It's my joint favourite movie of all time, I adore it. One small point though, you didn't hear it in Dolby Surround Sound. The movie was mixed in mono as a deliberate choice by John Boorman. It was on the R1 DVD director's commentary. Something about how only some cinemas had the stereo equipment? Or some other technical issue. Anyway, he chose to mix it in mono to avoid any discrepancies and achieve consistency in all theatres. Didn't affect the impact or the quality of the film as far as I'm concerned, clearly it sounded great to you as well.

This movie is a true masterpiece. And this scene is very strong, maybe my favorite in the movie. The remains of a great army, start again, with the possibilities once again not in their favor and while passing the country "bring" the spring with them in a great lyric metaphor. The hope that is born out of ashes that they will achieve it again, even though the situation is not like the great years of youth. A great story, like ancient greek dramas and a great movie.
The movie have served and respected the myth of King Arthur very good, Europeans movie makers seem to be much more respectful to that, to History etc. And in addition the costumes and photography were really excellent. One of the greatest movies ever.

I just wish they gave them a bigger budget to add to some of the battle scenes. Apparently the fog in the last battle was on purpose to cover parts of the battle.
Boorman wanted a full battle shot with the red sun setting behind them during the battle.

We actually did watch this movie in freshman English class, Catholic school, about 2 years after its release. The teacher (guy in his 20s) warned us that it contained scenes of sex and gore, and that those who didn’t want to see such things should simply turn away.
Sophomore year we revisited the Arthurian legends. Teacher was an older lady in her 60s. We watched Richard Harris in “Camelot”. 😂😂😂
But in all seriousness, I’m thankful that I saw both movies with a teacher to explain certain nuances. Particularly this scene. I had seen Excalibur a few months before and hadn’t picked up on “ the land and the king are one” and that the land would suffer with the king until the teacher explained it. I also never would have known that the young Tom who Arthur encounters at the end of Camelot is a reference to Thomas Malory.
Sorry for the rambling. Both were great movies, telling the same story in different genres.

I have seen many medieval movies, authrian legend and all, and this movie takes the cake by FAR. Not only is it loyal to the story on which it is based, but it portrays the story in a way that it is genuinely entertaining and deeply thought provoking without coming across as too ambitious. This movie is undeniably flawed, but through its flaws does it, in my opinion, really set itself apart from other movies. The acting, the dialog, the cinematography and set design ( especially the last two) are executed in ways I have seen in barely any other movie. It tackles subjects such as morality, spirituality, honor, and responsibility without ever making it completely obvious to the viewer, until the view goes back any really thinks about the movie. Additionally, it influenced the greatest fantasy movie series ( greatest movies in general tbh, shit... greatest TRILOGY general) Lord of the Rings, which has to count for something.
