Talk Talk were marvellous when they were synthpop, were marvellous when they were psychedelic-pop, were marvellous when they were slowcore or postrock. They have always been fantastic artists and musicians since 1982 to 1991.
Yes, that Live at Montreaux concert was great. To be honest, i liked this song on that concert better, it was at a slower pace, for me that worked really well.
Fun video. I only discovered Talk Talk myself about a year ago and have been obsessively listening to them ever since - like good cheese and wine. I was 16 in 1984 and I too had never heard of them, a shame since I probably would have reacted in a similar way (obsession) back then too. Great band - sad that Mark Hollis left us so soon.
He was a one-off. Voice full of longing & melancholy. And such character: once he'd decided he'd nothing more to say he just stopped. Utter respect. R.I.P. Mark.
Aw nice I love Talk Talk so much. Yeah they did the opposite journey of Genesis, becoming less and less mainstream. They had a few big hits including It's My Life. With their 1988 album Spirit of Eden, they arguably invented what came to be known as Post-Rock. And it's really an incredible album...
agreed on most. Disagree on the Genesis part, Genesis went mainstream when Peter Gabriel left. Genesis stopped being Genesis when he left. Peter Gabriel however carved his own path. Sometimes mainstream liked it, but that was never his goal, just like Mark Hollis.
"I"m always interested to see what the band looks like." The three core members were Mark Hollis (vocals), Lee Harris (drum kit), and Paul Webb (bass). The other musicians at Montreux were hired for the concert (or maybe the tour). The guy at the stacked synth is Ian Curnow. He and the pianist worked with them often (I'm sorry but his name escapes me at the moment - will get back when I have time.)
I totally geeked out on Peter Gabriel as well, so love the Genesis/Gabriel stuff. Talk Talk is pretty awesome in their unique style as well, and was pleasantly surprised to see them get some love here.
Hello Friend!!! guy! this band is wonderful!! I'm 45 years old, and I've always been a rocker, but it's 2 years since I got to know talk talk, and I'm a boy again!!! splendid!! hug!
I like Talk Talk. You don't see them much on reaction channels. My favourite song is "Life's What You Make It". Simple structure and rather groovy video.
I was lucky enough to see them at Manchester Apollo in 1986, the same year as this was filmed. They were fantastic. Mark Hollis was a genius, such an underrated band.
I have this cd Ryan, it's a strong record all around. In your free time I recommend listening to it. I'm not familiar with their other stuff, but I always felt this was a really enjoyable record. I never have seen live video of them and I really enjoyed watching this, thanks for sharing it and to whoever recommended it.
Been listening to this band since the beginning. You can't google up how good this band is. Wikipedia won't tell you you anything. Must be experienced for decades over and over and over!
Don't get me wrong - I LOVE Talk Talk and they're fantastic live, but I prefer the 1984 concerts, there's still the great quality audio & video footage - but here the band seem just a little tired of having played the same songs for so many nights across Europe and the States for 2 years... the '84 footage seems more vibrant, more alive, having seemingly more fun. I strongly recommend you check out one or all of the 84 concerts uploaded to YT - they really do all have their mojo working and it is totally uplifting, almost as good as being there. Mark was an outstanding vocalist and always put so much passion into his performances, and the rhythm section is just so tight. Lee is a skilful, precise drummer - I find him fascinating to watch - almost like a machine, and a little like Animal from the Muppets lol, and the sound Paul gets from his bass is just gorgeous. There were so few bands that were this good live, they were a real treasure.
Oh I love Talk talk so much! they began very pop to get more and more prog-arty band in the end, sadly Mark Hollis, the singer-leader died last year.. I wish you to try the album "the color of spring", all the album is awesome, song like "Life's what you make it "is worth the try of the album. Interesting for you to know, David Rhodes (Peter Gabriel) played on several album.
Bons tempos.. melhores músicas, todas uma delícia de ouvir... Mark Holly, voz e presença, não tem igual... Banda talk talk... Melhor dos anos, pena Mark ter parado... E acabou nós deixando muito cedo...😍😍😍💘💘💘😢
Their live concerts were actually better than their albums. If you watch the whole concert at Montreux, this was a false "goodnight" and exit. They came back a few minutes later to do three more songs.
I saw this show at Manchester Apollo on the same tour 1986 My brother and I were huge fans, had their albums and bought our tickets . I thought they were amazing, superb musically and Hollis didn’t miss a note…. My brother left half way through complaining they were boring and if he wanted to listen to the album he could have done it at home 😂😂 I had to meet him in the pub next door after the show RIP Mark Hollis ❤
Another band I love. These songs are from their second of five albums. Still during their pop/nee wave period. The live footage is from the tour of their third album, Colour of Spring. That is the transition period. I can't think of another band that evolved more over 5 albums.
I'd suggested the Montreux Jazz Fest performance of 'tomorrow started' to one or more odd reactors, but I'd hazard to guess that none ever took it up. Now you've got to check the last two LPs, the first of which resulted in an end to them as a live band.
You should watch all of the songs from this band live and especially "Hate" where the drummer "kills" it. Nothing like 'em. The drummer (Lee Harris) is marvelous and the bassist (Paul Webb) is a blast to watch. Mark was a genius with a distinctive voice. RIP.
To have a good idea of their greatness, you’ve to hear their next album (Colour Of Springs). One of the few great album of the 80’s. Like TfF (Seeds Of Love), it’s the perfect blend between good pop songs with a fantastic artistic sensibilities.
Another of my favourites bands ever, along with Genesis, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Marillion, IQ, Camel, Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson. One of the most underrated band ever. people thought that they were a commercial band due to the first album, they've been wrong, considering the following. Try the album the Colour of spring, total masterpiece. Sadly Mark Hollis, the singer, the lyricist and main composer died last year. There's another reaction channel I will recommand you is Fish out of water, Tre Narcisse is a very good guy with awesome reactions and never seen such diversity in his discovers.
Odd to think that they were initally marketed as a sort of Duran Duran but later on they went sort of ambient jazzy, if that means anything. Clearly quality, but maybe a bit self indulgent. Or maybe I've not listened to it properly. Good band though.
At last someone who listens to lesser known bands as well as mainstream, excellent, if i'm going to walk down memory lane, i prefer to walk with someone who listens and appreciates what their ears are telling them, to hear both music and lyrics as they meet. Have a listen to "Drops of Jupiter" by Train, "Cuddly Toy" by Roachford or "Turn the Page" by Bob Seger (this one a bit slower but the quality of song carries that), a treat you'll won't to keep repeating. Enjoy your journey, i know i am.
Since, as you say, this is a journey to find new music, got a modern day prog band that I really think you may like as well. Katatonia from Sweden. They started out as a death/doom metal band but has really found their best self as a band with the release of "Dead End Kings". I don't think you can miss with anything by them from Dead End Kings on. One of my favorite song by them, though really short, is "The One You Are Looking For Is Not Here". A Live acoustic version clip exist from their "Sanctitude" DVD/CD set. And I know you like to pull up the lyrics but haven't been able to find any that are accurate. Just thought I'd throw this one out there. [Edited....what the heck happened? Part of my original post was missing. lol]
There is NO comparison to No Doubt's version. Hands down....Talk Talk beats them all the way around. Yes, I've seen No Doubt in concert, a few times. lol
Yeah my bad, I wrote that before I watched the entire video. Nature called if you get my drift before I watched the entire video. My apologies. I think No Doubt did a stellar cover of the song btw
Whilst I enjoyed your viewing of all 3 songs, including the 2 live versions, you really needed to articulate your thought process behind what you'd just heard. No offence intended, but I could've watched all 3 performances without you and have gotten the exact same experience. Yes, we know it's an 80's band, but there was no analysis or gauge to what you as a listener had learnt from it.
Talk Talk were marvellous when they were synthpop, were marvellous when they were psychedelic-pop, were marvellous when they were slowcore or postrock. They have always been fantastic artists and musicians since 1982 to 1991.
Ryan you have to listen to the whole concert Talk Talk Live at Montreux. Such a great performance! The concert is on YT.

