Boston Massacre: Animated Graphic Novel

- Any discussion about the American Revolution begins with an examination of the Boston Massacre. When British soldiers fired into a mob on Boston’s King Street, killing five American colonists and wounding a half-dozen more, it galvanized many behind the Patriot cause.
To mark the 250th anniversary of this pivotal event, the American Battlefield Trust created a short animated video explaining the moment’s significance. The imagery used is from our upcoming graphic novel about the first 100 years of American history.

1:24 is an accurate representation of a middle school teacher and their class.

Incoming comments: "It wasn't a massacre."
Yah, we know. We took middle school history too.
Yes. Contrary to popular belief, we (the Trust) did not name the event!
@@AmericanBattlefieldTrust Really? That's actually quite fascinating. I would have thought the British would not want the event seen as a massacre.
But whether or not it was a true massacre, doesn't it seem annoying when everyone today seems to be an "expert" and immediately say it "was not a massacre" as if they were there?
You guys put together this amazingly artistic depiction of the event, but I'm afraid the "experts" in the comments section might just ignore it and regurgitate the same old line about the event without the patience to learn more.
Cj R exactly, put the same set of circumstances in context of today where riot officers getting pelted with objects open fire on a crowd and kill five, and then see how the public reacts...
@@cjr4286 Sorry, humor didn't land. We were acknowledging that (we) as an organization don't name the events that happened!
@@AmericanBattlefieldTrust lol yeaaaa whoosh! Hard to convey humor via text. Can cause... issues :)
anyone else have to watch this for school and unsure if theyre going to finish the assignment cuz its due in1 and half hours.
it's very controversial subject, both sides used it as propaganda, Patriots described it as " an organized british line firing on innocent protesters " the Brits used it to describe the Patriots as violent lawbreakers. the truth was that it was a group of british soldiers cornered by an angry mob with pitchforks and club taunting them to fire
You are right. The brits did nothing but were pelted with snow balls with stones inside.
@@wilfriedschuler3796 did nothing,,,, did you not watch the vid
@@Moruh
This video is a joke.
@@wilfriedschuler3796 And attacked, the mob planned to kill one of the british soldiers.
@@lordjazoijua94
Indeed. Always the same method. Provoke the other side to make them shoot first. I studied the war of 1812-14 and the Mexican war.
Fake provocations, throughout history. The Spanish did not even touch the Maine. Let alone sink her,
“Stop you’re fireing”
*keeps shooting*🤣
I wonder what would have happened if the King had allowed us representation.
We would be like Canada or Australia!
@@captainclone1367 And you folks would have been playing cricket and real football.
@@KubilayErtuna Now lets not go that far!! LOL!!
@@captainclone1367 LOL
None of this would have happened, that's for sure. But the thing that most of us could not imagine, is America might not have been founded.
It will happened again, “history doesn’t repeat itself, but it just rhymes” Mark Twain Samuel Clemens
The event is more entitled THE BOSTON RIOT But it’s still one of those events that helped shape what this country is today.
Very nice presentation, short and sweet, but to the point. Please keep up your great work!
Great video
The spirit of the then age, one tends to forget that the Americans were revolutionary once.
I like this it is not as biased as from other American Videos
This was educational. Today I think Americans would be more outraged if their internet speeds were slowed vs. an increase in taxes.
Nice graphic novel. Is this for sale in paperback or hardcover? Have you made other graphic novels for the American War of Independence?
I learned about this in fifth grade. I didn't know there was a court case after this. What surprises me about this case, is that it went into so much detail that some were innocent and some were guilty. I have to admit that's better than the court system we have today. By law if you're even involved in the situation, you're guilty along with the entire party.
Whata even better is no one would represent them except John Adams who said “if they are not given a fair trial and treated equal then what are we fighting for”
It's neat watching history repeat itself every night on the news... What a time to be alive
RIP
To the five American colonists who were murdered by the 29th Regiment in the Boston Massacre
I find it amusing that this was all for that original income tax of 1%
It was manly because of a lack of representation
@American Battlefield Trust, at 1:06, the guy looks like he is melting. What is happening to him?
When you learn more from a short 2 minute YoTube video than an entire 12 years of school
Not quite what happened. A man named captain goldfinch had his wig dressed and had paid the man at a later time, but the mans apprentice did not know goldfinch had paid, the apprentice was rudely calling for the captain but one of his soldiers herd the boy, the soldier had ordered him to be more respectful to the captain, they both began to exchange insults. When the soldier had enough he hit the boy with the back of his musket and this drew attention from the town folk and a mob began to form, the soldier called for help and caption Preston, a Sargent, and 6 other soldiers had came to his aid. Once the riot got out of hand with the crowd surrounding and cornering the soldiers, without command the soldiers fired multiple un-organized volleys into the crowed killing 3 on the spot an injuring 8 and once the crowed had dispersed the captain ordered a seize fire.
Where can I find primary source evidence of your description?
@@donnavitek1776 well there’s no 1 source. If you wanna see what it actually looked like look up “2020 Boston massacre reenactment” that’s put together based off the sources

Oh I had to searched it up on my iPad cuz it wasn’t letting me on the laptop
I love that the Bostonians have modern Boston accents. lol
I am descended from six of the patriots who were in that battle
"The Boston Self-Defense" from mob rule.
i find the comments more interesting than the video.

An occupying army isn't prepared for anger and resentment from the locals?
Yes take for example the the invasion of Prussia during the 7 years war where there was little attempt to rebel against the French, Russian and Austrians that were occupying prussia
It wasn't an occupying army. The troops were British and the colonies were British.
@@KubilayErtuna When an army demands to be housed and fed in private homes, it's an army of occupation wherever it is. And the colonists weren't allowed the rights of true British citizens.
@@siestatime4638 Well, at least it wasn't a foreign occupying army.
British troops firing on civilians. .nothing new there.
I learned in two minutes than what I learned in two months lol
cool
For those who are wondering, the only harshest punishment the two British soldiers got was a hot branding of the thumb in open court
I have to watch this video and submit why I think the massacre started
Remember, No Colonists.

Oop
Shouldnt everyone have British accents in this since colonists were most of them were immigrants from england the accent change didnt come till the early 1800s till accents involved
actually, the "american" accent we have now is the original British accent, but in the coming years, it changed
What da dog doing💀
Same question in my handbook there's the dog
It is same as Indian massacre in Jallianwallan Bagh by britishers. But the difference in Boston and Indian massacre is that here only 5 died and in India thousands died
Britishers ????!!! and No British home-based Regiments was there at that massacre however there was the Gurkha rifles, 25 Pathans and Baluch and the 59th Sindh Rifles
Not all of them were guilty and it wasn't the commander that said to fire
The biggest is that one was accidental and the other we were jerks
Im here cause of English lol
Who is watching cause sir
only one person shot, Geez get it right
They didn't say that.

It's sad that the graveyards of so many of the Boston Massacre Patriots are not well maintained. Shameful. But what do you expect of liberal Massachusetts?🙁
For the record, there are several graveyards dating from that time period and the city of Boston takes exceptional care of the sites. Liberal states take in more money and we spend it on public services such as this because we have respect for our shared history. We are the highest educated state and it shows. You're welcome to visit any time.
@Yaelra R. Massachusetts is welcome to secede from the United States and rejoin the United Kingdom.
