First two was great bc the pinhead and his crew wasn't evil or good. They just simply are. You solve the puzzle they come. Even like in the second movie where the teenage girl solves the puzzle for the doctor they were like we don't want this person they were forced to do this we want the person who wanted this puzzle solved.
It is interesting to see how originally it had it's own lore and god and moral ambiguity, but as it went on it just fell into to Christian themes. The cenobites went from extra dimensional explorers serving an original God to Demons that damn people to hell serving the Christian God.
@@MALICEM12 That turn of tone in the movies always frustrated me. We have plenty of films and other media depicting different versions of Christian heaven/hell, it's been overplayed at times. I found the idea of demon-like, interdimentional creatures who were not involved in a traditional "hell" theme to be really intetsting. There is so much that could have been expanded on. I wish Clive Barker could work on another film for this again. It seems like at this point people make more movies just to keep the franchise rights going and make money from the brand.
I always felt like Hellraiser was a phenomenal idea that has yet to be truly realised. The first two are 80’s classics that set up where the films could go and... no one took advantage.

From 3 onward the problem plaguing the series seems to have been the way the directors portray the Cenobites. That being hellish "murder monsters". When in the first two they were intelligent amoral beings whose only desire was to show their otherworldly pleasures to mortals, Pinhead even had a code, desire opens the box not hands.
Part of what made the Cenobites so interesting in the first 2 films was that they weren't even the antagonist, Julia and Frank played that part, the Cenobites were just there exploring experiences and doing what they do, they didn't have an evil plan to kill people and escape, they just got called up for a good time.
Fun Fact: In the original movie draft, Pinhead was supposed to be in Freddy vs. Jason. When Freddy and Jason went back to Hell, the two of them continued fighting until Pinhead interrupted their fight. I wish that happened.
@@liamleonard9120 lots of people see the reason for crossovers and reboots is because Hollywood are running out of fresh ideas yet there are low budget new idea films all the time straight to dvd/streaming. It's cause they know that already established makes money and that's all its about these days. Big production companies don't take as many risks as they used to.
Real talk, I had no idea they were still making Hellraiser movies as late as 2018. It's always been something that lived in my mind on VHS in the horror section of a Blockbuster.
There are ten films in total. The last two of which were released with almost no budget simply to maintain the rights. Clive Barker was only involved, credited or otherwise, with the first six films. And so, the first six are the only films I really care for. Though, I have a soft spot for Hellworld.
I think Hellraiser worked better when it was about beings from an unknown dimension, and that they're a team of beings seeking knowledge or seeking those who seek the knowledge they have. I liked the idea that there are more cenobites than Pinhead roaming around that we just do not see...but the later installments ruin this mystique.
I wish they didn’t abandon the extra dimensional explorer concept of the cenobites. Making them biblical demons seems so lame. They were more then just demons, traveling to different dimensions looking for otherworldly pleasures was interesting and more definitely could have been done with it.
Depending on human perception, Cenobites have also identified themselves as a type of demon. The word cenobite is Latin for "common life" and has been used since the Medieval Age to describe a form of monastic lifestyle within various monotheistic religions.
Barker describes the cenobites as the "elogians of The Order of the Gash", the word elogian translates from Greek as "generous gift" and is found within the Bible.
Hahaha. Came here for a refresher, I had no idea Clive Barker had the rights back, which means that Behavior's license comes from him which is GLORIOUS.
I didn’t know about the hbo series. It’s great that Clive actually got the rights back. I look forward to hearing about it. A new hellraiser series would definitely make me subscribe to hbo
the idea of creatures seeing pain as pleasure is such a cool and creepy idea. it's both very alien but also somewhat human. Brutal punishment is a lot less interesting by comparison.
As a kid, not knowing s&m itself or its inspiration/theme to the movies, hellraiser gave me a different experience. Going simply off the title, the out of place look of pinhead/hellpriest or the cenobytes in general, their cold demeanor, parts of the dialogue I had the impression that they were timeless beings without origin bringing unimaginable horrors to anyone curious enough to summon them despite words of caution or instinct.
I still find myself thinking like, "Wait soo the whole concept of this movie is based on interdimensional masochists?!" I used to try to pick a part the meaning, (and don't get me wrong, it does have a deeper level to it with the philosophies of pain and pleasure), but ultimately it's just s&m 😆 Either way, still love the movie!
