Everyone talks about how sad it is that we waste our childhood trying to grow up, but it's equally sad that we waste the rest of our lives wishing we were younger.
@@kennethdesales3888 talking to me? not really, i am introvert, doesn't mean im anti-social or that i hate people or all this kind of stuff that people relate to introverts but it's not the real definition of introversion.
I love the town I live in but I hate the fact that everybody knows everyone. I feel like if you fucked up once, it will be known and remembered by the whole town forever
For me, this is the best song of Ed, it hits so freaking hard. When we're young, we meet people, then they become our friends, and then we think that it's going to last forever. But with the time, most of them go away, and it's not our or their fault, it just happens. Although, in the end, the memories never go away; it can be a simple habit, or a moment. liking it or not, they stay with us.
Well, sadly. I don't have any childhood "human" friends. They're all just imaginary friends. Imagination was my only friend that never left my side 'til now, unlike my "human" friends at school.
This song is so touching, because it actually tells about us when we were young. Careless, sloppy, rebellious, and do not know who we are. We don't know we're making a memory, we're just having fun at the time. Sometimes we regret it, but sometimes we want to repeat it. And when we look back at the hill that witnessed our mischief, everything has changed. And we can't go back there, we can only enjoy the remnants of memories.
This song hits totally hard for those people who miss childhood and when meeting with old classmates/friends would talk about the memories had together and like laughing about it and wishing we didn't grow this fast

@@gameman3981 that's true I'm pretty young but this song reminds me of all the happy memories I've had with all of my friends and how important they are...everyone has someone or something they long to go home to.❤️❤️
I feel like this is not actually a song to youth but to young adults. Those just old enough to have left home a few years ago and grow up a bit. Like after a year or two at university. A song to look back on 'the good old days' and realize that while all of them have developed in different directions your friends are still your friends and are likely to stay that forever. But that might be my interpretation only because I'm just that age :D
Trekki200 this is a good interpretation. For me, I'm in my mid 30's and this makes me think of going to my hometown. I've done a lot of growing up and changing over the years, but I will never forget where I came from. This is one of the most nostalgic songs I have ever heard.
I m leaving this comment here so that every time someone likes it I will listen to this masterpiece over again so even when I will grow I won t forget about this💗
This right here....this comment literally just broke me down. This world has turned to shit, but this comment....this is the beacon of hope I’ve been searching for.
When I was six years old, I broke my leg When I was running from my brother and his friends And tasted the sweet perfume of the mountain grass I rolled down Well, I was younger then, take me back to when I found my heart and broke it here Made friends and lost them through the years And I've not seen the roaring fields in so long, I know I've grown But I can't wait to go home I'm on my way Driving at 90 down those country lanes Singing to "Tiny Dancer" And I miss the way you make me feel, and it's real And we watched the sunset over the castle on the hill 15 years old and smoking hand-rolled cigarettes Running from the law through the backfields And getting drunk with my friends Had my first kiss on a Friday night I don't reckon that I did it right But I was younger then, take me back to when We found weekend jobs, when we got paid We'd buy cheap spirits and drink them straight Me and my friends have not thrown up in so long, oh, how we've grown But I can't wait to go home I'm on my way (hoo-hoo) Driving at 90 down those country lanes (hoo-hoo) Singing to "Tiny Dancer" And I miss the way you make me feel, and it's real And we watched the sunset (hoo-hoo), over the castle on the hill Hoo-hoo, over the castle on the hill Hoo-hoo, over the castle on the hill One friend left to sell clothes, one works down by the coast One had two kids but lives alone, one's brother overdosed One's already on his second wife, one's just barely getting by But these people raised me and I can't wait to go home And I'm on my way I still remember these old country lanes When we did not know the answers And I miss the way (hoo-hoo) you make me feel, it's real When we watched the sunset (hoo-hoo) over the castle on the hill Hoo-hoo, over the castle on the hill Hoo-hoo, over the castle on the hill
this song actually made me cry at the line “ but these people raised me”. And that is so true. I can just think back to times when my friends were the only people there for me.
This song literally played my memories when i started highschool it feels gold and silver at the same time, you'll never really know that time passes by....
I don't know why Shape of You is so much more popular than this song. Castle on the Hill is raw and emotional. I guess that's just my opinion. Love this! ❤️
Zena Thompson cause shapr of you has the groove :D love both but enjoying shape of you more cause its a song that makes you happy this one is more emotional and not always perfect time to hear sorry for bad english x.x
This song fills me with nostalgia, It makes me think of all those years ago that i first met her, life was great, but nowadays, struggle and arguments, but we still love each other
This song says home to me. The beauty of the English countryside and the weight of history. Wherever you are in the world, I hope that you all get to return to the place that you call home.
when we"re kids we wanted to grow up , now we cant stop thinking about the past , life . miss all that gave me great memories and stuck with me with all the bad once , where ever you are good luck in life
I think what's beautiful about the song is that he doesn't glorify the town and his past. He simply recognizes it and is willing to embrace the broken people around him -- since we are all broken. He's is trying, also, to remember the good parts of that time in his life. It's a timeless song IMO -- rare these days.
SUBSCRIBE ME I'LL SUBSCRIBE YOU BACK I may be “to young” but I still know the pain of having to leave the only home you’ve ever had. I had to go live on the other side of the world, leaving all my friends, never seeing them again, and not having contact with them ever again. I think about they every day, because all the people here suck. But, I’ve managed to get over it. And be happy where I am. But I get it, I’m still a child. And I’m fine with that.
When he said, “These people raised me and I can’t wait to go home,” and “When we did not know the answers,” both of those quotes made me cry at 3:40 and 3:57. 🥺😢
Be honest, if you’re old enough to understand all of this then you know this hit hard , nostalgia is a damn strong thing and this was a great portrayal of it
1st time I heard it I was driving down I95. suddenly realized I was bawling my eyes out. I love the song, but it hurts to hear it all at the same time.....Even worse in the world we live in today!!!! I'm 55

