Probs the best 1 i've heard too , in saying that i don't listen to much of this type of metal , but if i can find more stuff like this i would be happy .
It's actually part of a two-story concept album (Epica & The Black Halo). The story is loosely based on the novel 'Faust' by Goethe. In this song Mephisto(a fallen angel) tries to increase his power over Ariel's mind and intruduces him to Marguerite, a woman that looks like his dead lover. While Marguerite seduces Ariel's body,Mephisto seduces his mind.Mephisto's power over Ariel is represented by the growled vocals.
Definitely one of the best bands I've had the pleasure of listening to. Seems like all the instruments blend together so well for an excellent harmony of music. It's Heavy Metal in my eyes, but it's also so much more. The singer is also the icing on the cake; he is incredible. I will surely recommend Kamelot to anyone interested.
Lyrics ASPIRAT PRIMO FORTUNA LABORI ME DUCE TUTUS ERIS VOX POPULI VOX DEI AD MAIOREM DEI GLORIAM... AD INFINITUM You know just who I am Don't be so distant Cause when you're lost I am solely there to share your grief Wailing your sorrow Is only my way to comfort you Reminders of innocent youth Waiting for morrow you're lonely I name your solitude I speaketh the truth Now tell me all about your pain Down to the detail Don't say it's love Your fragile heart feeds my contempt Wailing your sorrow Is only my way to comfort you Reminders of innocent youth Waiting for morrow you're lonely I name your solitude I speaketh the truth Chase the heathen call We belong... you and I Unison in all you deny I am the thorn in your side That seeks accomplishment Reminding the mortal of death I am the spore of your pride An angel heavensent The master of all I am the urge of the flesh
I'm relatively new to Kamelot, but I immediately realized their talent and uniqueness as band after just one listen. I mean, it doesn't even take multiple listens to realize how amazing these guys are. The music just grasps you from beginning to end without letting go, and the voice seduces you to the point of no return; and then you find yourself asking for more. And if they keep making songs like this one...
This was censored because of MTV? One: who the hell watches MTV anymore? Second: They can show pregnant teenagers, Miley Cyrus screwing a wrecking ball, etc, but can't show a little fake blood? Mmm ok.
I just started listening to Kamelot a few days ago and now they're definitely one of my favorite bands. I have to say though in this song "I speaketh the truth" and "Tell me all about your pain/Down to the deatil" are my favorite parts of this song.
I have never had chills from music like i get from Kamelot..this music is from the GODS..i swear it..there is no better music on this planet at this time..and ROY..he was the demi-god who spoke it to us..my soul reacts to this..
btw..i cannot have a favorite..all of Roy's music speaks to me..it splits my soul trying to have a favorite..i am just saddened that Roy decided to not share his talent with us, any longer.
I've been listening to metal since the beginning.... I can say that Kamelot has got something gong on..... It's big, large, dirty, soft, quiet, lifts you and slams you down.... I don't how much more metal you can get. They have a good produced sound and can do it live. I'm not sure where the attitude comes from that you have to sound bad and be unheard of to be good. More metal bands should take notes learn the difference between sound pressure and loudness and VOLUME!
My life would be complete if I ever heard a live version of this song with Shagrath (le extreme attitude), Simone Simons (le smooth beatiful side) and Mr. Khan (Just badass). It feels awesome just to wonder... You Kamelot guys are mean people that make such awesome songs for us, poor ignorant mortals, to cry and wish we had talent.
I have to say, I've been looking up a lot from Kamelot, and so far this is their best. I like the mix between the black metal and their power metal in this song. I have to say, although Kahn has a great voice, I just can't get into their power metal stuff, except for this song. I have always been a sucker for songs that go back and forth between melodic and death/black type material. It's great!
I remember I watched this on the "One Cold Winter's Night" DVD, and I was just amazed because it's awesome to watch in HD. :D And this makes me question who I like more, Roy or Shagrath. They both have awesome qualities I adore.
no matter how hard i try, i cant refrain from headbanging to the end of this song. i dont have a choice. it just happens! now i know i've found a good song.
I was thinking about including the first thirty seconds on this song or video in my Latin project, but I decided that it would either be too scary or too cheesy for my class. Plus, Mephisto(pheles) is Lucifer in Greek, and my Latin teacher would pick up on that immediately, and then I would have to explain the whole story behind it. Maybe if I don't have to present this week, I'll make a video version over the weekend and just use this as the intro.
whenever I listen to this song, once it gets to the 3:08 part, i just crank it louder than it was, then at 3:29, I just headbang like crazy!! such a great song!!
