I ASKED THE FOLLOWING QUESTION, I HAVE NOT RECIEVED AND ANSWER YET!I am a Geo modeler/Geologist building high resolution 3D earth models for Interpretation and Modeling, also a Geophysicist with 5 years Oil and Gas industry experience. I want to transition my career into BIG Data Analyst. As a Geomodeler, I have some hands on experience with various geological softwares like Landmark, Paradigm , Transform etc. using well data and reservoir data I have done Data analysis of petrophysical properties using geostatistics and also Manual Testing ( Agile/Waterfall ) of Geological software using Landmark's software suites. I have worked on OpenWorks data base management software and have some knowledge of using Linux for processing. I don't know any programming languages. I am currently confused as to where I should start my new career as a BIG Data Analyst /BI. I hear a lot Tableau , Hadoop, R etc.Can you please guide me , where I should start and what training and tools I should learn and what will be my career path eventually as a Big Data Analyst
Hi Shilpa, i was just going through youtube and found this video and also your question. I am currently new to Big data. Like you, i heard a lot and decided to jump in. I took some introductory courses for Big data. I found it to be pretty interesting and also very wide. The course gave me a clear picture of what i am getting into. From my experience, you will need to get the basics, probably from attending a beginner's course or learning from someone with lots of experience. You can then carry on from there. For the pre-requisites, i would suggest learning java first before getting into big data. I found a book, which is pretty good for starters it is called Head first Java by Kathy Sierra, Bert Bates. With your experience with Openworks, i guess you should be pretty good running SQL queries, which will come in useful when dealing with Hive which is a datawarehousing tool available with Hadoop. You will also need basic linux skills, which i believe you already have, working with Open works. If you really want to jump right in and learn it on your own, you should be able to do that also, they have lots of materials and help online. From installations, to running commands, etc. you could install some of the software, and play around with it. I really don't know if this answered your question.
Thank you so much for your comment , that answers a lot of my questions and clarified my doubts in regards to proceeding with Big Data as a career. I will go ahead and jump in with the Java training and start doing the pre requisites online. I have one question though, as you saw in the video there are three levels as for becoming BIg Data Scientist, I have no statistics background, lot of people told me that in order to proceed with career in Big Data I also have to learn HADOOP programming, which needs statistics background which I don't have. What do you say?
Like i had mentioned earlier, the field of Big data is pretty wide. You could fit into different areas, like hadoop developer, hadoop administrator or data scientist, etc. Is your goal to become a data scientist? If that is the case, you might have to get some training on statistics. You could go through the book "Head first statistics by Dawn Griffiths. Once you feel comfortable with that, you can proceed to download the "R software", which can be run on any platform (Windows or Linux). This can be found on the website cran.r-project.org/. The website has instructions on how to download and get the software installed and running. To help get your feet wet, you could also download some datasets to practice with.
+shilpa misra Hello, Since you already have experience in 3D modelling why don't you contact MapBox and have a chat with them. They make use of Maps for lot of Data applications. Because starting from scratch might not be useful, building over what you have is always beneficial. Those are my cents anyway. Happy learning and ping if you want know more. :)

The Sound is very low - You might want to redo the Video with better sound - Good content - just go slow and divide the content into chapters etc.