When I was six years old, I broke my leg
When I was running from my brother and his friends
And tasted the sweet perfume of the mountain grass I rolled down
Well, I was younger then, take me back to when
I found my heart and broke it here
Made friends and lost them through the years
And I've not seen the roaring fields in so long, I know I've grown
But I can't wait to go home
I'm on my way
Driving at 90 down those country lanes
Singing to "Tiny Dancer"
And I miss the way you make me feel, and it's real
And we watched the sunset over the castle on the hill
15 years old and smoking hand-rolled cigarettes
Running from the law through the backfields
And getting drunk with my friends
Had my first kiss on a Friday night
I don't reckon that I did it right
But I was younger then, take me back to when
We found weekend jobs, when we got paid
We'd buy cheap spirits and drink them straight
Me and my friends have not thrown up in so long, oh, how we've grown
But I can't wait to go home
I'm on my way (hoo-hoo)
Driving at 90 down those country lanes (hoo-hoo)
Singing to "Tiny Dancer"
And I miss the way you make me feel, and it's real
And we watched the sunset (hoo-hoo), over the castle on the hill
Hoo-hoo, over the castle on the hill
Hoo-hoo, over the castle on the hill
One friend left to sell clothes, one works down by the coast
One had two kids but lives alone, one's brother overdosed
One's already on his second wife, one's just barely getting by
But these people raised me and I can't wait to go home
And I'm on my way
I still remember these old country lanes
When we did not know the answers
And I miss the way (hoo-hoo) you make me feel, it's real
When we watched the sunset (hoo-hoo) over the castle on the hill
Hoo-hoo, over the castle on the hill
Hoo-hoo, over the castle on the hill
So it’s really “me and my friends have not thrown up in so long” 2:19 😅
They’re also running from the Lord 😅 1:50

I don't know why Shape of You is so much more popular than this song. Castle on the Hill is raw and emotional. I guess that's just my opinion. Love this! ❤️
agreed
Zena Thompson the lyrics of this song are better but the sound of the other is really the best
Zena Thompson agreed shape of you is catch af tho had it stuck in my head for the past 3 days
Zena Thompson I love the lyrics of this more, but Shape of You has a good beat :)
Zena Thompson cause shapr of you has the groove :D love both but enjoying shape of you more cause its a song that makes you happy this one is more emotional and not always perfect time to hear sorry for bad english x.x
This song fills me with nostalgia,
It makes me think of all those years ago that i first met her, life was great, but nowadays, struggle and arguments, but we still love each other

I had to go live on the other side of the world, leaving all my friends, never seeing them again, and not having contact with them ever again. I think about they every day, because all the people here suck. But, I’ve managed to get over it. And be happy where I am. But I get it, I’m still a child. And I’m fine with that.