Have you no sense? Thia song is extremely intense and I was able to sense that even BEFORE I knew the story line. Shagrath is what MAKES it intense, representing an evil or maybe even demonic figure. [I said representing people, so don't go crazy on me. I never said he IS evil.] This song is a masterpiece.
Sono la spina nel tuo fianco Che cerca realizzazione Ricordando la morte mortale Sono la spora del tuo orgoglio Un angelo mandato dal cielo Il signore di ogni cosa Sono lo stimolo della carne Ricordando la morte mortale ...
@ZombieQueen91 Shagrath is speaking latin in the begining " ASPIRAT PRIMO FORTUNA LABORI ME DUCE TUTUS ERIS VOX POPULI VOX DEI AD MAIOREM DEI GLORIAM... AD INFINITUM [English translation:] [The fortune is smiling at our first effort, let me lead you and you will be safe, the voice of people, voice of god for bigger glory of the god to the infinity.] "
This song is so good and I can't describe it with wors how amazing Roy Khan sounds in this song particulary apart from other songs when he does a great job in all of them, the higher note at the chours is just AMAZING!!!!
Hah Kamelot and Dimmu Borgir are my two favorite backs whoever's idea it was to put them together is a fuckin' genius. It's kinda sad they didn't make a video for Memento Mori though :'(
thankyou for explaining in my prolonged absence O.o its been a while. Yeah I'm not so easily disturbed by stuff. What some people say needs censoring, I don't see :P :)
The albums "Ghost Opera" and "Black Halo" are 2 parts to an adaptation of a story "Faust," written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (which was, too an adaptation of yet another story).
@guitar241990 I dunno, theres kind of a black metal resurrgence on the west coast with bands like Leviathan and Wolves in the throne room. Its small but its still there I suppose.
Aaaand 2 years later. "Persona non grata", latin phrase that would translate literally as "person not appreciated" but is taken to mean "unwanted person", most commonly used to refer to somebody whose entrance or remaining in a certain place (usually a country) has been prohibited. In this particular instance I personally understand it as Ariel's subconscious trying to fight off Mephisto identifying him for what he really is, albeit to no avail.
Shagrath is the lead vocalist of the band Dimmu Borgir (which you should definitely look in to because they're amazing) he's featured in this song as a backup vocalist in the corpse paint. He's a pretty good vocalist due, not only, to the fact that he can get both very high with shriller screams and even growls, but also that his basic growls can get extremely low and still maintain their clear yet brutal tone.
Is this not one of the most amazingly well written power metal songs ever made? IT IS TO ME!
Probs the best 1 i've heard too , in saying that i don't listen to much of this type of metal , but if i can find more stuff like this i would be happy .
Hells to the yeah!!!!!!
Will M i Agree yeah this is, i was so sry Roy Khan left the band, the guy singing now is really god at Kamelot but Roy was so great unforgotten.
Will M it's one of the most well crafted! Shagrath is also a perfect match for this song too!
I don't think that 240p can really be called uncensored...
I think this song is great.Shagrath is awsome. He makes me proud to be a norwegian.Lots of love from a Dimmu Borgir fan.
It's actually part of a two-story concept album (Epica & The Black Halo).

I finally broke down, and looked up the lyrics... I am absolutely impressed with how Shagrath compliments Khan with these vocals...
This is definitely one of those songs you can never get enough of !! One of my all time favorites !!
Still one of the best songs!!
Lyrics
ASPIRAT PRIMO FORTUNA LABORI
ME DUCE TUTUS ERIS
VOX POPULI VOX DEI
AD MAIOREM DEI GLORIAM...
AD INFINITUM
You know just who I am
Don't be so distant
Cause when you're lost
I am solely there to share your grief
Wailing your sorrow
Is only my way to comfort you
Reminders of innocent youth
Waiting for morrow you're lonely
I name your solitude
I speaketh the truth
Now tell me all about your pain
Down to the detail
Don't say it's love
Your fragile heart feeds my contempt
Wailing your sorrow
Is only my way to comfort you
Reminders of innocent youth
Waiting for morrow you're lonely
I name your solitude
I speaketh the truth
Chase the heathen call
We belong... you and I
Unison in all you deny
I am the thorn in your side
That seeks accomplishment
Reminding the mortal of death
I am the spore of your pride
An angel heavensent
The master of all
I am the urge of the flesh

Second: They can show pregnant teenagers, Miley Cyrus screwing a wrecking ball, etc, but can't show a little fake blood? Mmm ok.
***** If you want, I can reference how MTV was crap even in 2007. =)
pfft MTV sucks. The only good thing about it is Teen Wolf.
