I was lead designer on this game and I speak confidently on behalf of the UFG crew that this was the best game we have all worked on in the industry. We had a great team, and everyone was really passionate about making a great karting title. It’s fun to go back and see the love for the game so many years later here on UA-cam. Great video, and I’m glad it brought so much joy to folk.
Thank you so much for making this game. This was one of my favourite games in my late teens/early 20s. I loved the play, create, share aspect of LBP but I could never get into that game when creating stuff or even just playing it. This came along and it was perfect. The game side of it was amazing and then the creation side added more to a game that was pretty good on its own. I was always hoping for a second full game. When I found out UFG was making Sleeping Dogs, I got excited because I thought these guys deserve to become bigger and be more successful. It bummed me out so much when I heard about the studio getting shut down. Thank you for the memories

That airtime challenge and espresso race were the Bain of my existence, but once you beat them man, you were on top of the world
You just have to double jump before you hit a jump 😂. On the big one he showed in the vid, you can get 1129 points from it. Ive done it on an emulator today

ModNation Racers, Blur and Split/Second were the Holy Trinity of wacky awesome racing game of the 2010's. ENDLESS hours of my friends playing them every single weekend, with up to 30 hours of non-stop sessions 'till we drop dead screaming and laughing

i was trying to remember what this game was called, been thinking about it for weeks, me and my brother used to play it all the time, so much nostalgia
This game was my childhood. It brings me so many good memories thinking of it. I still never completed the third challenge of Dire cliffs (´-﹏-`；). This is a game I'll never forget, as it was amazing. No game I've played came close to the amount of enjoyment I've felt playing this day and night. Here's to Modnation Racers, a racing game different from all others.
I've been trying to go through this game to get 100% for so many challenges for ages and i'm still struggling lol. But regardless of that though ModNation Racers still holds a special place in my heart despite it's difficulty curves in places.
Yall are so damn wrong. Kartrider came way before modnation and Kartrider rush on phone is an incredibly amazing game surpassing Modnation in terms of mechanics.
Nobody gives it a chance in the West though since they think its P2W or a gacha game, even though its really not.
This game consumed my entire childhood, I've been playing since the beta came out back in 2009 and I remember all the times where I used to make a lot of creations and just chilling in the modspot with friends. The Story was nice, the Difficulty varies from being easy to punishing at some parts and even though there are some stuff I'd love to have (customization wise), the game still holds a special place in my heart. This is a great video, definitely deserves more recognition.
Also as some people already said, servers are being revived eventually so if you want to stay in touch, you can visit the discord of the game, a dream come true if you ask me.
Thanks man and yep this game will always be one that i'll remember from my childhood as well. So much stuff that i look back at and think wow they were kind of ahead of curve in a lot of aspects. Just an overall fun arcadey experience.

I'm glad someone decided to create a brand new server (even though Millions of Creations are no longer present).
My fingers are crossed that Sony is announcing a new version for PS5, because this game is by far the best kart game ever.

@@llNickzll Unfortunately online racing is not back as of yet, but hopefully in the future that can become a thing. For now you can see and play other people's creations.

Sony looking to make 10 live service games by 2026.. a ModNation Racers game would be perfect for that with so much more they could add with more challenges as well as online options
This game was so great. I remember getting into those online lobbies and racing for hours with tons of usually friendly people. There were so many cool karts and tracks to play on, then there were the terrible ones that were still fun in their own hilariously goofy ways. Every race was different and exciting, and it is still my favorite karting game, and perhaps racing game, of all time.
3:30 Speedrunner here, this objective is actually a push over when you realise that any grassy hill is also a ramp. I usually complete this objective before the end of lap 2

Damn I was looking at my old PS3 games that wre hidden in my house, when I found out Modnation Racers. I was then searching for actualities about the game and how to play it on PC but I found this video, which I didn't think was possible to see. Very great content, you perfectly summed it up, it was for sure one of the best games that has ever been released imo. I miss the times where we were chilling online and stunting on the ModSpot and when I was creating hell of Minecraft mobs that have been famous as hell after. What I liked also on this game was the packs that you could buy, which included exclusive items for cars, mods and tracks, that was just so good. Definitely one of the most underrated racing games of all time

The online play is coming back through some player-initiated servers. It’s limited to the share feature in the creation station right now, but the organizers are hoping to have casual online races back up soon.

Back when I was a kid and needed a creative outlet, this game was perfect
I loved it!! It was my favorite game on PSP!! I can clearly remember getting out of my room and sitting on the stairs to have better wifi connection while playing online :D the customisation possibilities were endless which is very rarely to see nowadays and the music was on point! Overall such a nice game! Thanks for the vid!
I thought this video would be not that good because of the views and your subscribercount but i thing i just found a hidden gem. Not only the topic wich is so nostalgic for me but the jokes, the way that you speak and of course the topic are great. I love the chapter loading screen as a little touch and that you took the time and did that chapter thingy with the video itself is also great. This is would be a video id imagine from an account with a loooot more subscribers. I wish you the breakthrough you deserve and keep on going! Make sure that your topics are interesting and you keep it entertaining!