That's what I got the impression of as a kid too, I saw Hellraiser for the first time when I was maybe 10 years old. The distinct idea I got of the Cenobites was that they were scary, but not dangerous beings. They were kind of just doing what Cenobites do as these timeless and ageless immortal beings from a scary realm that anyone could bring about just by solving this puzzle box. No evilness there, no goodness there, they are exactly what you perceive them as. Weirdly both horrific and somewhat comforting guides to sensation, both unnerving and somewhat relieving to see just because you wouldn't be suffering alone. And at the time, as a kid, I was undergoing a lot of medical stuff and knew a bit about pain and suffering due to that, and that even pain could be used to cause something positive like healing. So to me, even the pain pleasure aspect wasn't evil, in a way it's almost like the concept was neutral and they perhaps even saw it as "helpful" to hurt people. It really helped influence my creativity as a horror fan, and gave me the tools to understand xenofiction and writing from a beyond human or non human perspective. Maybe it's even what made me get over my fear of the monster in the closet - because if Pinhead and his friends were scary but just kinda doing their own thing because that's what they do, then perhaps that was true of EVERYTHING scary I feared.
I think its worth mentioning that in the first movie, the Cenobites only try to abduct Christie because they believe she went back on her word when she mistakes Frank as her father and refuses to hand him over to them. Thus, she technically violated their bargin in their eyes, thus invalidating her protection from them.
@@louiscyphre2267 Yes, but remember she bargained with them to let her live if she led them to that guy her husband slept with who escaped them by reanimating. He wore her father's skin, and she briefly refused to hand him over to the cenobytes, thinking him to be her father, thus breaking her deal and causing them to go after her.
@@Kitkat-986 I honestly saw it as them KNOWING that she was confused because of Frank but seeing as she didn't step in or run, they assumed it may have been part of some act to get Frank to comply. Then, because she KEPT her deal and gave them Frank back, they planned to reward her. The problem is the Cenobite idea of a "reward" is being taken to experience "their pleasures".
Awesome video! Fun fact: The name 'pinhead' is never used in the films or novel, The Hellbound Heart, and the character had no name until Barker's 2015 novel The Scarlet Gospels, where the characters name was officially revealed to be 'Hell Priest'

Whoever directed the void could do a fantastic job at making a new hellraiser movie. The void became an instant classic in my mind at release. Felt like the thing and hellraiser combined into one.
OK, now we are getting somewhere. The narration and script is MUCH improved here. Don't know if you found an English native editor, but, it certainly sounds like you have. Kudos. Love your content, it was just your delivery that was destroying it before. Keep it up, and I hope this isn't a fluke...
Hellraiser is one hell of a weird movie series. I like it for its adult tone and doesn't go shy on the gore. The fact you have to solve the puzzle to summon and get rid of the cenobites is something that makes the movies interesting.
Hellraiser: Inferno is probably my favorite sequel after the 2nd. I enjoy that it takes a more psychological approach and honestly it really reminds me of Silent Hill. Infact I would say it's a better adaptation of Silent Hill then either of the 2 actual Silent Hill movies made.
I agree with you. Inferno was my favorite Hellraiser film. Like yourself, I also like more of a psychological approach to horror movies, rather than just straight hack & gore.
Hellbound and Inferno are tied for my favorite Hellraiser film, period. Inferno could have stood alone as it's own movie without the Hellraiser moniker if it so chose. There was also a steep decline in quality following Inferno. Though, the sixth film wasn't quite as far removed as the four succeeding it.
I'm currently watching the original movies for the first time. I saw the new one that came out on Hulu and was really intrigued. I'm a big Silent Hill fan so I can't wait to check out Inferno now.
I’ve watched these films since I was a kid and love a few of them. I do think that the body horror aspect is what stops this franchise from thriving. No big studio will take it, and if they do, it will be dumbed down. This series is sadly bound for straight-to-DVDs forever.
@@jws2886I mean, BDSM is still taboo in the States. It's franchises like Hellraiser that prove that more creators need to ensure they still have creative control ensured within the contracts they sign with these production companies. Hell, even just keeping the ownership rights themselves would go a long way in preventing more of these companies ruining franchises in this way.
One time years ago I locked myself in my room, turned on my blue light for atmosphere, and watched the first 7 movies in a row. Still feels like a fever dream.
In the 1st Hellraiser, if you watch the scene where Kirsty is being chased down the hallway by the upside down monster, the wheels of the trolley that the monster puppet is mounted on are visible for a second or 2.
