- In the wake of recent events and for all that continues to go on in our world every day, here is a powerful song written by Claude Debussy in the midst of WWI. It describes the senseless destruction of War with poignant words written by the composer himself. The sentiment is strong and applies to today.
Please share and consider donating to our crowd funding campaign to ensure this music and the music of many other composers is preserved for generations to come.
Absolutely spectacular. Love hearing this sung by a baritone.
Bravo!
I came here to listen to what one of the songs was like that Claude Debussy played at one of his last concerts, in May 1917. What a powerful song, and a powerful voice too!! d:-)b
Remarquable interprétation !
One of my favourite songs! And I greatly appreciate hearing it sung by a baritone. I'm a contralto who sang it in several WWI commemoration concerts in 2014-15. You do it wonderfully well!
Love this version, really ! Best one I heard so far ! Thank you for uploading this

That brought a tear to my eye.
*Nous n’avons plus de maisons*
We have no more houses
The enemies have taken everything, taken everything, taken everything,
*Jusqu’à notre petit lit*
Down to our little bed.
They have burnt down our school, and our schoolmaster, too.
They have burnt down the church and Lord Jesus Christ
*Et le vieux pauvre qui n’a pas pu s’en aller*
And the old pauper who could not get away
Of course! Papa has gone to war
*Pauvre maman est morte*
Poor Mama died
*Avant d’avoir vu tout ça.*
Before seeing all this
*Qu’est-ce que l’on va faire?*
What are we going to do?
Christmas, little Christmas, don't visit them, don't ever visit them again, punish them!
*Vengez les enfants de France!*
Avenge the children of France
And the little Belgians, Serbs and Poles as well
*Si nous en oublions, pardonnez-nous.*
If we forgot anyone, forgive us
*Noël ! Noël ! Surtout, pas de joujoux,*
Christmas, Christmas! Above all, no toys!
*Tâchez de nous redonner le pain quotidien.*
Try to give us our daily bread again!
Christmas! Listen to us, we have no more little wooden shoes
But grant victory to the children of France!
Excellent
Lovely rendering. Delightful your french articulation.
I like how this song is written for France, but the flags in the background are US flags
anyways, thanks for your splendid performance
