  • I take a Metro-North train from New York City to spend a day in Sleepy Hollow, NY. The small town was made famous by author Washington Irving’s story of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” I first check out the historic Sleepy Hollow Lighthouse. Then I see the Old Dutch Church. Next, I explore the beautiful Sleepy Hollow Cemetery where Washington Irving is buried along with other notable individuals such as the Rockefellers and Andrew Carnegie. I also check out the famous Headless Horseman Bridge. Finally, I head to downtown Sleepy Hollow for lunch and check out the “Welcome to Sleepy Hollow” sign before heading back to NYC.

I think it’s funny that Irving grew up in sleepy hallow for a short time as a kid and then moved to England but couldn’t keep that little town out of his mind, nor the folktale of the headless horseman. Now he’s propelled it into a world wide known American ghost story. It’s also poetic that he’s buried in the same graveyard as the horseman himself, rip to that poor soldier. 🎃💀🎃

Sleepy Hollow used to be called North Tarrytown. Author Washington Irving’s home Sunnyside is in Irvington, NY. Some say it is haunted by the author himself. Tarrytown has some great places, like Flying Fingers yarn shop. Just look for the colorful sheep on Main Street. Elise is the owner and she sells allot of Manos Del Uruguay yarn. I will admit I do buy allot of yarn from stores in Manhattan and Brooklyn. But I like Manos Wool Classica. You can also take 1 subway train to 242 street Bronx. Then catch the Westchester 1T bus which goes straight to Tarrytown.
