooting like KAT but the GREAT ones will be unstoppable with such a widespread court just like we're seeing right now.
My hot take is that if the 2009-2010 Nuggets had a better coach, then they could’ve won the title one of those years. They were loaded and lacked a lot of discipline.
The problem with those teams was Carmelo Anthony. Period. The sob refused to play defense and was only effective on offense bc Billups was running the show so he couldn't stop the ball n use 15 secs to take a shot.
100% true. Underrated. Idc if I'm bs since he is one of my 5 favourite players all time, but if you put all time every player in his prime, DWade is one of the 5 best.
Hey Jimmy, love your videos. Could you please make a video about players like Ingram, Kuzma, etc. leaving the Lakers and becoming significantly better? I thought that would be interesting.
Hot Take: Many people say D Booker is the closest thing to Kobe in todays NBA. BUT as you can see from game 7 of the mavs suns game you can see booker doesnt have the killer instinct. My hot take is that Demar Derozen Is the CLOSEST thing to Kobe we have in todays NBA. Look at his game, hes a SF/SG, he lives on the mid range shot, hes 6'6-7, As far as we have seen Bulls Demar has the clutch jean like Kobe.
Booker telling that mascot to leave because he didn't like being distracted during his free-throws is burnt into my mind. People are dumb as fuck comparing him to kobe.
Hot take: I think the Nets should have traded Kyrie for Ben Simmons if possible. I know most fans don't want their team to touch Ben Simmons with a 10 foot pole rn, but I actually think he fits in well on the Nets. The team already has a lot of shooting and offensive fire power, and I think the other skills Ben brings to the team would really help round them out. Especially considering he'd actually be able to play home games for them. Meanwhile Kyrie would also be able to play home games in Philly.
As an Australian most of us feel legally obliged to love Ben Simmons but he is completely disrespectful to his teammates and coaches. He is in his own head thinking he needs a better team. Here’s my hot take: the 76ers could be a championship contender if Ben tried a bit more harder and was a bit more selfless.
Hot take: Zaza injuring Kawhi indirectly ended the Warriors dynasty because if he hadn’t done that then maybe Kawhi wouldn’t have been traded to the Raptors and the Warriors would have 3 peated.
Whoa. That's some Marvel Universe timeline hot take. Interestinggg take on Zaza and Kawhi. If Kawhi never left the Raptors could have three-peated too. That's my take.
Here 12 hours before game 6 Finals 2022. The hot take of the moment is "steph winning a chip and fmvp would put him top 10 all time". Just throwing it out there. I have another hot take for the future season. The mavs and pelicans will battle for a spot in the 2023 WCF (I have GSW having the second spot) after... (this gets interesting) one of them beat the Clippers fully loaded!
Exactly. Literally the superteam before LeBrons superteam in Miami was the big 3 Boston Celtics. Which is the whole reason LeBron started a superteam in the first place lmao, so he never really started the superteam trend, he just popularized it in a way.
kind of true but also kind of not true... without Curry the league would have need another 10 years to get to this point when you look at the numbers, but in those 10 years players like Embiid, Jokic and most of Giannis would have pushed the league back to what it was in the 80-90s and more so since centers or 7 footers wouldnt need to be so skilled to be successful in the league... dont forget that in 2014-2018 the center position was so over looked average centers who would usually have a 13 year career in the league lost their jobs so teams can have more rooster spots to create small ball death line-ups to keep up with the Warriors lol... Curry forced players and the league not to only get better at shooting the 3 but the addition of Green forced teams to find skilled centers which force centers to have to be as skilled as they are today
@@isaacdebeila8085 Steph is one of the most multidimensional players in NBA history - he displays (1) balance between personal ego and team cohesion (2) high tempo (3) off ball movement (4) world class handling (5) team defense concept (6) Insane intuition allowing him to be an elite rebounder for a small guard without much leaping ability. @@philwilson609 Green is top 50 no doubt but 20 is stretch due to his offensive fall off.... as for what you said on Curry dude is legit how you put him... if Draymond averaged 15 points a game he would be top 20
Klay Thompson is one of the most impactful players to a franchise. Was a staple of why the Warriors got 3 championships in 4 years. And after 2 YEARS of not even playing a NBA game he comes back like he never left and with more support than ever.
Well, his comeback took more mental strength than most players in the league have. That shows his mentality, he will stop at nothing to win, be better, he's a competitor, unfortunately not all guys are that strong.
I teared up when he came back. Never been emotional about sports like that before. He’s a once in a lifetime type of player and competitor. The NBA wasn’t right without him.
Hot take: Pistol Pete would be a top 5 player in the league if he played today. He’s the og Steph Curry who shooting from the logo but it was only counted for 2. If he average 31 back then when his team was averaging 100 points and now team are averaging around 110 and are dropping 130 every other game he would be averaging close to 45 with a 3 point line and today’s pace
he average 31 points on 42 minutes. if you cut back to 34 mins which is what most star players average in a season, then yeah, he will still score around 31 points.
Hot take: The Dallas Mavericks in 2011 have arguably the most underrated finals run in nba history. Everyone talks about the Heat and Lebrons collapse, but that Dallas team swept the back to back defending champs, did a gentlemans sweep on a talented OKC team that made the finals only a year later, and of course killed the big three in Miami winning 3 consecutive games. Always felt like their amazing run was overshadowed by the story of the underperforming superteam
I don't think it's underrated. In fact there are videos here on youtube about the toughest championships and I'm pretty sure they were ranked 2nd behind hakeem and drexler rockets
Yeah maybe the statement that that team is underrated is at least as valid if not more. All in all it just seemed like people forget how solid that team actually was. Then again, this is just the narrative I’ve heard when talking about it with people. And even then its not a factual statement, people are still allowed to disagree
Although he made it to NBA finals, overall lack of offensive creativity and consistency shown by Jimmy Butler makes me think he cannot be the first option on a championship team.
Honestly? After this recent Finals, that is NOT a bad take. He can definitely be the reason they win games, but he needs a true second #1 shooter so he doesn't run out of gas like he did in his two Finals runs. If the Heat eventually get this Dame trade done, they should be odds-on favorites to win the East, if not the whole damn thing