When I saw hellraiser 9 I thought “how could this get any worst” then I saw hellraiser 10 and the spectrum of pain I was able to perceive widened considerably.
@@Thebensupremacy yeah, I'm with you. Judgement wasn't as good as the first few, but way better than the later sequels. And 9.... We don't talk about 9
I don't care what anyone says, the Hellraiser franchise held my attention all the way until IV. I know a lot didn't really care for Hell on Earth or Bloodline, but I enjoyed both. The series went down after that. It became watered down cop thrillers, about cults, and all kinds of nonsense. And we saw less and less of Pinhead the more movies they made. Now to be fair his role really wasn't that big in the first two movies either, which just speaks to how scary, talented, and memorable Doug Bradley made this iconic role. Pinhead represents everything from the darkest exploratorations of pleasure and pain, to regal and intelligence, to menacing and terrifying. The eloquence in which he speaks is far beyond that of any of the other "slashers" who either don't speak (Michael and Jason), or rely heavily on sarcasm and wit (Freddy and Chucky), and that is what puts him in a completely different league than the others. The reboot with the woman was just wrong. Fight me! 😂
Yeah I saw a part 4 bloodlines as the official ending of the franchise the fact that they said it so far into the future gave them the ability to keep making what amounts to prequels for part 4 all be it extremely poor ones
The third movie is one of the best??? How?? All the lovecraftian mystery of the cenobites are gone. They might as well just be zombies, because that's how they're treated. They're too humanized - especially pinhead. They even removed all voice filters, so they're just random guys instead of cosmic horrors from a different dimension you could never understand.
The third movie sucks since the interesting aspect of pinhead being an explorer is removed. He's just any other villain and it turns into an action movie by the last half
I agree, its not from the 5th movie that it went downhill with but from the 3th. Hellraiser bloodlines tried to repair the damage done, but then from the 5th one it became all psychological thriller with some horror into it. And the hellraiser feeling was all gone for me.
I'd actually like to see that series, just a set of small stories maybe based on the comics that kind of explore what other stuff Cenobites do, what happens when certain people mess with the box, etc.
Favorite is Inferno ever since I saw it, and as a huge fan of psychological horror, like Jacob's Ladder or Silent Hill, even though I do recognize it's not as faithful to the original mythos. Guilty pleasure also remains Bloodline, just for the sheer ambition to construct an epic saga in three timelines. Judgment offered something different and could revive the saga if production values were just a bit higher. Thank you for actually taking the time to review the entire saga, as most people pretend that anything after Hell On Earth doesn't exist.
I recently saw the 2018 ones. I held off due to the absolute disaster the last one was. While it wasn't great, I did like the guy who played pinhead. Bradley can't play pinhead forever & this new guy at least gave a convincing performance.
I rather enjoyed the tone and direction of the new one compared to, well, lost of the later sequels. I like how they gave the cenobites more personification and the plot was interesting.... But not quite Hellraiser at the same time. Definitely better than the one before it, which I try to forget about
Hellraiser has been one of my all time favorite horror series'. I'd love to see it get a hard reboot with the original, non studio story brought to life with a solid budget given.
Larry Wachowski (now, Lana) of "The Matrix" fame, wrote one of the best hellraiser stories in the "comic book," which did a better job of staying true to Barkers' vision than the movie sequels did.
Basically, once they deviated from the "explorers of pain and pleasure" and the enigmatic horror of cenobites and body horror it went downhill. They were sequels that were based on the ideas of sequels and not the original core of the subject matter...or scripts that had nothing to do with Hellraiser and then were crammed into the franchise.
I used to rewatch the first 2 Hellraiser's with a buddy of mine on VHS all the time. Love Clive Barker, his art and books are fantastic. Met Doug Bradley a while back and got him to sign a picture and have a Hellraiser theme in a room in my house. I'll still watch them all every once in a while but the first two are my jam.
A great accounting of the series, and welcome news about Barker getting the rights back. So long as the proposed series isn't an adaptation of his novel "The Scarlet Gospels" - which sees Pinhead/Priest basically taking over Hell and running it (metaphorically and literally) into the ground - the franchise might well get a new lease on life. Or it might turn into "Freddy's Nightmares", that godsawful anthology that was spun out of "Nightmare on Elm Street" back in the early 1990s. Guess we'll have to see.
