Then in other words if every shot is a foul then in reality a shooter should just shoot the ball even if the defense is chest to chest. He would be fouled, have no landing area, and possibly get a shot off. There's no realistic way of defending a shot under those rules.
Shadow the Hawk You’re supposed to contest straight up. It’s really easy not to get called for a foul on jumpshots. Warriors are really straddling the fence
The only thing that matters most for me, is that when a defender lands with his feet under the shooters feet it should be a foul. (What happend on klay defending the shot agains harden) I have my own experience ripping my tendons in my ankle because of a defender jumping under my jumpshot. The nba needs to make it clear that you can NOT land under a jumpshot when defending. I do believe that when green went for the shot contest it was harden who threw his feet forwarth on purpose to get a foul. I think harden should worry more about his own health and let the officials do the rest when its landing under a shooter.
kenny’s logic is flawed because he’s suggesting that all shots made by a “shooter” should be that of a free throw where the opponent can only compete with the defensive rebound..a shooter would therefore prefer the free throws than actually making the shot...
4:28 - Klay was defending well, but James needs separation, so he pushed off Klay (Offensive foul - Harden) 4:29 - After push off Klay, goes up to contest, since James is going for the jumper after push off 4:30 - Klay's moment carried into landing space of James (Shooting foul - Klay) If this play was reviewed, it should be called Offensive foul on Harden, since that's the first foul of the play
@Wikkitt Klown Just for lulz. ESPN comentator at GSW LAC was so dumb. I don't remember, who says it first, but they both about minute, or so discuss how Durant is bad at rules. Durant lost the ball from 2 hands and dance around ball to protect it, and don't touch to avoid double dribble. This 2 genius (one of em even was GWS coach) keep talking about "you can take ball at any time" and why Durant play is unnecessary.
Same situation with Danny Green covering Jimmy Butler. Except Danny went vertical and Jimmy jackknifed his legs forward. So it’s shouldn’t have been a foul.
Lets not contest the shooters kenny.Or we shouldnt even breath on them. We should pay respect to them and be sorry for being on the same court with them.Klays contest is a faul but cp3 and harden on the last shot were kicking.
the irony of shaq making fun of chuck for getting all the calls, but he knows deep down one of his rings is on his fingers was gifted rather than earned
imo the rule should be smth like u cant step into where the shooter jumped off of, otherwise it's just impossible to defend good 3 point shooters (especially that double step back from Harden ). There is no problem with jumping forward a lil bit when shooting long range shots, but sometimes it is just too much, and unnatural. Maybe i'm biased, since i hate that "playing to get fouled". That's just not my idea of how basketball is supposed to be played.
What’s annoying is all ballers know that if you got the defenders leaning and jumping at your every shot - do a PUMP FAKE ! They could actually gotten some calls that way
If the league is indeed making that much profits, invest them back in the games and put in 1 or 2 more officials per playoff game or high leverage games during regular season. In addition, change the rules on this in the name of protecting the players if the league really care about players' health and want to prevent Kawhi Zaza incident. If the defender is closing the gap in multiple small steps towards the shooter, while torso remains vertical and his feet are also in the landing area of the shooter, like Klay and Zaza did, then call it a foul no matter what. For the sake of protecting shooters' ankles. If the defender is closing the gap by a single forward leap, while the hand in the air and torso have a visible angle leaning forward towards the shooter, then use whatever rules that are already in place.
They wouldn't be under his feet if he wasn't jumping into that area. He's shifting his legs into the radius of where their feet and body will be closing out
I dont get that logic that people are mad. Some people will just randomly shoot the ball when being guarded and throw themself into the defender and say that's a foul. That's something I dont understand, i dont know why they're making this into such a big deal although it is wrong.
These players know where the shooters are landing. They're intentionally invading the shooter's space which includes the landing. That's dirty. And I wouldn't be surprised if this was something Steve Kerr or Warriors management cooked up. If I take a jumpshot and I know these players are going to have their feet under me, it would mess with my psyche and throw off my shot, let alone injure me.
Goes both ways. I wouldn’t be surprised if Houston practices jumping forward for every jump shot. How do you take 3 steps back, shoot and land a whole foot forward.?
The problem comes from the term landing space, it’s not about where you land it’s about where to take off from, if you move from that spot than it’s your responsibility to not jump on things that could hurt your ankles, the foul needs to occur when someone moves under where you took your shot from, floppers deserve techs, they make the game weak, the same sort of weakness these guys always complain about
I can give you at least 4 position in that game Rockets defence did same thing and refs didn't call it but somehow people just talk about Harden's because we all know he plays for getting fouls and when he couldn't, he cries
didnt they make kicking your feet out to create contact illegal cause of what reggie miller used to do. harden kicked his legs which went against the rule idgaf what anyone says they made a rule and they gotta stick too it.
