It's plain and simple Curry had a better team than Harden and won it. Harden only has a better team because he has an IQ high enough to run a real offense.
You can't take away his well earned MVP because Curry has a better record and then take away another one because Russ has a seemingly weaker team.

I think Russ is a great player. But he went 6-23 and had 9 turnovers. This was a terrible game. Early in Lebron's career, before he left for Miami he led a cavs team full of scrubs to the first seed. Whenever Lebron was eliminated from the playoffs with the scrub teams Skip would put all the blame on Lebron and would hate it when people said he needed more help. So why is Skip doing the opposite with Westbrook? Putting all the blame on the Thunder and saying Westbrook needs more help

Hayah7 I know LeBron plays in the weaker conference but LeBron is the best player in the world, Russ never been considered the best player in the league. He had Kd last year when they were up 3-1 and blew it...Russell top 5 or 6 player in the NBA but his bball IQ is still suspect to me..He shoot too many ill-advised shots, commit too many turnovers, Goes to the rims completely outta control, Everytime an opponent shoot a 3 He Westbrook feel the need to do same thing...Etc

So Harden in 2015 had better stats then curry and had less of a supporting cast just like westbrook. Harden was also a second seed. So now 2 years later, your telling me these fools are flipping the criteria. Poor Harden.

When Curry won 2 MVP's in a row, it didn't matter he had Draymond and Klay
When LeBron won 2 MVP's in a row in Miami, it didn't matter Bosh and Wade were his teammates
When Kobe win his MVP it didn't matter he had Odom and Gasol as teammates
When Nash won 2 MVP's in a row it didn't matter that he had Marion and Amare as MVP
But Harden having EG, Anderson, Beverley and Ariza is TOO MUCH HELP for the MVP award

LoftyXsWaGX34 last night is too obvious that wb vs d'antoni and his products(including harden)
rockets are more valuable team because of the addition of d'antoni and his shooters for successfully cleaning up harden's mess for destroying the whole team a year ago. Morey should get the credit for getting d'antoni and build the team around d'antoni system rather than harden as harden's selfish isolation style has proven to be biggest failure. It is why d'antoni and Morey deserves the coty and gmoty respectively.
Mvp should still go to Russ (historical season) or Kawhi (based on traditional past mvp winners metrics).
Don't forget mvp is for the season, not based on playoff.

National Sports media is totally disregarding how the Rockets weren't thought to have the superior team at the beginning of the season. In fact, people questioned whether or not they would even make the playoffs after the departure of Dwight and no big splash off-season free agent signings. When it came to each player's value to their team , Harden was ranked outside the top 10! Everybody was even more openly critical of the D'Antoni signing. Meanwhile, national sports media was expecting great things from Russ and the Thunder from the onset of the season, especially after the Oladipo signing. Harden changes from his career-long position of shooting guard to point guard into a new system with at least three new starters alongside him, he still manages to elevate his and their game and finish the regular season with a better team record and personal stats very similar to Russ, who's stats are openly acknowledged to have been padded whereas Harden's are achieved in the natural flow of the game. I think a lot of national media's hype for Russell Westbrook prevented them from being impartial, and made them rush to the decision on Westbrook without any real perspective on HOW these guys achieved what they did. They also just don't want to admit they were wrong. It really makes it appear as if they have something personal against Harden too. His exclusion from All-NBA teams last season was a travesty. They're doing it again this year by trying to withhold the MVP from him.

Bill Jordan the "New triple double king" by far exceeds the criteria for stats, but not wins. for the last 35yrs each mvp has had at least 50wins to go with their stats. An A+ in one class doesn't make up for a D in another if you needed at least a C to graduate.

    • @billjordan9676
      @billjordan9676 7 років тому

Invincible Shaolin Thunder have 47 wins this season. 47/50 is a 94 my dude. Not a D like you said. So he has off the charts stats and still a good amount of wins considering the amount of talent on the Thunder. Also those previous MVP's with over 50 probably decided half of those games. Russell's performance decides 99% of his teams games. The fact that he still has this many wins and accounts for so much of his teams success, proves that he is MVP.