Reading the scarlet gospels made me realize that Barker lost his edge. Its a loveletter to D'Amour, breaks lore regarding Leviathans realm and describes whats going on in hell like a harry potter fanfiction while having Xipe Totec act like an idiot just because
What I think about the first movie is that the cenobites are not actually evil. Julia and Frank are. Pinhead and the others are more like observers looking for new ways of pleasure or torture
I've been saying that to others for years...there should be a campaign or petition done. I haven't checked online if Clive Barker has even thought of doing it though.
I remember Clive Barker pitching the original Hellraiser as a story about four demons chasing down a guy to tear him to pieces. Clive Barker did not write The Hellbound Heart as a deep analysis of human emotions and emotional dynamics, it was meant to be a reflection of industrial goth culture and gore. One could argue that Atkins's work on Hellraiser as an ongoing series of movies took liberty with the source material to provide a reason to make sequels which would flesh out the Hellraiser universe. The Hellbound heart was written as a one-off and was never meant to lead to any deep understanding of the cenobites, but the unexpected success of the first movie (and subsequently the second) created a demand for all things Hellraiser. Dimension had also acquired the rights for The Prophecy (Christopher Walken was a rebellious Gabriel) which suffered the same fate, and the later movies were often filmed at the same location (interchanging actors from each franchise) to keep the costs down while securing the copyright protection they needed. I was hoping that the Hellraiser and The Prophecy franchises would culminate in a crossover film...which never really happened (as people lost interest in both). The Scarlet Gospels came out as a book that connected the cenobites and the Hellraiser universe to the Harry D'Amour character from The Last Illusion, where Clive Barker took control of his creations once again and portrayed Pinhead as brutal demon seeking to take down Satan...to take his place (which could have worked in film as the instrument to combine Clive Barker's Hellraiser universe with the universe of The Prophecy, but that avenue was not realized). Yes, the original story was simple, but the need to keep vamping on the initial theme with multiple writers and multiple movies made the franchise a big confusing mess. Also The Cenobites had fought the Nightbreed in comics, which could have been epic on film, if not for the lack of interest in the Nightbreed. So, what we need is a Hellraiser-Nightbreed-Prophecy-Harry D'Amour-X-Files crossover. ; - )
as a little girl, with a sick sense of humor and too much access to inappropriate movies, I fell in love with Pinhead the Anti-hero. I only really enjoyed 3 of the many Hellraiser movies. those with Kirsty. I thought the Pinhead and Kirsty dynamic the most interesting. He saved her from her evil uncle in the first one, he helped her out in the second one, but recognized she was no longer an innocent. He made a deal with her in Hellseeker to punish her cheating jerk of a husband, and turned it around on him to get him and those who helped him taken away instead. most little girls wanted prince charming, and I grew up looking for a handsome Pin Faced Cenobite to sweep me off my feet. I am so excited for the HBO Series! I hope they get the OG two back at least for a cameo, and that they explore that Dark Fantasy side, as well as the horror.
There's for whatever reason that one horror character we all as kids just kinda... wanted to love. I always felt bad for Jason in particular, this kid just wanted to vibe at camp and he got forgotten and died, and now he's this half-remembering revenant who murders because his many deaths just kinda... slowly seem to be rotting his ability to process more and more. It's sad. He never had to be a Killer, and yet in death that is what he became.
Its interesting how Hellraiser slowly shifted from Body Horror to Psychological Horror following the general trend of Horror movies from 80s to 00s. Hellraiser 2022 is a sort of Return to Form as it goes on Full Body Horror once more.
I agree with your assessments of the 10 hellraiser films and do think the last film hellraiser: judgment day was really well shot ..the advancement of films today absolutely give the hellraiser films the underworldly feel they were meant to have more so since technology has developed over the years, this being said I wouldn't be apposed to the hellraiser franchise being retold from the beginning using the newer technologies I think it would revive the series and give it the look and feel the series was originally made to have
Good little docu. Well done. This was more entertaining than the failed sequels... if that's what they can actually be called... legally... by miles. That Clive Barker response was worth watching this alone. Hose myself laughing every time I replay it. Thanks for that.
Frank did not accidently kill the husband, feel free to rewatch the details of the scene you spoke about lol. he states to Julia "Sorry, its nothing personal"
I love the first two movies but when I watched the third movie I stopped watching halfway through it I just couldn't love it the way I loved the first two
Hey but seriously… the 2022 hellraiser was a huge surprise! I download it just to watch the next mediocre installment of the franchise, and found myself extremely entertained. Solid job by Hulu
My friend Paul T Taylor plays Pinhead in JUDGEMENT. He did such a great job of making an iconic character his own. I wish the film was better and they hadhad a bigger budget, BUT Paul certainly gave it his all! So proud of him.
