Congrats! That's a pretty good haul for only $40!
Thank you! ✌
Zappa, Bowie, Waits, Dylan and The Dead? You did very well. Enjoy! Cheers, Jeff
Thanks man! I'm definitely enjoying them! ✌☮
You very rarely see Low by Bowie used & it's classic & a great find. It was a huge influence on Japan & Duran Duran. Listen to it at night. Liked & subscribed. Excellent purchase by you 👍
It's definitely a nightime album. Thanks for watching and subscribing :) ✌☮
Great haul! Yeah Zappa is hit or miss Waka Jawaka and Grand Wazoo are cool
Take care Brian ☮️
I'll be on the lookour for them. Thanks for watching ✌️
I'm 68, so I grew up in that era with most all those records. I was 13 when I bought my first Mothers album "Freak Out." As a young punk they were perfect for the times. "We're only in it for the money" is an all time favorite. I don't promote the use of drugs, but back in the day when there was really good pure LSD around, if you ate a tab of that, strapped on a good pair of headphones & that record, you were in for one crazy ride! I think I know ever word, nook & cranny of that album. That's how many times I've listened to it. I was very lucky to grew up in that era. I was 9 when The Beatles were on Ed Sullivan. A life changer, as it was for millions of others.
I need a copy of Freak Out. Very interesting to hear about We're only in it for the money. Everyone loves it, and I'm sure I'll get there. The Ed Sullivan performance changed my life and I watched it 50 years after it aired! Thanks for watching ✌️
"Freak Out!" was an acquired taste for me. May take a few spins to appreciate it.
@@bigbadbillb I already know I enjoy soke of the tracks on there. I think Freak Out is much more up my alley.
My favourite cut is "Help! I'm a Rock".
@@bigbadbillb I like the West Coast Pop Art Expiramental Band version
Definitely the best place to start with the Mothers is One Size Fits All. It has one of the best lineups Zappa ever worked with. Napoleon Murphy Brock, Chester Thompson, and George Duke are all in his band on that album, and it's probably the most accessible of his Mothers albums.
Thanks for the tip! I'll check it out, and keep a look out for it. Still have to listen to the live album. ✌☮
Sorin since you like Citar and Psychadelic music (i do too) i recommend listing to Boudewijn de Groot's album "Picknick".
It sounds really cool. The best tracks in my opinion are: Pickick, Cinderella and Prikkebeen.
Really enjoyed this video. great score for the money you paid!
Thanks man! I'll check it out. Thanks for watching ✌️
Killer collection!!
Thanks for watching! ✌☮
I love Low, but it is probably the Bowie album with the fewest lyrics. Side 2 just has wordless vocalizations, while Side 1 starts and ends with instrumentals. So it is quite different from a typical Bowie album. Then again, there are no "typical" Bowie albums, haha.
Hot Rats has even fewer lyrics. That's an awesome album, too. It's got that Zappa weirdness, yet there is something very accessible about it. Freak Out might be the Mothers album to start with. It ends up goddamn weird on Side 4, but it builds up gradually, which is brilliant.
Definitely not a "typical" bowie album. Hot Rats is incredible. Definitely looking for freak out. Thanks for watching ✌️
It was a MASSIVE influence on post-punk bands. Without this album there might be no bands like Joy Division, Magazine, Ultravox...and definitely was a huge influence on OK Computer/Kid A era Radiohead.
@@aurinrakkun8589 Didn't Joy Division originally call themselves Warsaw because of the track Warzsawa (which is the actual Polish name for the city)? I seem to recall that. Of course, their song Warsaw is not about the city.
Nice nice nice...did you check out the brail of your Stevie Wonder album???? I believe on the top right corner of the cover!!!!!
I didn't know about the Braille! I'll look (or feel) for it! ✌☮
wow that was a great pick up, ive got some of my best bargains buying cheap collections cheers sorin
Thanks man! Definitely gonna be buying more of these cheap collections! Got a really exciting video coming Saturday. Thanks for Watching ✌️
Yeah, the B-side of David Bowie's Low is not my thing either, but there is a track there called 'Warszawa'. Now that is something else, that one is worth paying attention...
I'll have to play it again. Thanks for the suggestion! ✌☮
Woiiftm is my favourite album of all time, youll get used to it im sure, tip with zappa is to concentrate on a different thing each time you listen, its all there for a reason
Interesting! I'll try to focus on something a different thing each time. Thanks for watching ✌️
@@sorinvinyl1523 his music may seem odd but he was a great composer and made sure everything he wanted was perfect. If you dont get something he says then search it up, its normally got some sugnificance
Nice score on the collection! I especially like the Mothers of Invention albums, We're Only In It For The Money is my fave of the lot, I know it can be a difficult listen, but I like the weirdness of it, and the song titles are just insane. Hot Rats is another favorite, fantastic album. I just picked up a copy of Waka/Jawaka, the sequel to Hot Rats, and it's also excellent. Live Dead is an awesome live album, I saw them a few times in the 70s and 80s and they were great, but I wish I could have seen them in the 60s, at least we have their live recordings from that era. Thanks for sharing this incredible haul, Sorin, can't wait to see what you find next!