Win or lose as a team. Instead he decided to win as an individual and now you all expect his teammates to know how to win when he's not able to do it all?

H Lu Kobe averaged 40 wins per year when he was on a trash team and putting up big numbers. Those numbers were nothing compared to what Westbrook did this year and he didn't lead his team nearly as well as Westbrook did either. So the basis of your argument makes no sense. Kobe always had help except for 3 years after shaq left and like I said, he averaged 40 wins for those three years. This is a totally different situation bc Westbrook not only had a historic individual season but also led his team to 47 wins with very little help. He's the MVP

I'm so sick of hearing this idea that harden has a much better team, at the start of the season in most predictions okc were considered the sixth or seventh best team by many, rockets were down around 14 and 15, so rockets have actually exceeded all those expectations while okc hasn't even lived up to theirs.
At the start of the season no one would be saying Gordon is a better player than oladipo, Capela wouldn't be considered better than kanter and Adams by anyone. The reason harden seems like he has much better help is because he makes the players around him better, harden brings the best of all his players out while Westbrook tries to take on too much by himself and doesn't give his players a chance to do anything. Oladipo is 24 years old and he's having the worst season of his career with Westbrook, he is still averaging 16 points like he was the season before but think about now much more he got to do with that magic team, he gets less chances with okc and is still averaging 16, if Westbrook actually got the guy into the game he could be averaging 22 a game, instead Westbrook would prefer to take 24 shots a game, 11 shots more than oladipo who takes the second most shots per game. Capela plays six less minutes than Adams and averages more points and rebounds, nene plays over 10 less minutes and averages the same amount of points and only three less rebounds, Adams rebounds should be going up since kd left but instead he has a little guard coming to take all his rebounds.
Rockets don't have better talent than okc, what rockets have is a better superstar who knows how to make all the players around him better, Westbrook is a terrific player but he is a bad leader, he has been letting the media disrespect his teammates all season and it seems so many fans are going along with that too, don't let the media fool you, Westbrook has really good talent around him that he simply doesn't know how to use and that's what makes rockets the better team.

    2. TEAM IS 3RD SEED
    3. MAKES HIS TEAM BETTER
    4.DOESNT STAT PAD
5.PLAYS GOOD AGAINST GOOD TEAMS (WESTBROOK CANT DO THAT)
6.MORE WINS (TRIPLE DOUBLES ARE JUST NUMBERS)
    7. IF HARDEN PLAYED WITH THE THUNDER, THUNDER WOULD BE 4TH
IF WESTBROOK PLAYED ROCKETS, ROCKETS WOULD BE 6TH
    8. HE MAKES HIS TEAMATES EASIER SHOOTS AND OPEN DUNKS
    9. ROCKETS BEAT:
    WARRIORS
    SPURS
    THUNDER
    GRIZZLIES
    CAVS
    WIZARDS
    CELTICS
    BULLS
    RAPTORS... AND MORE
    10. ROCKETS BETTER TEAM THAN THUNDER
    11. ROCKETS BEAT THUNDER IN SEASON 3-1
    12. HARDEN HAS ACTULLY PLAYED BETTER DEFENCE THIS YEAR
    13. HARDEN DOESNT GET 10 REBOUND CAUSE HE LETS HIS TEAMATES GET THEM
(RUSSEL WESTBROOKS TEAMATES LETS WESTBROOK GET THE REBOUNDS)
    14. THUNDER DIDNT EVEN GET 50 WINS IN SEASON
    15. HARDEN HAS 2 50 POINT TRIPLE DOUBLES
    16. HAS GOT ALOT OF 35+ POINT GAMES

I honestly think Harden is the mvp of the regular season. So because Russ averaged two more rebounds than Harden makes him mvp? Yeah, it's cool Russ willed his team to victory from double digit comebacks against the 76ers and Magic in the regular season. But did he do this against conteding teams in the regular season? No.