@@Jazative no problem man. I never played online but i loved the level creator and the single player. I spent so many hours with my friends building tracks and seeing who would be the fastest. Sad to hear that they shut down the servers
The only two things this game really lacked for me was vinyl mirroring in the livery editor (might sound like a small thing, but is actually huge for most creators) and more music variety. The music that was there was absolutely fantastic, but when there are so few tracks in a game that incentivises so much play time, it feels really stale after a while.
I absolutely loved this game to death though.
Great news, the share-station works on the private servers and the multiplayer is in the works!
One of my favorite PlayStation 3 games on my top 5 list like littlebigplanet, skate 3 etc. Modnation racers was so good because of how unique and good the car feels but it is at a really hard difficulty.
I first played this game in the summer of 2010 when I was 5 years old and I received it from game fly(if you remember that service you’re an OG) I still can’t believe how it holds up one of the goats in gaming history in my opinion

I have this game and BOY do I love it a lot more than Mario Kart. I love how you can use stickers to make anyone or anything your playable character and take on the Elite Racers (I know they are called Elite Mods.). The main elites I had trouble unlocking as a grudge match were Hale, Iceman, and Jez. I can never reach the Grandstands to get to Hale and hit him before he's gone.

I used to love this game. I recently looked it up again to see why a sequel hasn't been released. I did not know United Front shutdown. So I guess sleeping dogs wont be getting a sequel either. Shame
Yep it's a shame that a studio with so much talent and passion will never get around to making a sequel for any of their beloved games like ModNation Racers and Sleeping Dogs.

Dude this game was amazing fun and it was just endless possibilities but when it came down to career it was a love hate relationship like I fucking hated it cause the challenges and the bosses but once you get it done it is such a relief and you can relax before you lose your mind again but I love this game and I wish it would come back my number one favorite game

5:57 They actually had to nerf the ai in an update because people found the game to be too difficult. There's an option in the menu to change difficulty if you want.

This game got me into game development. I cringed hard when you mentioned spending... half... the time in the creation station. More like 99% for me.

I have only played Modnation Racers roadtrip (I think it's the sequel) for the PSVita, and I played it EVERYTIME, it is a really fun game, sadly I lost the charger of my PSVita somehow and I can't play it un less I found one in a store. Anyways, Modnation Racers is a really fun and creative game and seeing it's server shutdown was really sad but it was fun while it lasted.
You actually get something from playing online,but you have sign in the psp verison of game too in order to get the reward, you get a rare head gear and have to races against a sercet character in the game story but you have to do it twice

The grudge match against drillbit was sooooooooooooo hard I tried for weeks but I finally completed it, it was the hardest part of the game in my opinion but I 100% the game
For me the hardest part was the ONE challenge with Iceman's track where I had to go the whole race without hitting a wall.... Either that, or the Nato's explosives challenge

I would like to let it be known that the online for this game has recently came back and is possible through private dns servers on native ps3s. As far as i know though it's just mods and karts that can be downloaded and uploaded to creation station as the xp system and online races are not yet implemented but are planned to be a thing. Also yes for those wondering native ps3 trophy support does work on the private server for the parts of online that are actually functioning. If anyone has any questions let me know and i can respond with everything i know currently.

That was going to be apart of the original video but i decided not to because i didn't have much to say about it. Although i have very fond memories of it because that was the first PSP game i played.
I just ordered my copy of Modnation Racers PSP on EBay. It will be the first time I played this game since 5-6 years ago. I can really understand why you didn’t have much to say about the Psp version, it’s literally just the PS3 game, but made for the psp, but it’s still a really good game for the psp.
i remember a friend i met on my old ps3. then we got a ps4 and the old one stopped working, i miss him.

Actually, you could earn XP online by publishing and using your own mods/karts. Even if no one else downloaded them, you earned create XP for every race you completed while using them. Also, some fans are bringing back a server for it! Its only creations right now (no online races, modspot, or XP as of now), but they are working on it. I can't wait until they complete it. I always loved this game. I always played it online. I could play for hours. It's a shame this game isn't better-known.
I don't know why i didn't think that would've been another way of earning XP. It must've exited my mind when i was finishing up that section of the video. I'm currently working on a few videos, one of them being about the online being brought back for ModNation Racers. Even in it's limited form it's still cool to see such an underrated gem being brought back to life in some capacity. Hopefully online racing will eventually become a reality in the future.

I never played this but it'll be nice if they do a sequel. I hope for littlebigplanet karting sequel as well since I haven't played that either. Mysims racing & pac-man world rally are underrated.

LittleBigPlanet Karting was supposed to be a ModNation Racers Sequel but they scrapped it and turned it into the Game we know today sadly…
now honestly i had some fun with this game modnation racers was like mario kart but better i really wish they would bring this game back as either a rerelease of a remaster for both ps4 & ps5
now what i think is underrated are the 2 sonic rivals games that was released on the psp sonic rivals releasing on november 16 2006 & sonic rivals 2 releasing on november 13 2007 now these 2 can either be rereleased remastered or remade with the story being told differently & gameplay to match the story of each character
If we can't get a sequel i'm hoping for some kind of remaster as well.