I think I need to start somewhere else with the mothers. Freak Out is definitely up there on my wantlist. I'll keep an eye out for Waka/Jawaka. I would've loved to see the Dead live at any time. I heard their concerts were a full experience. Thanks for watching ✌️
start with freak out!
Will do!
My local record store doesn't even have stuff like this and this kid is getting them for $1. 😮
Yeah, that's me 😎😎
We're Only In It For The Money is among my top 10 Zappa releases. It's definitely a period release, although it remains relevant today. You can check out my video review of the album for more context if you like. Hot Rats is definitely a killer album, brilliant all the way through. Low for quite a while had been my favorite Bowie release, but Aladdin Sane regained its top billing for me. Low, however, remains an incredible addition to Bowie's catalog, he really stretches his muse with this release. Excellent dollar albums, a good way to check some of these out before committing the cash to copies in better condition.
I'll check it out when I have the time! I need to spend more time with Low. There were definitely some pretty damn nice copies of some albums in there. I'll upgrade live dead eventually. Thanks for watching ✌️
Nice result Sorin! As others have suggested Zappa's Freak Out is his most accessible. Actually has nice melodic pop songs with string arrangements but also contains out and out psych like Who Are The Brain Police...crazy for the year it was made. Definitely get Absolutely Free and Weasels Ripped My Flesh. How much is a clean Talking Book in the US? I see clean copies around the £10 mark here and the same for his other early 70s lps. Cheers Nige
I definitely need a copy of freak out. Talking book is usually a $10 album, but every time I see it, it's either destroyed or $20+. His albums definitely increased in price here. Thanks for watching ✌️
@@sorinvinyl1523 Coincidentally I just bought a really nice copy of Talking Book today for £10. Been meaning to mint up for awhile. Hope you find Freak Out soon, you'll love it I have no doubt!
Dollar Holler's!!!!! That Live Mothers was one of one's I bought when I first got into Zappa, the very first LP I bought was "Overnite Sensation". I started out liking Frank's later album's also, I didn't like 60's Mother's. Then something happened when I really started getting deep into psych, now the 60's stuff is the best to me. In time you may feel the same way, give it some time. "We're Only In It For The Money" is Franks masterpiece! All Music rates it five stars! And they rate the first two Mothers LPs at four stars, I totally agree! Since you have the copy with the Mothers sticker on the cover, that is the censored 2nd version. The copies without the sticker are uncensored. Read up on it . One part that was censored was "I will love the police as they kick the sh#t out of me on the street". See discogs for all the description of what was censored.
I gotta get Freak Out and a few other mothers albums. I'm not too into We're only in it for the money. I knew it was censored but I didn't know what was censored haha. Thanks for watching ✌️
John Wesley Harding came out in 1967 I believe. Mono pressings stopped after 1968. I have mono pressings from 1968 like The Beatles White Album, Simon and Garfunkel "Bookends" Great pickups for the price! That copy of Hot Rats is cool. I still need a clean copy of that one. Have a nice weekend Sorin. 😊
I have a few 1968 US monos in my collection. They are definitely pretty rare and usually have a high value. By late 67, mono was fading. I'm very happy with my copy of Hot Rats. You too! ✌☮
Great video! where are you selling your records you are not gonna keep?
Thank you! I sell them at my local record show.
@@sorinvinyl1523 aha, well that's a good one. Then you dont have the hassle selling them.
I hope you have seen my other reply about an Psychedelic album i really enjoy and maby you too? (Well it has a citar in it).
It is: Boudewijn de Groot - Picknick
Well thanks for the recommendations in the last video.
Some great suggestion from that video in my opinion.
@@RubenEditIT I did! Thanks for the suggestion ✌
@@sorinvinyl1523 nice!!
Don’t feel bad, I can’t get into a lot of the Mothers either. I want to like them! I think Zappa should have tried the orange sunshine
You need to listen to Tom Waits! Check out Rain Dogs, Bone Machine, Mule Variations, and the Black Rider.
I really want to like them! I knkw I enjoy Freak Out, but I don't have it yet. Maybe the orange sunshine would have helped (although I heard he was very against that stuff). I'm definitely going to listen to Tom Waits! Thanks for the recommendations! ✌☮
We’re Only In It For The Money was my favorite Mothers. Now, the munchkin vocals are a bit much. Mind Games may have some good songs but overall I think it is an overproduced session musicians turd. Live Dead is great.
Maybe I'll get it one day 🤷♂️ John put out some weird and not so great music in the 70s IMO. Although he has a fair share of great solo songs. Live Dead is definitely one of my favorite live albums. Thanks for watching ✌️
You started with the wrong album, Start out with Freak Out for a couple of weeks, then Absolutely Free for a couple of months.
I definitely did. I'll start with Freak Out when I find a copy. Thanks for watching ✌️
starting with we’re only in it for the money is a bad place, freak out, over night sensation and one size fits all are the best starting places for the mothers
I'll definitely hang on to my copy, but I'll look out for those albums. We're only in it for the money is definitely not a good place to start. Thanks for watching ✌️
Wow I’m 70 years old and I did not know that is where Judas Priest got their name! See one can always learn something from the youth of today - I love it!
I'm glad I could help you learn something new! Thanks for watching ✌️
Freak out! And weasels ripped my flesh are great mothers albums.
Definitely! I have them in my wantlist. Thanks for watching ✌️