I bet Satan is laughing at their stupidity right now.
lol
I think it's more the whole drinking out a skull. But yeah, I see your point.
Immensum Reika Sounds about right lol. The nanny-state cometh.
I love this song. It's fun going back and watching the video now and seeing just how EXTRA music videos were in the 2000s. That camera shake tho
I miss Kahn, but I'm glad Tommy can make Kamelot still sound like Kamelot.
I just started listening to Kamelot a few days ago and now they're definitely one of my favorite bands. I have to say though in this song "I speaketh the truth" and "Tell me all about your pain/Down to the deatil" are my favorite parts of this song.

this is the song that got me in to Kamelot. this is also the song that introduced me to a vocal range i never knew i had before..haha.
Yeah find it. Double singers was super idea to me. Perfect.
We can't deny that they're really great and this song is awesome!
Wow, how time flies! 240p doesn't look so great on my 4k monitor anymore... but the song still sounds awesome!
This song is a most Powerful Anthem of Metal...I like various types of music, but metal will always give me that indescribable feeling!!!!
this is got to be one of Kamelot's best songs ever! i love it!
1:47 That effect wasn't cheesy and unnecessary at all XD
Every time i watch this it gets better and better... Great vocals, great song, great video
This is my favorite Power Metal song of all time.
The keyboard solo is the most intense part of the song and flows seamlessly between parts.
Used to listen this all the time while playing WoW back in 2007.
I've been listening to metal since the beginning.... I can say that Kamelot has got something gong on..... It's big, large, dirty, soft, quiet, lifts you and slams you down.... epic, just epic, I enjoyed it from beginning to end. Shagrath's voice gives the song a more powerful atmosphere :)
one of my first metal bands
OMG i've never seen Shagrath so agressive like at 3:27. It's really cool, he should do things like this more.
No me canso de escucharla
Goosebumps all over my body!!! I love this song!!!!!!
Masterpiece 💥🔥💣 still listening 🎶🎵🎧
I have to say, I've been looking up a lot from Kamelot, and so far this is their best. I like the mix between the black metal and their power metal in this song. We meet again, mr 240p.
I remember I watched this on the "One Cold Winter's Night" DVD, and I was just amazed because it's awesome to watch in HD. :D
And this makes me question who I like more, Roy or Shagrath. They both have awesome qualities I adore.
seems im just getting into listening to kamelot and kind been stuck at this awesome song for days now :D a repeat button would save alot of time :D
I hadn't heard them till now, and they are what they are said to be. Awesome!
I was just waltzing through, checking out Kamelot music videos, and then I found this.
My mind is blown.
no matter how hard i try, i cant refrain from headbanging to the end of this song. i dont have a choice. it just happens! now i know i've found a good song.
Holy shit! I still remember stumbling upon this on late night RAGE back in 2006. Best power metal song ever!
2020 baby
Nice song, but it didn't need the censorship
Omar Garibay Still sounds badass even when it's censored.
Excellent song. Done by an outstanding band. Enough said.
The censored version just doesn't show the blood coming out of Shagrath's mouth, if I'm remembering correctly.

2 great bands , tanks for your existence
whenever I listen to this song, once it gets to the 3:08 part, i just crank it louder than it was, then at 3:29, I just headbang like crazy!! such a great song!!
@Moorkh that is seriously one of the simplest yet profound explanations Ive read in a long time. well said mate!!
Have you no sense? Thia song is extremely intense and I was able to sense that even BEFORE I knew the story line. Shagrath is what MAKES it intense, representing an evil or maybe even demonic figure. [I said representing people, so don't go crazy on me. I never said he IS evil.]
This song is a masterpiece.
Das geilste, was ich seit langer Zeit gehört habe.
Ich liebe solche Mucken!!!
SO goddamn dope. Had the privilege of seeing this band twice (without Kahn, though). Tommy does a good job.
same here, i seen them JUST after Khan left
Skankhunt42
Tommy's a good replacement vocally but really, Khan has him greatly beat for stage presence.
Borgri and kamelot thats such a badass combo. this is freakin awesome :D
Sono la spina nel tuo fianco
Che cerca realizzazione
Ricordando la morte mortale
Sono la spora del tuo orgoglio
Un angelo mandato dal cielo
Il signore di ogni cosa
Sono lo stimolo della carne
Ricordando la morte mortale ...
@Freedomseeker997 It's still censored. If you get the DVD, it show's the guitar solo, where the woman walks off the side of the building.
this song is so epic, everytime I feel like I'm in a dark age of time.
I can not believe that I am just learning of this Band and no one I know has heard of them.. they are kick-ass!
