I think one key element of a project that sometimes is overlooked is to actually enjoy the process, the good, the easy, the hard and the even the not so good aspects of it. Many times we feel the pressure of finishing a project as quick as possible and we forget to enjoy the experience. That is when things go south and frustration rears its ugly head.

a project without a plan is just a dream!.
find what needs to be done and start working, even if its just 1 thing a month.
with baby steps you can cover huge distances over time
just like when a kid disappears on you:
turn your head couple minutes and the kid is gone,
while you where screwing around doing whatever,
the kid wanted to be somewhere and took baby steps towards that place, arrived , and enjoyed every moment of it!
    BE THE KID!

Thanks Pierre. As said by Gustavo enjoying it as you go is a major thing. As you know I'm slowly working through my 6.3 project and I'm having a blast. The thought of saving this old Mercedes and then using it is the incentive. Also completing different aspects I feel is important and not getting to spread out on different Jobs. I have the engine and trans out. But I threw a cover on it and decided to concentrate on finishing up the rear axle and front subframe. Then systematically working through the underbody rust issues. Trust me, once I pull that cover off, I'm sure you'll be hearing from me:):) Cheers John.

Rule #1 for restoring a car: Never add up your receipts.

I have a ‘76 450 SE that is definitely in the easy project category. Looking forward to seeing your next videos.

As a teacher one told me “it’s like eating an elephant, you do it one bite at a time”
My 380SL is probably a moderate project. Missing most of its K-Jet system and has some rust, no serious rot. Wheel wells and arches are thankfully solid. Same for the bulkhead. Little bit of surface rust.
I’m hoping to slowly get it back on the road sometime soon and enjoy it

Chicken is much more practical to raise per pound. Less chewy as well and doesnt have that weird elephant taste we are all so familiar with.

Guess my 300D falls into a "small" project category... Except I made a list of things wrong with the car already and it's about 40 line items. And, that's 40 line items with things like subframe bushings, brakes, or suspension. Body and frame are in great shape, she's just hungry for parts and time, which add up quickly. Guess that's what happens when you pay 2k for a car though... I knew what I was signing up for 🤣

This is why it's often better to find a nicer example to fix up with an obvious main problem. My 1987 420SEL needed the transmission replaced and the AC compressor replaced but everything else is great and cosmetically it's fantastic. Even if more was wrong with it I couldn't argue with $1200 for the car, $260 for the AC compressor, and a $500 transmission to have a running driving W126 with cold ac.

@@Hedonistic0Frog sure, but most of the stuff is liveable and loveable. I still drive and enjoy the car. It's all just stuff I'd like to do at some point. The cosmetic thing that bothers me the most is either the tear in the arm rest, or the saggy headliner. Does it detract from the experience of driving the car? Not at all. Your point is a valid one though. If I had found one with a blown trans and nothing else for cheap, I probably would have done that instead.

Im currently installing a Becker BE1432 radio/tuner upgrade on a 1986 300SDL which came with I believe with a BE754. Head unit is powered up, OEM fader harness with both amplifiers that go behind the rear seat back rest and radio to tuner harness (in trunk) on hand from a junk yard 1991 350SDL. Front seats, rear seats, center console and floor carpets have to come out to properly install it.
Pierre, is it possible to make a video on how to find wiring diagrams on WIS/ASRA. Cannot find any wiring diagrams at all.

    How to restore W140s?

  • @JamesParus
    @JamesParus 2 роки тому +1

You need a car that has already frustrated and bankcrupted one or two restorers. Car could finally give in.

    Just a friendly suggestion.
If you want more people to see your videos, spell out the words instead of saying "CMB" in the title. As written, anyone on UA-cam who is looking for info on restoring their car, and does a search using the words "restore" "classic" and "Mercedes," will not be directed to this video.