Harden beat the Cavs, Spurs and also the Warriors too. So what's the differenc? People like to bring up the hypothetical that switch westbrook and harden, and the rockets would just be as successful if not more. But that's not the actual scenario. The actual scenario is Harden is putting up similar numbers than Westbrook on better efficiency with more wins and doesn't have a stacked team like the warriors or cavs.

Shannon's logic makes no sense. Harden should be the MVP because Westbrook has to take more shots?
The Rockets clearly have an infinitely better supporting cast than the Thunder. In fact, they set an NBA record for most 3-pointers in a single season by a team.
The fact that Westbrook was able to get the Thunder the 6th seed in a deep Western Conference shows he should be the MVP.

All year I believed that if Russ played slightly differently their record would have been better. Not drastically better, but better. I still believe that is true, but watching the game against Houston just confirmed that the man has no help whatsoever. They couldn't even make layups or run the break well, the only time they looked dangerous was when Russ was attacking and when Roberson hit a few outside shots in a row. I wouldn't be surprised if they were swept, they have no other scorers on the team besides Russ. When Harden goes to the bench he has Lou Will and EG come on the floor and create some scoring opportunities, if KD is struggling then Steph/Klay/Draymond get some baskets and create offense, if LBJ is struggling then Kyrie and Kevin Love create some offense, Lillard has CJ, CP3 has Blake, Jimmy Butler has D-Wade. Basically in the regular season, you can win games with one primary superstar, but when it comes to the playoffs, balanced teams with numerous stars will dominate "one-man show" teams. That is why the #1 seed Boston Celtics won't make it far, they rely too heavily on IT, the same way that the Thunder rely too heavily on Westbrook.

Russells play doesn't make people better sort of like kobe, I agree with you there Harden is a better teammate but with the cast Russell has I think they playing to their max and if Russell doesnt get the triple double their chances of winning are slimmer. Like when kobe HAD to take 25, 30 shots, they have nobody really. Harden can get 20, 5, and 5 and they win

Westbrook also increased his points but he is trying to fill the void that Kevin Durant has left. They both increased there stats from last season to this season but are in different situations so they do different things. I just don't get how people call Westbrook stat padding when he literally has to do everything for that team to win the game where as James Harden doesn't (still needs to do a lot but not anywhere near the same as Westbrook.)

The Houston Rockets were projected to finish 11th this year. They lost Dwight and gained Eric Gordon and Ryan Anderson, two offensive players who do nothing to help Houston's defense, they had no legit big man, so it was basically going to be just Harden. Meanwhile, the Thunder were projected to finish 7th, with some solid big guys in Steven Adams and Enes Kanter as well as the additions of Illyasova and Oladipo to go along with their old supporting cast.
Houston finished 3rd, OKC finished 6th.
And now, everyone says Harden has better help. Look, Eric Gordon and Ryan Anderson were never expected to be this good. Capela, Nene, Beverly, all have played much better than they were expected to. Coincidence? I think not. Thank Harden and thank D'Antoni.

Hero Miles then who's the rockets second best player? Williams, the 6th man for the lakers? Gordon who was mediocre for New Orleans with Holiday and Davis? Anderson was injured half the season? Harden made his team better. I'll take Oladipo, Kanter, Adams over all those three I just mentioned. Westbrook doesn't utilize his teammates, which is why they can't do better with him, which also explains why Durant left.

But the Thunder was projected to have a better record than Rockets before the season started.

Ultimate Venom Harden's teammates are all better shooters. Great 3-pt. shooting gives you a whole new dimension and completely changes the game with how much spacing it creates and how much those extra points add up. Just look at Golden State. Almost every team in the league has been forced to adapt.

This isn't even a fair comparison. Harden has been playing under D'antoni who is 10x the coach that Billy Donovan is and made Nash and Stoudemire who they were. Westbrook has had to deal with losing the biggest helps to his team in KD and Ibaka all in one year.