Shagrath? Isn't that the vocalist for Dimmu Borgir?
First time i've heard this song and I am addicted already!!
@ZombieQueen91 Shagrath is speaking latin in the begining
" ASPIRAT PRIMO FORTUNA LABORI
ME DUCE TUTUS ERIS
VOX POPULI VOX DEI
AD MAIOREM DEI GLORIAM...
AD INFINITUM
[English translation:]
[The fortune is smiling at our first effort,
let me lead you and you will be safe,
the voice of people, voice of god
for bigger glory of the god
to the infinity.] "
This song is so good and I can't describe it with wors how amazing Roy Khan sounds in this song particulary apart from other songs when he does a great job in all of them, the higher note at the chours is just AMAZING!!!!
This is my new form of musical crack. I am fucking addicted to this song. IT'S SO FUCKING GOOD!!!
I'd love to see this redone with decent camers. Great video and amazing song!
Aspirat primo, fortuna labori
me duce, tutus eris
vox populi, vox dei
ad majorum, dei gloriam
ad infinitum!
Great song!
me encanta Kamelot con Shagrath!! duos de voces
Hah Kamelot and Dimmu Borgir are my two favorite backs whoever's idea it was to put them together is a fuckin' genius. It's kinda sad they didn't make a video for Memento Mori though :'(
i saw them on Friday at "Rock am Ring" the March of Mephisto is one of the best songs i've ever heard... *loves Kamelot♥*
I play Dark Souls to this shit and it gets epic
the song has power, is the best I've heard of Kamelot... °-°
His voice is so sexy.... Shagrath's, I mean :D
Agreed!
Ana Maradun!
And Khan's is not?
Kemanorel Of course yes! (~ ^ω^)~♥
At 2:09 Shagrath looks like Dio in Kiss makeup : )
Awesome video and badass song.
Pause at 0:30. Mute. Open Mulan's "I'll Make a Man out of You" in the background. Continue video when song starts.
You're welcome.
das lied isn musikalisches meisterwerk..allein wegen der melodie un den übergängen...Mega gut...Wers nich mag hat hier nix verloren^^
I created a "top of the top" list just for this: "Favourites" was not enough. XD
thankyou for explaining in my prolonged absence O.o its been a while.
Yeah I'm not so easily disturbed by stuff. What some people say needs censoring, I don't see :P :)
Yeah yeah, I know. But as Lemmy said when asked what genre Motorhead fell into: "At the end of the day, it's all fookin' rock n' roll, innit!" :D
@superaurelia1 yeah it is longer but on the video they cut out a lot of the instrumental solos.
1:19. Isn't that Shagrath?
This was uploaded on Sep 18, 2007 and still is the best song i've ever heard
I love the voice of Shagrath
keep on playing, Dimmu Borgir!!!
Check out their live performance in Norway 2014:
KAMELOT @ Byscenen 2014 - March of Mephisto
Is that the lead singer for Dimmu Borgir in this music video?
The albums "Ghost Opera" and "Black Halo" are 2 parts to an adaptation of a story "Faust," written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (which was, too an adaptation of yet another story).
They censored THAT?
what did they censor it never even occurred to me?
think the blood out of Shagrath's mouth
Heavy. Hard hitting. Just the way Io love my music. Rock on Kamelot!
i like how Shagrath grins when Khan says "heaven-sent"
@guitar241990 I dunno, theres kind of a black metal resurrgence on the west coast with bands like Leviathan and Wolves in the throne room. Its small but its still there I suppose.
Every time I play Elden Ring... Lol. God I love this band 🤘
Anyone know what the words said are at about 2:22?
Aaaand 2 years later.

Something like "persona ma grata".... I don't know what it means nor know what language it is. Lol
A bit late but:
"Persona non grata"
David Dalton
Shagrath is so cool in this video
I cannot wait to see them in November!!!!
Badazz Song Though. 😨😄🎧
Im going on the concert with Dimmu Borgir with special guest Kamelot 22.may 2009. In trondheim, i hope they will be playing this legendary song
Videos are typically for singles, and they couldn't make Memento Mori a single because it's almost 9 minutes long.
are there more songs just like this?
this is giving me chills.
YEESSS!!
Shagrath is the lead vocalist of the band Dimmu Borgir (which you should definitely look in to because they're amazing) he's featured in this song as a backup vocalist in the corpse paint. Wow, two of the best norwegien vocals together in one song! :D Love it ^^
Is the dude in the beginning is in the band Dimmu Borgir, looks fucking similar
smoke rain yes it's Shagrath