Unless your Lebron 😂 It’s funny cuz D-Rose was actually 22
Ye
Big “if”, but I believe if Derrick Rose had hit his prime, he would’ve been by now top 3 PG of all time.
I tell ppl this all the time.
Luka 100% has a chance, he pretty much already runs the nba and he’s only 22, crazy
bro good take it’s really bold to say this early but his consistency and playstyle that isn’t prone to injury could really make him great
@Max most players decline because their athletic ability declines but lukas playstyle is so nonchalant and crafty that athleticism dropping won’t really effect him. also he isn’t gonna be prone to injury bc of his playstyle as well
I kinda agree with both but it's just so early to say that one of them will end up top 10 or top 5. Only time will tell where they will rank all time but they do have a chance to rank really high on the all time list
i actually agree luka has huge potential
I actually agree. 2018 Houston is one of the best non-title teams in recent memory.

Sane for stats No matter how you slice the argument, you cannot find an objective answer.
this comment actually makes you the GOAT, pal
Don't forget the rules are different; the style are different (NBA slowly and slowly changed from favouring defense to favouring offense); and even the court itself are different (They have widened the paint like 2 times already).
If MJ is going back into Wilt's time, there's no guarantee he's going to be the GOAT, because the style and expectations was different back then. He might not get the development needed to be so great, just because being a guard back then was literally hell.
@@scipio764 That's also a valid point to my argument
counterpoint: Gretzky and Brady are clear goats in their sport.

Sorry but I ain’t reading this 😭
Hes not as unlucky as anyone that hasn’t won a title tho. Come on.
@@QuestionEverything562 this idea that KG needed
an elite player next to him in his prime is so cap.
But if we’re talking about taking a player and having them adapt to how the game has changed, then absolutely not
@@toilet4441 true. talents will always transcends generation

My man pulled out the whole essay for this one 😂
@@thepineapplesmustbevanquis4509 Damn shout out to a legend. Thanks for teaching me a bit of NBA history. Dude was Rodman before Rodman
The wisdom of these fans is insane, I'll add some of myself: Anthony Bennett would have surpassed MJ by miles if MJ didn't remember to breathe
Hot take : MJ and Kobe's solo scoring abilities blinded a generation from the fact that basketball is a team game
Nba did in general maybe 3 or 4 teams that showed real team effort. If you want kids to learn the game as a whole, let them watch euro league
I feel like theres a lot of truth in that. But at the end of the day they were just filling a role in the team. If your the best and a great scorer, why not take full advantage?
LeBron is a better scorer than Kobe though
Klay only played a couple years with KD
Warriors wasn't a super team before that
They had chemistry and could shoot
The splash brothers
Where do u put him all time PG?

