  • In this new video I will take you to the Dutch province Zeeland. I'm visiting a beautiful location for some long exposure photography. At first I'm killing some time photographing birds but when the light gets better I'm getting back to my experiment.
    I'm testing the LIVE ND filter and the high res modes and I can honestly say that the results really surprised me! Watch this video and see what this incredible camera is capable of doing!

    Good to see you out experimenting with long exposure photography. You are very fortunate to have the ND built in to your camera system. I think I liked your camera ND image best. Once again I am envious of your long twilight 7-8 minutes here would mean a huge shift in lighting conditions so not so sure the stacked image would be a go. Your bird images were delightful. As always I enjoyed your video immensely.🙂🙂

      Thanks you Nicoline 🙂 I only started to realise that there would be lot of difference in light between the first and the last image when I pushed the shutter. Maybe if I realised it before that I would have never started this image. But it does indeed take a long time to here. I've been doing some more long exposures recently this sunday I have another video comming up full of long exposures 🤣 I actualy don't know if there was a difference between the nd and live nd filter. There was a bit more colour but it was a minute later so there could have been more colours in the sky. But I will get into it deeper in another video. Have to look at the details myself. Grt guido

      @deborahhammond8576 11 місяців тому +1

      I’ve had OM1 since last November and didn’t love it at all at first, I found it too complicated, probably why I still have much to learn about some of the functions. I bought the 12-40 f2.8, the 40-150 f 2.8 and the 60 mm Macro, and the 2x converter, which I didn’t like. I’m loving it now, and my least used lens is the wider one. I have recently added the 100-400 lens for birds, which I love, oh and and the fishing birds are Terns, my favourite birds. I am starting to love it now,especially the focus stacking with macro lens and the in camera ND function. I traded all my Canon gear, so it’s a big investment and no going back but the only thing I miss is the better in camera Multiple Exposure options with the Canon

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  11 місяців тому

      @deborahhammond8576 we have a kind of simular kit actualy. I use all the lenses you have. I only don't own the 2x converter. I only have the 1.4 converter. What do you mean with multiple exposures? Younmean that you can blend multiple pictures in to one? Indent know about the cannon but you can take 2 shots in one image with the om-1. Would be nice if it could be more I agree with that. Happy to hear you like the system now 🙂 where do you live in Canada? Grt guido

      You can do so many nice things with an nd filter. Little tip if you buy one the buy one the fits your biggest lens. Then buy adapters that allows you to use it on every lens. Those adapters are a few euro. You will save money else you have to buy different sizes for all lenses. Thanks for watching and your comment. Appreciate it 🙏 grt guido

    Fun video to watch. I've enjoyed combining these with long exposure for some time with combining it with zooming as well or ICM. Some examples over in my galleries. It's really a lot of fun and as you say, you wait a bit to see what happens, but it is worth it in my experience, to try and enjoy this. When I'm shooting major events, I first make sure I get my bread and butter shots that I need and then when I'm sure I've got the important images I work on creative stuff, dragging the shutter, etc.,. Same with landscapes. I've had many years at some locations and probably got enough pretty scenes to last a life time, so why not experiment when the light is right and try these techniques you're doing?! It's a lot of fun and this is really the reason I switched from the heavy Canon gear over a period 8-10 years ago and now I have a smaller, more creative kit that can handle the professional work I need those big cameras for back in the day as well as cameras that can do things those cameras never could and even today, still cannot do what the OM system cameras can do rather routinely.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  10 місяців тому

      I totaly agree on your approach where you first take the normal shots and then start creative processing. I actualy do the same with compositions. I'm often the type that sees something and then photographs what I see. These days I have forced myself to take that shot first and then walk around it and think of another shot. Most times the first shot eventualy wins. I have never used a different camera then olympus / om system. I've never seen any reason to switch and still don't. Like you say the camera is so packed with features and the image quality is excellent. Where can is see your images? Have to say that I'm realy interested now 🙂 thanks for watching the video and your comment I realy appreciate it. grt guido

    Nice images, I use the High Res for waterfalls. You need to keep the ratio of moving water to still landscape low but it works ok. Never tried sunset and sunrise but will now. I like to test out what the camera will do, we have paid good money for what is in it to help create images only limited by our imagination.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  11 місяців тому +1

      That's exactly it. The only limitation is your own imagination... I was amazed that this actualy worked out. And the result was so much better then I ever expected. I almost didn't edit this image those colours realy popt out of it. I'll make another video next week to show more details of the different settings and shots. It surprised me also that the live nd filter was so good. Absolutely no difference to a normal nd filter. Thanks for watching the video. Grt guido

      @@GuidoVanDeWater sadly, I haven't done a great deal - I've only had the camera for a short while. I tried getting a series of 50MP images to photostack and this was moderately successful - some ghosting in the stack (of a long row of poppies in my front garden) because the slightest breeze gives movement. I'm writing from Australia, where we're just coming out of winter, so itching to get out to the coast and other places. There is a guy - Chris Baitson, I'm pretty sure is his name - in England who used live composite to blur water movement in a waterfall - it would never would have occurred to me to try that! Great video thanks. I have tried this as well, you do need a good ND and it takes a looooong time, I have had mixed success as long exposures need a rock-solid camera. It is also frustrating when you see something else while the camera is processing, so maybe a second camera is useful too!

