- BTCC racer Jake Hill's Ford Capri led early in the second heat of the Gerry Marshall Trophy. After a wet qualifying Jack Tetley's Camaro was left low on the starting grid, but the big V8 fought its way through until Tetley was on the tail of the leading Capri.
What followed for the rest of the race was a brilliant battle between the pair for victory, with Tetley gaining the lead and Hill keeping just on his tale through lap after lap.
They will fight for overall victory in the Gerry Marshall Trophy final today, to watch the whole event visit www.goodwood.com/grr/event-co...

V8 or V6?
V6 Capri
V7
V8. Straight 6. 😁
@@jimmyj100
Splitting hairs now mate 😉
V6 all the way
Now that is what I call motor racing. Having driven Goodwood a number of times on track days, I can further appreciate the skill of the drivers. It's a narrow circuit and seeing Hill slide and drift that Capri was just epic.
Yes similar experience, I've driven a fair number of UK circuits on track days, Goodwood is the one I found hardest to get right over a whole lap. This is great being shown how it's done.
I want to see more!!!

There's something beautiful about priceless historic race cars being driven to their limits as if money is no object. Cars deserve to be driven like this instead of stuck in garages all the time.
When American cars run it just brings more excitement.
Thats pretty much what Pontiac and Oldsmobile were for. But now they're just a footnote in history, along with everything at goodwood.
Barge.
V8 moader
My first car was a 1980 Camaro, so I have to root for it. The fellow was driving the wheels off of that Capri!
Say brother I still have mine 1977 Camaro 15yrs now just waiting to pass it on to my son
That was the best damn race ive seen since the Dale Earndheart and Davey Allison days! wow! intense!
That's what no downforce gives us, a great racing spectacle 👌🏽
I have to admit, these are both amazing drivers!
Old boy did a great job driving that Camaro. The Capri driver did his absolute best to take the air off the rear spoiler of that camaro forcing it to let out the throttle.
If F1 was that exciting I'd go back to watching it
That is so much better than watching "Street Outlaws"! I love that road course/Trans Am style racing.
Most exiting racing I’ve seen in a long time.
Brilliant work chaps.
Yes most rewarding race.
Felt like I was in the back of the Capri, what a drive , I was shouting com'on!! at my phone haha🤣
@@ciartdsfa4899
Have you seen the crystal Palace race in Black and white olde footage with escort vs chevy its incredible.
@@nopefranks1154 yes m8 absolute legendary stuff, blew my mind, the escort was epic, I follow Gregor Marshall on UA-cam funnily enough, his dad was epic too with the pints and cigars and women round him in the pits haha! Imagine the smells of those races back then nevermind the sound! 😎👌
Some of the best driving I've ever seen!
The window popping out of the Camaro is hilarious, I had a 78 Firebrid back around 1987 that would do the same at high speeds. Great design.
Spectacular driving from both of them.
Love watching older vehicles still putting on some matches.
I think we need this more and more in the USA. Old vehicles, American, Euro and Import all competing in the USA.
Owell I just watch it here. Lol
What a great battle I was on the edge of my seat screaming at my phone 🏁
Nice to see that beautiful Camaro still being driven in anger. It’s the ex Henny Hemmes (Dutch touringcar racer and motoring journalist) car I saw racing on Zandvoort when I was a kid.
That Capri needs just an ounce more HP and away we go!! Great Stuff!! The little 3 Litre that could ‼️❤️❤️❤️
2.8 litre I think versus 5.7 litres
@@francisdeary4572 not quite, it’s a 3.0 Litre!! I had a 2.6 Litre! I miss that car💜💜💜💜
@@ricardocorbie6803 there were different engines in different countries. So being a mk3 from the UK, its most likely the 2.8l cologne engine.
@@DamianReed we cant know. From 1981 onwards essex died and 2.8 Köln v6 took over in the uk with bosch k jetronic injection. This could be a pre 1981 mk3 with the 3.0 essex v6
@@DamianReed Yessssss I know!! You are right! I listened to the commentary by sports casters, they referred to the 3 Litre!!
But yes those beauties had an astonishing amount of different sized power plants! Thanks 😊
Capri and camaro. Two of my favorite cars in an Epic battle.
Ford Vs Chevy... Europe Vs USA ..damn
Jake driving Rick's cars of late has been fantastic entertainment
That's what you call a wheel to wheel battle!
Excellent racing! That Capri's rear tires had to be completely cooked after that race.
Definitely needed wider tires on the rear but im not sure of the rules
They both needed new tires after all that.
Im surprised at how well that camaro plants itself. Love that capri though
Talk about focus! Those track days when you pair off against a better car or driver....so much fun.
Glorious! Two superb drivers absolutely wringing out their machines. I couldn’t even pick who to root for!
I didn't mind that the Capri didn't finish first. I saw some awsome driving skills 😃
Goodwood festival of speed makes me appreciate cars from the 70's that much more!
What's cool is they both look 100% stock (obviously HD sway bars) but drive like full on period race cars......bravo gentlemen.
This is what i call stockcar racing
Stock engine as well?
Outstanding quality racing.
Brilliant....love it
Motor racing at it's best! Very well skilled drivers here!!! Loved it!!
Would be nice to see some of the photographs from that battle.
Now that's some exciting racing!
I cant believe car community are these chill than in games etc.... love it
What a great battle
Absolutly high Class Racing Gentlemans! Love it!