The leader is not "named Pinhead." He is explicitly NOT named that. He is called the Hell Priest and other things in the books and movies, but never "pinhead". Pinhead is what many fans CALL HIM, even though he is NOT named that.
I guess it's unpopular opinion, but I truly like Inferno. And I know it's so different from what Hellraiser was, or Pinhead, but somehow that psychological aspect... worked for me. But I do love psychological thrillers/horrors, so maybe that's why I like this one.
We have such sights to show you.. (Dimension film). Now..I just started Scarlet gospels..so 2 books from Barker (hellraiser and this one). I will check if a new is on the way after all the copyrights trials...maybe some great stuff will arrive (but strangely..generally with books..music..movies..art..creators did their better works during the young age..not when they re old).
Stephen king begs to differ (caveat books only, that guy sells movies rights for dollars to doughnuts to new movie directors so that they can hopefully make a name for themselves)
@@JuanWonOne I have to disagree with you and agree with Sam. King was phenomenal in his (relatively) younger years writing about the 'monster without', i.e. environmental, external; for example, IT, and The Tommyknockers. When his focus shifted to the 'monster within', starting with Gerald's Game, that's where I feel he really started to slide. Yes, there isn't an absolute black-and-white demarcation in his writing between these two themes, but his latter works are noticeably different.
Although he is a fantastic writer but you’re gonna be sorely dissapointed if you’re just seeking more hellraiser from barker. He only wrote hellbound heart and scarlet gospels and aside from the books of blood 1-6, Damnation game and cabal. He’s not written a lot of horror. But I would check out all his books as they are all really good.
To be fair Harry D'Amour is the protagonist in The Scarlet Gospels. He is a character from another of Barker's novellas called The Last Illusion and subsequently played by Scott Bakula in its screen adaptation Lord of Illusions.
I think they should look towards the comics for ideas as they were very creative. Maybe use them as an anthology series instead of a full movie. THere was one called Clive Barkers BOOK OF THE DAMNED 3 which was written as Phillip LeMarchand's personal diary about how he made the boxes and what it cost him. So much better than what was shown in Bloodlines.
It’s my favorite horror movie series. But I have to admit that the series could have been so so so much more and it’s tragic that it couldn’t reach its max potential.
Just imagine what it would have been if Clive hadn't thought the original soundtrack was "too scary" and commissioned a new one (pretty sure the original can be found right here on UA-cam, the band that made it released it well after the film).
I actually found Judgement halfway decent as it was more faithful to what the cenobites were originally - beings who only went after those who sought them instead of just being cookie cutter monsters.
Honestly, the first and second films are borderline cosmic horror, when you consider Leviathan and take what Pinhead said as the straight truth. Wish they would have stuck with that. Thinking about it, those first two films would pair nicely with Event Horizon as unofficial preludes to the Warhammer 40k universe. That universe has dimensional aliens that are seen as religion-based "demons" that corrupt those of "our" dimension.
I can't get over the make up and effects in the 1st few movies, all credit to the make up artists who put together things like Franks skin and the Cenobites, amazingly twisted detail.
Would love to have a movie about the Cenobites in their world. Sort of like what had happened before the Lament Configuration. How Pinhead came to power, how they know what goes on in our world, and all that good stuff. Many figures have a GRAND story behind them, and it would be kinda awesome to see their stories combined into a MASSIVE horror movie.
They really fucked the plot after the second movie. It was already a rough ride with the first two, but it was enough to get me deeply immersed. The idea of the cenobites being extradimensional hedonists was much better than generic horror movie demons. They're best when they show up like "Hey, woah, why are you crying? You solved the box, you wanted this, now we want you. Don't worry, you'll understand what we're doing FOR you in a couple hundred years, when you're one of us."
I forgot the name but theirs another hellraiser film full on UA-cam, the nasty character that summons the cenobites is called Gideon and multi millionaire who sacrifices people to the lament configuration to reach other worldly pleasure to find out pleasure doesn't necessarily mean a good feeling. It's not as bad as some of the sequels but it does seem to be more about targeting a younger audience and theirs a female pinhead taking the lead cenobites role. It's just called HELLRAISER 2022
I absolutely love hellraiser . One of my favorite 80s original. It’s sad no one put the time or money in to give it a new start. This might be an unpopular opinion but I actually liked the most recent one from 2018 even though it didn’t have the original pin head or a great budget.
