I had two of the Grace radios quit working because of this. I definitely would never buy from the Grace company again after this since there was no work around and they are not getting more $$ from me. ive been using an old cell phone for internet radio since then and it works fine. I'm not sure I'd buy any internet radio again since I don't trust that this can't happen again. My Grace Mondo has an AUX plug, so I can still use the speakers with a cell phone or the usb slot in the back. My older Grace radio had none of that, so I believe I threw that one in the trash...
@orionsector I am leery of Grace digital products as well. This has happened on other platforms such as C Crane. Of course Wi-Fi radios have to connect to a server. (Recieva was shut down) In Grace digital's case they simply shut the server down and started over with a new one affecting other platforms like C Crane too.Making (many)radios obsolete should never happen or creep up over the course of a year even! It's very bad business and I haven't come back since. Like yourself I utilize my phone for internet radio now. There's one thing I've learned from reading about the Recieva server shut down, is that any of these servers can face forced manage shutdowns and there are no explicit guarantees there saying any functioning server will always be there for the radio that works with it. Basically that much will always be true regardless of what platform or server is in use, it can face a managed shut down at some point there would be many reasons for it, similar to Recieva. As understandable as that might be from a point of view, it just became a deal-breaker for me."the weakest link in the chain" We just never know. Grace lost my business because I haven't gone back. This could happen to any Wi-Fi radio and it's server. I also lean towards more reliable streaming methods. An old PC streaming other forms of internet radio work best for me. Cheers :-)
Are in the same boat you are. Mondo quit working because reciva was no longer available. Contacted Grace in San Diego and they offered me the new model I believe it was Mondo elite for a special price, 30 % off the regular price. The new radio would cost me $130.(not including tax). (offer good only through 2022) The other day I saw an offer from Amazon and they are selling the Mondo for $180 but if you sign up for their card you would get a one time $60 off the price which reduces the cost to $120. Tempted to do it, except that I already own three credit cards and also purchased an inexpensive Ocean digital for $60. It is not a Mondo, sound and volume are not the same, and it has only 3 preset buttons. It operates on the Skytune platform and this cheap WR23D gets the job done. Only battery- operated and no remote control.
I agree, went on ebay to buy one but many did put it as a disclaimer, I did not know about the shutdown I had grace for a long time. Loved it. Than had a Sanyo . Wish there was a way to hack them
OK, I know this video may be a year old now, but I have a "newer" Mondo+ that is a GDI-WH.... model. I have recently lost connection to servers. Nothing updates, no time, date nothing. I know it's connected to the internet and my router because I can stream music from my PC using uPNP and AUX in works etc. I just get an error that it cannot connect to server. Hoping it's just my radio having issues. I even did a factory reset. Nope. Anybody else?
I do not believe I will buy another Grace product again, it would have taken them nothing but a little extra programming to add the legacy devices into their new server platform on their end. This is just a ploy to sell a bunch of new radios. I have seen other manufacturers do this same crap.
There are, in fact, user-generated hacks to get the pre-2017 internet radios to work, so--obviously--Grace *could* have put out a firmware patch to do so themselves, *if they wanred to*. They didn't want to.
@animalcorvair Hi, you right about Logitech shutting their servers down. This is a real shame because it happens to many radios on different platforms too. It's a real shame. You have my sympathies.... I still haven't replaced my Grace Digital radio.

I have mine still working, but I didn't do any firmware updates as they asked. But it works only on preset stations I had set it up.

Did Grace tell potential customers back then that its possible their radio's could become worthless anytime? NO .F grace.

Loved mine but now it’s become just a $180 clock 😢