    Hi I use High Res Mode a lot. One thing you can try; ISO 1600. You will be surprised at the results. The noise isn't there.

      Yes I know its insane how low the noise is when using higher iso. I think its already good with normal images but like you say it seems to dissapear at high iso levels when using the high res mode. Thanks for watching and your Comment appreciate it 👍 grt guido

      Thank you 😊 thabks for watching the video and taking time to comment. yeah it does work wel with water but you need Long exposure for it if you want to smoothen it like i did. The live nd filter works the same also goof with water. Only difference is that you don't get an 80mp file but you do get insane dynamic range. I didn't notice any difference between the live nd filter and the actual nd filter. Do you use the om-1 yourself? Where are you from? Grt guido

    You use long exposures in ways I wouldn't think to. The results are interesting. Experimenting is half the fun of photography? The way things blend together for you make me wonder if the Live ND works as well as an actual filter. I find myself using it all the time instead of using my circular ND. I think it's an 8 step filter. The computational version works so well I just don't use it though. As for high-res in general, have you tried it at night for astrophotography? I'm curious about trying it. The stacking process may help to reduce noise. So it's something I've considered. Though a 15-second exposure stacked the way high-res mode works might cause movement over the time period it requires. I wonder if it could account for this. I know the OM-1 isn't supposed to handle movement in high-res mode very well, but it's not something I've tested out myself often. The 15-second limit for astrophotography is following the guide on OM Systems' website for these kind of photos doing the math for a 12mm (24mm FF equivalent) lens. I hope to get the chance to try this out soon. There's too much light pollution in the city.

      Thanks for watching the video and your comment. Yes it is well only learn from experiments and failure. This time it worked out fine. Infortunatly I haven't tried any star photography. I live in the netherlands witch is one of the most dense populated areas in the world. The whole country is like one giant city compared to other country's. So there is not a single spot where I could try star photography without light polutation. If I ever go abroad I'm going to give it a try. I did should nigjtscapes in Amsterdam with the live nd filter and it worked realy wel actualy. I've read rumors about an in camera star tracking mode btw. Don't know if it's true but that would be something! Where are you from? Grt guido

      @@GuidoVanDeWater You're quite welcome! I've not had very good luck with high-res mode myself. Star photography is a challenge in of itself. Interesting though. I'm sorry to hear you have so much light pollution. We still have areas that are fairly dark in the States, so it helps. I hadn't considered using Live ND. I think the in-camera focus stacking might also work as computational photography method to getting good star photos. I'll have to try it. I know that there is starry sky AF, but I don't know about star tracking mode. Is that going to come in an updated firmware? Also, we've spoken before in another video comment. I'm from Colorado.

      I've read rumours about star tracking software in a new update or new camera but so far nothing confirmed. Would be an awsome feature when shooting stars. I just can't give you any proper advice on star photography I just don't have enough experience myself. But recently spike to some people that pointed me 2 locations in the netherlands that still have star photography possibility so might try it some time. But it is 2 hours away so still a challenge 😅 yeah more people from colorado are responding over the past 2 weeks. Guess yputube realy plugged the video there 😅 grt guido

    I also tried out my internal ND filter combined with an ND filter (1000) last summer and I was amazed at how well I could achieve/vary longer exposure times. I didn't come up with the idea of HighRes mode 😔. Unfortunately, the internal ND filter cannot be used with aperture priority.

    • @GuidoVanDeWater
      @GuidoVanDeWater  8 місяців тому

      That's indeed strange that it only works in shutter speed priority. When you use the live nd you do get a stacked image and the noise is extremely low (almost 0 if you ask me). So quality wise it's the same as the high res mode but you don't have the 80mp files. But there is always another time to give it a try right? Where are you from? Thanks for watching the video and you comment I apreciate it 🙂 grt guido

    • @andrevaca6700
      @andrevaca6700 6 місяців тому

      I think it doesn’t allow it in aperture priority mode because if the exposure is changing, then your the Live ND would turn on and off repeatedly when the shutter speed exceeds its limit for the feature (30s max for ND2, 1/2s max for ND5?). Thats why it’s only allowed in shutter priority or manual, because you can lock in the shutter speed

    • @_cyclofob8990
      @_cyclofob8990 6 місяців тому

      @@andrevaca6700 I think so too. You would have to make the ND filter applicable for all shutter speeds. Especially if you want to capture movement in bright daylight. But I don't think the camera's hardware can do that.