Hellraiser is next to A Nightmare On Elm Street my favorite horror franchise. First 2 movies are exceptional. Last 2 movies are my least fav.
Hellraiser, Block Buster, pizza and Friday nights. I miss those times.
Where it should have stayed by the looks of it.
There are ten films in total. The last two of which were released with almost no budget simply to maintain the rights. Clive Barker was only involved, credited or otherwise, with the first six films. And so, the first six are the only films I really care for. Though, I have a soft spot for Hellworld.
Hello, this is the future and we have Hellraiser (2022) by the guy who made VHS
@@baronvonshekel7323 And it's pretty good too!
Had a friend who was obsessed with this series. They had a box. I was unwilling to touch it. I don't play like that...
What type of box?
I wish they didn’t abandon the extra dimensional explorer concept of the cenobites. Making them biblical demons seems so lame.
They were more then just demons, traveling to different dimensions looking for otherworldly pleasures was interesting and more definitely could have been done with it.
To quote Pinhead himself "Angels to some, demons to others"
It's all about perspective.
sex demons isnt an original concept, hellraiser sucks
Depending on human perception, Cenobites have also identified themselves as a type of demon. The word cenobite is Latin for "common life" and has been used since the Medieval Age to describe a form of monastic lifestyle within various monotheistic religions.
They are also like are clerics who have chosen to interact with the outside world while living within a monastery
Barker describes the cenobites as the "elogians of The Order of the Gash", the word elogian translates from Greek as "generous gift" and is found within the Bible.
I feel like a lot of dead by daylight players are going to be watching this soon
Hahaha. Came here for a refresher, I had no idea Clive Barker had the rights back, which means that Behavior's license comes from him which is GLORIOUS.
I hope they enjoy their stay.
I definitely did
This is exactly me rn
Bingo, doing just this!
I didn’t know about the hbo series. It’s great that Clive actually got the rights back. I look forward to hearing about it. A new hellraiser series would definitely make me subscribe to hbo
"Your suffering will be legendary, even in Hell." - my ab fave line from Pinhead. Had it on a shirt once too.
Mine is "ahh no tears please, its a waste of good suffering"
"I feel nothing. I am so exquisitely empty." from the Space one, the fourth movie.
Yeah that's something you never want to hear.
the idea of creatures seeing pain as pleasure is such a cool and creepy idea. it's both very alien but also somewhat human.
Brutal punishment is a lot less interesting by comparison.
“I. am. so exquisitely empty..”
That line always made me have chills I love it.
Pretty good definition
I still find myself thinking like, "Wait soo the whole concept of this movie is based on interdimensional masochists?!" I used to try to pick a part the meaning, (and don't get me wrong, it does have a deeper level to it with the philosophies of pain and pleasure), but ultimately it's just s&m 😆
Either way, still love the movie!
No, they wanted her because she opened the box.
"and then the executives decided to play it safe" pretty much explains everything wrong with modern media
Awesome video!
Fun fact: The name 'pinhead' is never used in the films or novel, The Hellbound Heart, and the character had no name until Barker's 2015 novel The Scarlet Gospels, where the characters name was officially revealed to be 'Hell Priest'
That would be a epic movie if done right
A character says 'Pinhead' in Hellraiser: Hell On Earth. But yes, know he originally didn't have an actual name (maybe just 'lead Cenobite').
Pinhead is actually used in a couple of the films! The original didn't have a name and was just referred to as "Lead Cenobite" but after the fanbase gave him the name Pinheadnit was used in the following films
🙋🏿👑❣️‼️😈🌈❣️🌈👑👀🉐️🧡🇺🇸🧡🌈🧡Yess!! Scarlet Gospels was a Brilliant Novel, and an excellent end to the Hellraiser Saga!!🙋🏿❣️‼️❣️‼️❣️😈😈‼️🙋🏿‼️🌈🧵🧡‼️‼️❣️‼️❣️‼️🉐️🉐️🉐️
For the life of me, I could never figure out why he was called pinhead, they looked more like needles to me.
Whoever directed the void could do a fantastic job at making a new hellraiser movie. The void became an instant classic in my mind at release. Felt like the thing and hellraiser combined into one.
Wel movie realose was tge bidget ad plot and everything was weak. The trailer as good.
Facts that’s shit was a hell raiser clone
The director attached too the movie the night house is involved with the reboot film.