Come on man, give shooters more space. You wonder why ratings are down and then we have to take the defenders out - no hand checking, give the shooter a 6 ft circle to land. I mean do we really want 3 point jackers begging for a foul.. What Harden is doing is bad for the game and I'm pretty happy that some of these were no calls. He's not looking to make a play, he is looking to draw a foul.
All guys complaining about the NBA being soft should think how good the NBA would be if all the best players were out with broken ankles. I get not penalising the physical contact too much but throwing your legs under the shooter isn't good defense nor a technically correct play. The truth is that stricter rules don't mean less defense, rather better defense. Great defenders are quick on their feet and don't need to push, grab or make dirty plays to effectively contest a shot. Nostalgics need to go back and see all the complaints that were made about the Bad Boy Pistons and even Rodman who is now considered an example of great defender, people were complaining about pushes, hits and uncalled fouls.
Even if the refs missed 4 calls, guess what? They gave Harden and the Rockets about 400 calls throughout the regular season that they shouldn't have gotten. So I have no sympathy for them sorry.
Thats the issue. You cant officiate differently in the post season than the regular season. “The players want consistency”. Either call it every time or dont at all.
the nab admits they missed 3 calls in the last 2 minutes alone that all would of helped the rockets lol..not to mention the 5 illegal screens the warriors do per quarter and get away with
Rule was made to keep defenders from jumping into the shooter and denying him a place to land...It was not made to allow the shooter to jump, shoot and then whip his legs into the defender and cry about being fouled...When the offensive player is initiating contact by leg whipping or jumping into the defender then the offensive player is the one committing the foul...Harden needs to quit crying about a tactic he developed or the NBA is going to clue in quickly and change the rule to stop this ridiculous exploitation of what the rule was originally written for...
JH n CP- use the move to their advantage- its refs officiating during reg season that confuses me- refs letting players play in finals is breathe of fresh air
kenny smith has no idea what he is talking about. you cant reward a guy for missing a shot on purpose just to exaggerate his movement to draw a foul. the defender shouldnt lunge forward but also the offensive player shouldnt be lunging on their shot and positioning their feet to land in the are of the feet of the defender to manipulate the officiating into giving him calls. harden does a masterful job at it seems as though every new rule change or protection for the offensive player james harden finds a new way to manipulate it in his favor. at some point the forward leg kicks should be called offensive fouls because the shooter isnt protecting himself and is trying to deceive officiating into thinking his landing space is being compromised. i want rockets to win this series and be done with the warriors but at some point they have to stop whistle hunting and look to make their shots. man up take real contact and stop acting.
I seen in alot of games when harden hits his stepback the ref 99% of the time let's the defender recover however they can because harden always throws his shoulder or pretty much does borderline offensive foul type move before the stepback so instead of calling it they let the defender close as much as he needs to without touching him anybody else idk but that's how they been reffin james
None of the them know basic physics ? It not like any of it deliberate events as end result. but rather angles of body at initial start and compensation that follows. Foul or not foul should be determined by time and angles of contact and landing spot need to be judged in relation to starting position, long jumpers to consider as example. So if compensation taking 9 meters to full stop who is foul is that ?
Also watch hit foot when he reaches the peak of his shot formation, looks good its vertical. Now, look when hes coming down you can see his leg jut out forward and his body falling backwards. Enough said. No foul. He boutta hurt himself.
Eventually the NBA will remove man to man defense and games will be 160 points high

4:29 - After push off Klay, goes up to contest, since James is going for the jumper after push off
4:30 - Klay's moment carried into landing space of James (Shooting foul - Klay)
If this play was reviewed, it should be called Offensive foul on Harden, since that's the first foul of the play
Tell 'em Chuck!
Honestly how does Kenny still have a job
Charles and Shaq just needs to go at it because it’s obvious they don’t like each other.
That's why I love them. It makes for great TV.
Shaq was just about to say Bulls**t! 😂😂
person guarding harden: breathes
Harden: “wheres my call?!”
I don’t understand how the defender can’t jump forward but the offense of player always jumps forward that’s counterintuitive
Harden is throwing his legs under his defenders on purpose, that’s not his normal shooting form.
JTrain On the last one, yes.
The rest were normal shooting motions.
Most players jump forward on jumpshots, not up and down.
If you played basketball, you know it was not a foul. And if you think it was a foul you simply do not play the game of basketball
Tips from James: during a layup, grab a arm from the defender. During a shoot, grab a leg.
Cry when you dont get the call
Same situation with Danny Green covering Jimmy Butler. Except Danny went vertical and Jimmy jackknifed his legs forward. So it’s shouldn’t have been a foul.
Best show in sports
Charles always go off the point
Lets not contest the shooters kenny.Or we shouldnt even breath on them. We should pay respect to them and be sorry for being on the same court with them.Klays contest is a faul but cp3 and harden on the last shot were kicking.