Jokic is arguably the most versatile player ever because of his size, passing, shooting, and he’s a very underrated defender
@@utkuayla9169 I know he’s not Embiid level defender but he’s an above average defender especially in the paint

It was a bad performance by Bron, however people seem to forget that Kobe got swept by them too. But ya know, haters gonna hate. It is what it is.

So basically if they were Isaiah Thomas they couldn’t be Isaiah Thomas😂😂😂 Gotchu

Hot take: The regular season is so long and the standings with the play in is so forgiving that the players don't even try or are just too tired.
They're 100% trying. You don't make the hardest basketball league in the world giving 50% (unless you're an unbelievable prodigy). If you watch any NBA documentaries focused on players you'll see they are constantly grinding and giving the most they can on the court independent of the standings.
I honestly agree. Slim the season down to 50 games or so and watch certain teams try a lot harder. Quality over quantity
Kinda agree
I agree, give their bodies more time to rest, maybe the tickets will increase in price but the quality of the game will be better, make them care more about winning but let them be healthier to compete.
Sponsors would hate this though.
Not even a hot take this the truth

kobe is overrated
Hot take: with more rising stars attacking the rim, the league will transition to a big man era in the latter years this decade
it's gonna take time because this 3pt era is gonna last for a very long time, lol.
Cavs already on that trend
Bro when centers start shooting 3s better like Jokic, valanciunas etc.. and also what you said big man era is coming again
you have to remember that 3 points is better than 2 points even tho they both use a possession, AND people are still shooting less than half of them, just watch new steph curry clones shooting 55-60% from three in the future.
Nah......
You mean the Thuggets.
Don’t agree
That’s good tho
The problem with those teams was Carmelo Anthony. Period. The sob refused to play defense and was only effective on offense bc Billups was running the show so he couldn't stop the ball n use 15 secs to take a shot.

They could get so much value from kyrie why waste it on only Ben Simmons
ben isnt worth kyrie
As an Australian most of us feel legally obliged to love Ben Simmons but he is completely disrespectful to his teammates and coaches. He is in his own head thinking he needs a better team. Here’s my hot take: the 76ers could be a championship contender if Ben tried a bit more harder and was a bit more selfless.
ben simmons has shown the entire nba that if he takes a loss, he doesnt take accountability and blames everyone around him instead
Ben Simmons is trash my guy

LeBron didn’t cause “super teams” to exist , they’ve always been there. He just shifted the control of creating a super team from owners to players.
Don't think this is a hot take anymore
That's a great take
He literally did a video on this I’m sure, or it might have been the 2008 Celtics dynasty
Exactly. Literally the superteam before LeBrons superteam in Miami was the big 3 Boston Celtics. Which is the whole reason LeBron started a superteam in the first place lmao, so he never really started the superteam trend, he just popularized it in a way.
Ya that’s the issue, players could just leave and I respect whatever they do b it can make the nba boring
Steph was the wind that changed the game!!!! It probably would have happened without him, but it definitely happened because of him!!!
kind of true but also kind of not true... without Curry the league would have need another 10 years to get to this point when you look at the numbers, but in those 10 years players like Embiid, Jokic and most of Giannis would have pushed the league back to what it was in the 80-90s and more so since centers or 7 footers wouldnt need to be so skilled to be successful in the league... dont forget that in 2014-2018 the center position was so over looked average centers who would usually have a 13 year career in the league lost their jobs so teams can have more rooster spots to create small ball death line-ups to keep up with the Warriors lol... Curry forced players and the league not to only get better at shooting the 3 but the addition of Green forced teams to find skilled centers which force centers to have to be as skilled as they are today

My hot take about that is dirk shouldn't get all the credit for that finals run his teammates stepped up big time but the narrative is he carried them
Literally everyone give credit to that run, dafuq?
Yeah maybe the statement that that team is underrated is at least as valid if not more. All in all it just seemed like people forget how solid that team actually was. Then again, this is just the narrative I’ve heard when talking about it with people. And even then its not a factual statement, people are still allowed to disagree
Although he made it to NBA finals, overall lack of offensive creativity and consistency shown by Jimmy Butler makes me think he cannot be the first option on a championship team.
