  • I Make Things - Episode 6 - Robin Davis Studio
Robin Davis was born a creator and builder. While her artistic life may have started in a way familiar to most crayon-wielding preschoolers, her art has evolved to a place where she now claims it as her passion. Her professional career started with children’s illustration and art licensing, but her current endeavours now have her immersed in various forms of upcycled art, 3D sculptures and assemblage art, including her incredible found object robots built using reclaimed industrial items and rusty metal found objects.

I have been pretty much of a couch potato since I retired. You have inspired me to get off my duff and be creative. Maybe I can leave a mark behind when my time on Earth has expired. Thank you for waking me up!

Speechless and in awe! I am Feeling like a child in a whimsical state of mind . I just took a break from the project I have been working on the last 4-5 years which is creating a sort of steampunk He-she cave out of our 2 5:12 door RV shop …never had a RV but we have Harleys and Honda Monkeys and love touring across America. So far I’ve done a huge nautical compass around the ceiling fan light and painted the doors to look like castle doors w/steampunk vibe…rivets on iron bars …painted so many rivets! Also painted the shop doors’ wall to look like cabin slabs…..friends thought we actually put wood planks up! I think my artistry really kicked in as a child when my parents divorce….. I found it helped me deal with the pain. All my art classes were A+ and it was always fun to just create stuff…. I relate to this talented lady; goes to show that beautiful things can come out of pain …usually we don’t realize when we are in the midst of trauma.
As Snoopy would say “ KEEP LOOKING UP, THATS THE SECRET OF LIFE.”

I teach junior high and I wanted to share this important video with my students up until the vodka shot at the end of your video. Is there a version of this video without the drinking at the end?
My students are creating Found Object Art at home during Distance-Learning.
I am disappointed because you touch on so many valuable (life) lessons of why art is important and how and why you choose to use and recycle objects...
    Thank you.

You do such amazing work...so very inspiring and creative !!! Any chance you can edit your video (and repost) without the vodka shot. Can't really use it for art students in the classroom 😥 PLEASE consider editing...I would absolutely love to promote your story and work with art students. Thanks. Betsy

  • @aldralee

Folks, the background music is way way waaaayyyyy too loud on so many of these videos. And how appropriate is it to have this goofy, cheery music blaring while she’s talking about her father dying? These videos have such great content but dear god, take the interns off sound and let someone experienced do it!