Kenny Said it best . Plain and simple
After listening to Kenny smith i think hes the one having a bad day tonight
Somebody please help me understand. When your contesting up under the goal contesting a shot. Vs a three pointer. Why I'd it different.
the irony of shaq making fun of chuck for getting all the calls, but he knows deep down one of his rings is on his fingers was gifted rather than earned

imo the rule should be smth like u cant step into where the shooter jumped off of, otherwise it's just impossible to defend good 3 point shooters (especially that double step back from Harden ). There is no problem with jumping forward a lil bit when shooting long range shots, but sometimes it is just too much, and unnatural. Maybe i'm biased, since i hate that "playing to get fouled". That's just not my idea of how basketball is supposed to be played.
If the rockets would've and curry fouled out like the nba said Kerr would've been up there complain about the refs
Kenny is dead wrong. The first 3 are fouls, for sure. The last one is absolutely 100% not a foul!
Kenny, you wrong brah! The guy explaining was right 1st one was a foul they missed and the last one wasn't
I can't decide who's the better flopper, harden or cp3.....
Wait didn't the warriors send a tape to the refs because of Patrick Beverley last series?
You can tell Chuck doesnt agree with Shaq and Kenny even at the end and he is right.
What’s annoying is all ballers know that if you got the defenders leaning and jumping at your every shot - do a PUMP FAKE !
They could actually gotten some calls that way
7:50 i know Shaq ain’t talking about refs lol. How quickly one forgets game 6 lakers vs Kings
Anything that happens after the ball leaves your hands does not affect whether the shot goes in or not. Kenny is wrong.
If the defender is closing the gap by a single forward leap, while the hand in the air and torso have a visible angle leaning forward towards the shooter, then use whatever rules that are already in place.
the only one which is a foul is where clay takes a second step to close out every other one is a kicking leg by the shooter^^
"It's the same one.."-kenny= dum dum.
They wouldn't be under his feet if he wasn't jumping into that area. He's shifting his legs into the radius of where their feet and body will be closing out
It should be an offensive foul to lean in like that if anything
I dont get that logic that people are mad. Some people will just randomly shoot the ball when being guarded and throw themself into the defender and say that's a foul. That's something I dont understand, i dont know why they're making this into such a big deal although it is wrong.
Bad calls doesn't excuse the bad defense.
I miss when 2k use to have this type of weekend show like on 2k college hoops why dont the do it for 2k it was an optional end of week show
Pretty cool that Ernie could talk to VP of Referee Development. No way the NFL allows that
If u have to sell it it shouldn't be called a foul.
This is crazy. If they’re allowed a landing place jumping forward then they’re gonna jump way forward. It’s gonna be more and more exaggerated.
There is no "D" in "NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION". But there are three "O"s.
Can you not go up to defence anymore?
Ernie is the best moderator in the business
hes also a total warriors fan...smdh....I hope curry kisses him like he wants him to...
Bruh... Harden initiated contact on every single one of those plays
didnt they make kicking your feet out to create contact illegal cause of what reggie miller used to do. harden kicked his legs which went against the rule idgaf what anyone says they made a rule and they gotta stick too it.
Either call it every time or dont at all.
the nab admits they missed 3 calls in the last 2 minutes alone that all would of helped the rockets lol..not to mention the 5 illegal screens the warriors do per quarter and get away with
@@razkable lol, keep crying dude
Track is ridiculous.
Shaq: One has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws. MLK
JH n CP- use the move to their advantage- its refs officiating during reg season that confuses me- refs letting players play in finals is breathe of fresh air
kenny smith has no idea what he is talking about. you cant reward a guy for missing a shot on purpose just to exaggerate his movement to draw a foul. the defender shouldnt lunge forward but also the offensive player shouldnt be lunging on their shot and positioning their feet to land in the are of the feet of the defender to manipulate the officiating into giving him calls. harden does a masterful job at it seems as though every new rule change or protection for the offensive player james harden finds a new way to manipulate it in his favor. at some point the forward leg kicks should be called offensive fouls because the shooter isnt protecting himself and is trying to deceive officiating into thinking his landing space is being compromised. i want rockets to win this series and be done with the warriors but at some point they have to stop whistle hunting and look to make their shots. man up take real contact and stop acting.
at some point it got lost that where jump on ur jumpshot is where u should land. straight up straight down.
Harden with offensive push offs, AND U CAN SEE HIM FALLING DOWN MID SHOT HES DOING IT EVERY TIME
he soft and crying cuz now he aint getting those precious freethrows
None of the them know basic physics ? It not like any of it deliberate events as end result. but rather angles of body at initial start and compensation that follows. Foul or not foul should be determined by time and angles of contact and landing spot need to be judged in relation to starting position, long jumpers to consider as example. So if compensation taking 9 meters to full stop who is foul is that ?
Also watch hit foot when he reaches the peak of his shot formation, looks good its vertical. Now, look when hes coming down you can see his leg jut out forward and his body falling backwards. Enough said. No foul. He boutta hurt himself.
