    Fun story. When my youngest daughter was 11 or 12, she learned about the Atlatl in school. She was fascinated with the concept and gave me a detailed lesson about it when she got home. So that weekend I took her to a weapons museum where she got to see an actual old atlatl in person. So we did the obvious thing. We spent the rest of the weekend crafting one from a piece of cedar I was saving for another project. And then the next week it was clay pot batteries...

    Matt is never in a bad mood, I can't imagine him ever being mean to anyone. THIS guy is what all the so-called hippies should be like, and I sure wish I had his outlook on life. Such a nice guy, and always humble. You designed a heck of a great knife Matt, with the Condor Primitive Mountain knife. Thanks sincerely for your kindness Matt!

    Hello Sir, I'm so pleased to have found you! I was reading about Roman archaeology and I discovered the word 'atlatl' so I googled its'meaning and pronunciation, so that lead me to you! I'm a 48 year old Irish lady but in my dreams, I want to be like Crocodile Dundee and a survivalist!!! I'd love to learn how to survive in the wild by cooking, making shelters etc it all fascinates me.

    • @meggmcmuffinnn
      @meggmcmuffinnn 6 років тому +4

      Why not teach yourself? That way when you come across someone more experienced, you won’t be a novice, and they will be more likely to stick around because they will feel as if they are helping a fellow survivalist vs holding someone’s hand. There’s a lot of great survival books out there. Just from reading and actually actively testing the knowledge you read, you’ll be surprised what you are capable of. Make sure to not only read it but DO it as well. Even if it’s in your yard. First time I successfully made a friction fire was one of the best feelings. Now it takes me 30-40 minutes at best to find supplies and actually get my fire going. I have also practiced trapping, as well as shelter building, right in my very own back yard. You know what the man him self would say “what are you waiting for? I’m teaching you every time you watch” I’m not giving up on humanity just yet, but I do feel confident that I could survive long enough in the wild to get myself established to the point of actually thriving. Who cares what your friends think. Wait till they see you and your kids constructing a wikiup in your back yard.(we mostly just got a few smiles )lol

    Man, that's so cool. I've been an archer since scouts in the 5th grade...& have evolved from the long bow to the recurve & all the compounds to evolve over time, & more recently back to the recurve.
    Having recently read "La Guerre De Feu" (Quest For Fire), I was struck by the importance of this advancement in technology. It's huge, it could make the difference. It's not a caveman tool, it's a modern technological leapfrog.
    It looks like you make your spear throwers. Was it you who adapted, or invented, the two finger prong approach.?
    Man, it's so cool, I might have to get into it, alongside my archery! Salut.

    Didn't know Matt had a channel. He was one of my favorites on Dual Survival. He always reminded me of Tommy Chong.

    I only know of the name Atlatl because in grade school my history class was learning about the Natives of Texas, and we all said "atlatl" together. For some reason that never left my memory.