Oh hell yes. The return of practical effects. I would love this.
I love that film.
The cenobytes are some of the most stylish and stylistic horror creatures. They are like inter-dimensional club kids and I love it
I really like Cenobites better as just being explorers, not celestial beings that have to do with heaven and hell.
I heard the cenobites were the inspiration for the God hand in Berserk
Almost certainly were. Also RIP Miura
Exactly what i was thinking, great stuff :D
(rip miura, thank you for your work of art)
i heard that hellraiser and berserk had inspiration from a common source, some even more old tale or book with those thematics
The God hand based off Leviathan
@@lolibear Sounds like BS, what was that source?
I’ve watched these films since I was a kid and love a few of them. I do think that the body horror aspect is what stops this franchise from thriving. No big studio will take it, and if they do, it will be dumbed down. This series is sadly bound for straight-to-DVDs forever.
New one is pretty good.
@@jws2886I mean, BDSM is still taboo in the States. IF you asked any Japanese or Koreans what they thought about it or if they knew what BDSM was, they'd probably have no clue because they're not educated on it. Those who know only see it in a negative light when I've always seen it in a positive way.
This person saw the sights Pinhead had to show them.
In the 1st Hellraiser, if you watch the scene where Kirsty is being chased down the hallway by the upside down monster, the wheels of the trolley that the monster puppet is mounted on are visible for a second or 2.
Never noticed and watched this so many times. I'll look out for that next time I watch it.
Yooooo
The Engineer was more important to Hellraiser lore than what this scene imparted to people. He was reduced to a common dungeon encounter creature.
@@unlimitedrabbit exactly, reminded me of the Labyrinth Oubliette scene lol.
I was just noticing that lol
When I saw hellraiser 9 I thought “how could this get any worst” then I saw hellraiser 10 and the spectrum of pain I was able to perceive widened considerably.
hellraiser judgement was a step up from the ninth movie.
1st off love your profile pic.
2nd Judgment was leaps and bound better than 9
Widening one's perception of pain is kind of a core pursuit to the cenobites.
@@timothywaldroff7121 judgement was honestly kinda cool
Fight me! 😂
Completely trash I agree
Don't be annoyed at the movies. Movies always have to chop book stories. Get into Clive Barker's books. 👌🏻🔥
Thanking you MV!!! Going to enjoy this pleasure!!!!!!
Yeah I saw a part 4 bloodlines as the official ending of the franchise the fact that they said it so far into the future gave them the ability to keep making what amounts to prequels for part 4 all be it extremely poor ones
5 and up is just the viewer in purgatory
And just like that my night is complete. Love the channel, Hellraiser is my favorite horror franchise. Until Doug left, won't watch another one.
Yeah I only then first two are truely great, the rest of them just goes down hill fast
How about a Hellraiser story that’s primarily told from the perspective of the cenobites. That would be rather interesting
There are comics that I've been reading that do that. They're pretty good.
I'd actually like to see that series, just a set of small stories maybe based on the comics that kind of explore what other stuff Cenobites do, what happens when certain people mess with the box, etc.
As you say they are workers of the flesh. Sometimes the material seeks them out in life and other times it is sent to them after death.
Definitely better than the one before it, which I try to forget about
Hulu raiser? Please say not that one it was complete trash
Hellraiser has been one of my all time favorite horror series'. I'd love to see it get a hard reboot with the original, non studio story brought to life with a solid budget given.
if this is your favorite series you 1) have set a low bar 2) are a closet weirdo
Larry Wachowski (now, Lana) of "The Matrix" fame, wrote one of the best hellraiser stories in the "comic book," which did a better job of staying true to Barkers' vision than the movie sequels did.
😲😲wow I didn't know that you got a title I want to check that out
So happy Clive has the rights back.
Your videos inspire me to visit/revisit so many marvelous films. I watched the first 6 Hellraisers after your Hell Priestess video.
"Deader was filmed alongside deader"
Well I hope so.
Hellraiser universe is such a terrifying and awesome universe.
@Michael Galecki I’m not into that.
Ever seen the Phantasm films? Totally on par with Hellraiser
Its a loveletter to D'Amour, breaks lore regarding Leviathans realm and describes whats going on in hell like a harry potter fanfiction while having Xipe Totec act like an idiot just because
@@baronvonshekel7323 exactly why I had zero hope for the reboot. I was right.
