    You're the only AA thrower with a banner stone. Nobody else seems to use them. Good job keeping your tools closest to authenticity, for North America. Impressive. 👍

    I want an Irish Atlatl. 1 end throws a dart and the other a javelin. One end with thorn and the other a Y with string and knot between or bead. They also made the Y to cup a pointed or ball ended javelin. An atlatl was for both darts and spears/javelins. It's why I think they made caps for spears ends is to use atlatl.

    Well - we DO have a columbia river here in BC so that would likely be correct ;)

  • @bbharim

    An improvement, that I'm sure some smart ancestors thought of, is to twist the feathers to make the dart rifle, and then to make the two fingered atlatl such that the thrower spins the dart, in the same direction of course. I think, but you have to experiment, that the index finger stays in its loop just a hair longer than the thumb or middle finger, and the thrower points at the target at follow through. The weight in the front of the atlatl is also precisely engineered, so the atlatl bends slightly, releasing its spring at launch. the dart launches as a bent arc, releasing its spring at launch. This is a perfect engineering opportunity for rifling, which is why my mind jumps to it.

    If the spur could articulate a bit, couldn’t you maintain contact with the spear for longer and get more energy into the throw? I’m not hunting. I just want to throw as far as possible so accuracy isn’t important.

    Отличные изделия. Неплохо бы ввести охоту с историческим оружием. Тем более сейчас можно не на диких зверей, а роботизированые мишени к примеру на механического мамонта из балистического силикона с иметацией внутренних органов с такой копьеметалкой. Такая охота была бы весьма популярной.

    Aht-LAH-tl is so Nahuatl "Na-WAH-tl". Think of Quetzalcoatl, "Ket-sul-kuh-WAH-tl", Apollo; Xochiquetzal, "Show-chee-KET-sal," the goddess Aphrodite; Xolotl, "Sho-LOW-tl", Thor; and Xoalitlmor, "Show-a-Iittle-MORE", Venus scantily clad. Okay I made the last one up.

    It is AHT-LAHT! The ending L is where the tongue rests when the word is complete. Chipotle should be CHIP-OHT. Again, the L is silent. Yup, I spent some time amongst the tribes in central America. Yeah. I know this is ten years past, but the Mayan language is much older. 😉

    • @bbharim
      @bbharim Рік тому +1

      In most states you need an atlatl license, then use is restricted to atlatl hunting season, which occurs 3 hours before bow hunting season begins. Atlatls must be state approved, tagged, may not be modified, and must be hunter orange. Using two atlatls requires two licenses. Fishing with an atlatl requires a separate license. Hunting vermin with an atltatl is unrestricted, but darts may not be launched in a populated area or across a road. States ending in "a" are unrestricted. Alabama, Alaska, Alberta, Arizona, British Columbia, California, Canada, Costa Rica, East Virginia, Florida, Georgia, Guatemala, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Manitoba, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Panama, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Virginia, and West Virginia. If you kin mispronounce the state with an "a", it is also unrestricted. States like Calarada, Mexica, Missoura, and Texarkana. Okay, I made all this up.

    It is pronounced "Aht Laht" - the Aztec and Mayan L at the end of a word is silent and is there to indicate where the tongue rests at the end of pronouncing.
