What was your favorite 70s disco song and maybe we’ll include it in the next video?
Click bait
The Emotions had Best of My Love, maybe should have beat Anita Ward though it maybe wasn't as popular. Macho Man was my VP selection. Lady Marmalade should be there too.
WHAT is 'controversial' about any of these songs. All of these songs belong on any list of disco essentials but non are controversial.. i spent a lot of time in discos during the 70s in the U.S. and UK. Resorting to click bait titles makes you a liar.
The Village People:
Two members were openly Gay. This was what made “Y.M.C.A.” controversial . Some said it seemed like someone cruising for sex at the YMCA. And the fact that the group did not have permission to use their name-
However, membership at the clubs skyrocketed.
My favorite disco song is Last Dance by Donna Summer!
Yes! Love that one too 🎶
I'm 69 now and my disco anthem has become "...barely alive, barely alive..."
Disco Inferno is my favorite and still my favorite today. I can't dance like I use to , but even if I can still sit in my seat and move Disco Inferno gets me going,
This is absolutely awesome. 70s music is so good. Great job on the video.
Thank you so much John 🪩🕺💃
Im so happy those pants came back lol
You can rock anything 🪩💃
"There But For the Grace of God go I"by Machine may be the most controversial disco song.
I don’t even know that 🏃♀️ to Google
@@WaybackUSA ....WHAT!??? ...the tune is about an (ethnic) Couple who had a Child, & move, because they don't want to be associated with, '..Bl-cks, J-ws, & G-ys.." ...Only for their only Daughter to run away at 16, with a Black Man...and, with a newfound loose libido...this tune was controversial, BELIEEEVE me....
@@WaybackUSA…it’s one of the best songs of the era. Disco is so diverse with a wide spectrum. Maybe you can make a list of the under appreciated artist and songs of Disco. Such as
Linda Clifford - Runaway Love
Patti Brooks - After Dark
Grace Jones - Do Or Die/Pull Up To My Bumper
Claudja Barry - Boogie Woogie Dancing Shoes
Voyage - Souvenirs
Jean Carne - Was That All It Was
Miquel Brown - Close To Perfection
Ramona Brooks - I Don’t Want You Back
Just to name a few
This Time Baby by Jackie Moore, Relight my Fire by Dan Hartman, Come to Me by France Joli, almost any song by Donna Summer.
Some of the hits on this list are not really disco such as YMCA, Dancing Queen. Sure they were dance songs, but not disco. I tried to come up with my top10 and could not do so. So, I came up with top 10 Male and top 10 Female. Here they are in order :
Male :
Stayin' Alive Bee Gee's
Don't stop till you get enough Michael Jackson
Disco Inferno The Tramps
Boogie Nights Heatwave
Get down tonight KC and the Sunshine Band
Night Fever Bee Gee's
Boogie Wonderland Earth, Wind and Fire
Shake your booty KC and the Sunshine Band
That's the way I like it KC and the Sunshine Band
Boogie Shoes KC and the Sunshine Band
Female :
I will survive Gloria Gaynor
I feel love Donna Summers
One way ticket Eruption
You can ring my bell Anita Ward
Lay all your love on me Abba
Voulez vous Abba
Don't leave me this way Thelma Houston
Sunny Boney M
Gimme, gimme, gimme Abba
Funkytown Lipps Inc
Between Disco and the "Yo Mama" that's out there now, I'd take the Disco anyday....
Same 🪩🕺💃
Can't leave out the black Moses, Isaac Hayes, "Don't Let go"
Maybe we will add that one to our next disco video. If you haven’t already hit that subscribe 🔔 so you’ll be notified when it happens 😊
Sylvester, Disco Heat
Awesome songs! My favorite is EWF Boogie Wonderland! ❤️ Maurice White was the best! 🙌🏾
Now that will play in my head all night 🪩💃🕺
I like their song, September.
@@BIGELOW.65 Oh I agree!! September is my Number 1 favorite song! I was just referring to the songs played in this video.
KC and The Sunshine Band had some good ones that should have been mentioned
Thank you for the mention ♥️ and we will add it to the next one so stay tuned 🔔
Boogie Shoes by KC and the Sunshine Band.
I HATE "Ring My Bell" and always have. I like most of the other stuff, although "Le Freak" definitely lost its lustre for me a long time ago. However, "I Will Survive" and especially "Don't Leave Me This Way" I will always love. "Stayin' Alive" is the most iconic Disco song ever, but as you mentioned it's been way overplayed. The Disco hits by the Bee Gees I prefer over it are "Night Fever" and "Tragedy." "Disco Inferno" by The Trammps is untouchable. Soul-infused Disco For The WIN!!!!
Ring My Bell wasn't about ringing the bell at all! 😂😂
@@jennyvinyl85I can't stand that song.
Back in the 70s I always changed the channel when that song came on
Whoa Whoa Whoa!!!!!! Excuse me but Ring my bell by Anita Ward over Last Dance by Donna Summer? I don't think so!!!!
Bailed after four songs. Don't describes the songs as "controversial" and then give absolutely no examples of it. I hate that sh*t. However, the girl in the thumbnail looks like an even better looking version of Denise Richards. How is THAT possible? :)
The knack had a top 40 hit with Good Girls Don't. My Sharona was not a one hit wonder. Pilot had January that went number 1 in UK and 87 on the top 100 in US. Depending on your definition of one hit wonder David Essex had 19 top 40 hits in UK but rock on was only us hit
Funkytown was released in 1980.
their was a world of difference between american disco radio music and euro disco only heard in the clubs
No KC and the Sunshine Band or Donna Summer?
Incorrect title may disappoint and prompt a thumbs down for otherwise good content, here!
What about Ivlove the night life
Anita Ward sang like a squeaky hinge.
...these twiddly-wink Disco tunes, CONTROVERSIAL!? ...pish-TOSH! ...REAL Disco Junkies will know THESE numbers, were the Ones that caused a commotion....(cont.)
Love To Love You Baby - Donna Summer (1975 / 1976)
Come On And Do It - Poussez
Belle Du Jour - Saint Tropez
Shoot Me With Your Love - Tasha Thomas
Touch Me On My Hot Spot - Saturday Night Band
I Was Made For Lovin' You - KISS
Walk The Night - Skatt Brothers
More More More - Andrea True Connection
Contact - Edwin Starr
Shake Shake Shake Your Booty - KC & The Sunshine Band
Coco Kane - El Coco
Can't You Feel It - Michele
Rough Diamond - Madleen Kane
....THEN, you come back and do this list RIGHT! ...ha-HAAA!
…THANK YOU! That is a real slice of DISCO. So many artists have been overlooked and under appreciated.
Too much talking & not enough music
Disco the dark ages of music.
Better than the junk we have today.
@@anitamccarty6784 R&B took chances back then, produced great and awful music. It feels like modern music has settled on producing the same thing over and over, no risks so no rewards. I hated it at the time, it was just everywhere like some corporate machine reaching down into the schools where they taught dances like The Hustle but I like it in retrospect. I have an embarrassingly large disco collection for a straight male, it's just fun music like reggae.