Underated band , top notch !!
A life time love affair with talk talk....I was truly blessed to have seen them live......incredible!!!!!
I'm jealous!! You truly were blessed!
all concert in montreux is sensational
Their next album (The colour of spring) is where you feel they were really evolving to another "sound".
Live at Montreaux is an amazing piece of video/music. UA-cam has it listed.
Brings back a lot of memories. My parents were big fans of their music. It's cool to hear them again.
Arguably one of the best pieces of music ever written and this guys never even heard of TT!, I guess in his favour, he’s young!

The name of pianist was Rupert Blake and sorry but he died last year.... 🙁 RIP Mark and Rupert
Rupert Black I think.
I totally geeked out on Peter Gabriel as well, so love the Genesis/Gabriel stuff. Talk Talk is pretty awesome in their unique style as well, and was pleasantly surprised to see them get some love here.
Fantastic live band total quality
RIP Mark. Man, you were great.
Talk Talk’s first album is stunning from start to finish.

The drums on that tune are amazing, hypnotic.
Talk Talk, back drop to my life. Great to see you experiencing them for the first time
My favourite band and I just love this song. Mark Hollis's voice is exquisite! Such a sad loss. RIP ❤
Interesting. Nice. Thanks, I had forgotten about 'Its My Life'. Good tune, well done.

call in the night boy - my foolish friend - life's what you make it - living in another world - such a shame - please listen...
All on that concert, one of my all time favourite bands.
Drummers like animal from the muppets absolute quality

I loved so much Mark hollis
This is why 80's synth-pop is so beloved by us old folk in our 60's...
As time goes by Mark Hollis's voice becomes more and more outstanding.

Talk talk walked the walk.
its mylife on this live set in Canada is the best...there great all around.
IMO ZDF concert 21st Nov 1984 was even better .I watch it every single day Love Mark ❤💔😢

Franck Bizouard Guess now I know who bombards Tre with Steven Wilson music. No shade! 😊
@@sarahzentexas Yep! And I discuss sometimes with him he's fond of Steely Dan and Zappa too ;-)
Para mim essa música é a mais linda da Banda.
Try ' Caroline knows ' or ' Dum Dum Girl '. Great band that still holds up.
“Much better than the Gwen Steafani version, of course.”
Of course.
Absolutely. While I appreciate that she recognized what a great song it is and that she wanted to pay tribute to it, the original is so much better!
one of the best bands of the 80's you should check out Living in another World
The live version from Rotterdam is soo good.
If that doesn't hook you nothing will
Of their hits try Life's What You Make It.

Mark Hollis (..allways have been in a highest dimention)

I believe you may think you are too modern to need too appreciate. It's body language. I get it ! 👍
Ryan you might have heard "It's My Life" because No Doubt did a cover of it that was a hit in the '90s
I said it in this video ;))
Yeah my bad, I wrote that before I watched the entire video. Nature called if you get my drift before I watched the entire video. My apologies. I think No Doubt did a stellar cover of the song btw
They did. I forgive you too :0