Pinhead doesn’t ruin hell Lucifer kills him off permanently lol
What I think about the first movie is that the cenobites are not actually evil. Julia and Frank are. Pinhead and the others are more like observers looking for new ways of pleasure or torture
Who else is watching this because of the new 2022 Hell raiser film
Love the Hellraiser franchise! Great Movies!
While I hope the HBO series gets made, I really want Clive Barker to make The Scarlet Gospels into a film.
I've been saying that to others for years...there should be a campaign or petition done. I haven't checked online if Clive Barker has even thought of doing it though.
New theory. We aren't plugged into the matrix or simulated, we're all experiencing hellraisers psychological hell, the cenobytes blend in well.
Everything up to Inferno is great. Everything that came after doesn't count.
Thanks for clearing up the Bloodlines debacle, they really needed to make separate films out of that one
Angelique and Pinhead don't fight , he just sets her straight.
Loving all these videos 😍
No….no he didn’t….you really should stop being his friend that film was the…..yeaaaaaa sooo bad only Huluraiser is worse
The leader is not "named Pinhead." He is explicitly NOT named that. He is called the Hell Priest and other things in the books and movies, but never "pinhead". Pinhead is what many fans CALL HIM, even though he is NOT named that.
I saw the most recent remake of Hellraiser made in 2022, it’s well done. Really impressive. In fact it’s the best one since the first three.
I want a Hellraiser, Nightbreed crossover movie like they did in the graphic novels.
That would be awesome 👏
Hell raiser / phantasm is like ready to go

To be fair Harry D'Amour is the protagonist in The Scarlet Gospels. He is a character from another of Barker's novellas called The Last Illusion and subsequently played by Scott Bakula in its screen adaptation Lord of Illusions.
Well done guys , enjoyed that !
I think Tony Randell did Great on the first 2 HellRaiser movies HellRaiser. And HellBound HellRaiser those 2 were the best of the franchise
Clive Barker made some amazing horror comics that creeped me out as a kid. I need to find them online. His horror stories were out of this world.
0:55 - Impressive picture quality... is this cut from a Blu-ray? It's SO hard to get high quality of anything before 2000
I actually found Judgement halfway decent as it was more faithful to what the cenobites were originally - beings who only went after those who sought them instead of just being cookie cutter monsters.
The new Hellraiser movie was brilliant. Finally we got a worthy successor to the franchise.
No it wasn’t
Hellraiser: Inferno and Hellseeker both work rather well as stand-alone Twilight Zone type episodes with a Pinhead presence.
The funny thing is, I didn't even know there were 10 of these, I thought the first three were the only ones: I guess, in a way, they are.
Yes. They are...
The first 2 movies by Clive Barker were classics, but all of the movies were great!!
I can't get over the make up and effects in the 1st few movies, all credit to the make up artists who put together things like Franks skin and the Cenobites, amazingly twisted detail.
The way you can see the layers of muscles, bone, sinew and flesh on Frank's body. It's disturbingly good.
I havent watched beyond Hellraiser III. Now I maybe will watch a couple of the others , based on interest woken by this video.
…Huluraiser is utter trash
Before the world ends in nuclear warfare, I am going too say: “ Welcome to oblivion.”
Pinhead: “ Amen.”
Lol that Clive Barker tweet was savage 🤣
I absolutely love hellraiser . One of my favorite 80s original. It’s sad no one put the time or money in to give it a new start. This might be an unpopular opinion but I actually liked the most recent one from 2018 even though it didn’t have the original pin head or a great budget.
“...realase leviathan on the city of London..”
shows what is clearly New York
Hellraiser is next to A Nightmare On Elm Street my favorite horror franchise.
First 2 movies are exceptional. Last 2 movies are my least fav.
I like Hellseeker because they brought Christy back and once again she did a great deal for her life. Also,Dean Winters as her husband was awesome. One of my fav actors since Oz!
Looking forward to see what will HBO's contribute to the franchise.
Marvelous videos, you made a video and we came to see! Thanks for this😊
I vote that they reboot the Bloodlines film into the three films it deserved
I would honestly like to see that sort of trilogy be a thing.
There's 10 of these?! I only saw the first 3. I knew there were more but 10? Wow.
Revelations and judgement don't count
why?
@@MetalMe55iah They were both literally produced to retain rights, and disowned by creators of the original. Revelations, especially. If a studio is deliberately not publicizing something to avoid criticism, it's pretty safe to assume that it's too terrible to be regarded by any kind of reboot of the franchise.
Theyre literally terrible