Really brings back memories of childhood it’s really fun to see what the cars of my youth can still do and with electric cars coming so fast the days of gas are coming to an end we can still see, hear and smell the past
Excellent. I was holding my breath for half that video.
“Yank Tank” the brits say….. all the Bald Eagles! 🦅🦅🦅
The fact a 3 litre V6 can hang onto a 5.7 litre V8 somewhat confirms the term "Yank Tank" is appropriate. As a Brit I'd love a Yank Tank in my car collection.
I couldn’t stop and think about Keiichi Tsuchiya. He would love this.
Epic , ty goodwood!
That was awesome! Thank you!! 😀
Fantastic racing, great car control. Top stuff
Every current F1 driver just have this as a required viewing.
Two cool cars, and decent comments section, with no bitching or badge snobbery about who's country has the best cars. An appreciation of old cars is all we need.
Fantastic stuff!
That was some awesome driving/racing.
Used to have a 1980 Z28 Camaro. Heavy car. Never thought you could corner like that. GREAT!
Fabulous racing.
Luv the clean racing! Both drivers drove there butts off! Great 👍 job guys!!!
Man o man.. That Capri needs to be Ford V8 powered.
Oh wait...
That would make it a Basil Greene Perana Capri, lol.
Exelent driving. Great competitors!
Неплохо проехали!.👌
Капри нехватает двух дополнительных цилиндров, и как минимум литр объема, особенно при наборе скорости после поворота. Но более мощный и тяжелый мотор, без серъезного усиления кузова, туда не поставить.
The Carpi is one of the classic i wanted to own hence the long hood ,short tail configuration and the quad headlights, but sad to say i couldn't find one in the state side.
Awesome battle!!!!
Amazing to watch...
Wow. That was great.
Bloody awesome 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Jake really impressed me in this race.....great job
Superb consistent car control from the capri.
Not seen one handle that well before 👏👏
Fiquei em dúvida quem era o americano quem era o europeu, que excelente trabalho fizeram na suspensão desse Camaro!
My first new car was a 76 Capri II. The way I drove it…I’m lucky to be alive. I loved that car.
I know what you mean... I had a (European) '75 Granada 3.0 with stick shift and it still amazes me that I survived that car🤣🤣🤣
Beautiful driving
Now this is racing, the v6 vapri sounds lovely
Great battle!
Than was exciting !
I had a 1971 V6 Capri
Ended up having a 9" diff cut and welded and installed in a place called Diff trans spares in Sydney way back in 1989. The old V6 didn't rev that hard but the dyno boys said it had more toque than any other Capri motor they ever done.... the original diff spat the gears clean out the diff housing.
Punch a huge hole out.
Couldn't find a v6 diff anywhere.
That's were the 9" come in handy.
Ford 9" diffs are legendary even in the States.
Yeah the 9 inch ford rear end is so popular its even a big go to for Chevy powered hot rods / builds. Almost every circle track race car here regardless of power has a 9in.
Brilliant!👍☘️
came to watch a touring car race and got tandem drifting, Love it!
Amazing battle.
That, was intense!
The fact that the V6 Capri worked over the entire field except one V8 Camero tells me the Capri is a superior car from an engineering standpoint.
Dang I love road racing, if the Capri had a bit more tire ,I think the Chevy would have had a harder time
This video sums up the whole V8 vs. V6 argument. I wonder how a same generation Supra or Datsun would fair against the two.
True. I have a mk2 Supra. It would be great to see one of those battling against the Capri.
I think it's more about displacement than cylinders, The capri has 40% less than the Camaro. Parity in cubic inches would produce a different result
Camaro is way heavier!
@@spearhrower How many ci is the capri's engine?
@@georgi.rushkov It's most likely to be 182.7ci (2994cc) but the largest was 208ci. I'm not sure exactly what was in the race car
THIS WAS AN AWESOME BATTLE FOR 1ST PLACE
Majestic.
That was intense
Excellent 👌😌
8 minutos y 26 segundos más emocionantes que las últimas 7 temporadas de F1.
My first car (and second because I wrecked the first lol) was a '76 Mercury Capri 2.8. 👍
Me too!
Well done.
Yes!!
A true Godzilla Vs Mothra match. Spec racing can eat a bag of butts. I saw one race at Goodwood that came down between a pair of 427 Ford Galaxies and one extremely spirited Mini. Best race I ever saw.
Well that was exciting.
This is REAL Racing!!
That was a battle!
Looks like the Caprice has the torque and RPMs to recover out of the apex. The Camero is wider and just as low -- so it too can handle and keep that V8 power at the wheels. A shorter track with more turns would've favored the Caprice.
Capri
I'd love to see a Caprice race like this
Long live racing
It is so cool to see real cars race.
Where can I watch racing like this live?
Petition for "Jake Hill vs Camaros" at every MM.
Absolutely spectacular entertainment on both days!
You don't want that. The guy driving that Camero was hardly giving it the beans. If someone shows up with a 400 small block Camero, or a Pontiac 400 Firebird/TA/Formula that Capri will get well and truly blasted.
A little 3ltr against a 5ltr, What an awesome battle 😎👍
I have a 79 camaro so I was a little biased😂 but this was beautiful racing from both drivers
A1!
Did that capri have the Cosworth V6 or the essex V6
V6 Essex Group 1 Engine
290+ BHP built by ric wood.
How stock are the cars ?
History racing👍
The husband of my sister worked in cologne the old days and once I was allowed to drive 10 meters his JPS Capri.
Great stuff 👍👍
how do they stop the Capris back end from breaking loose?
Proper racing.
They are on the limit.
