UAE brought a team of heavy hitters to the race and wore everyone down, there were only some limited breakaway attempts before Pogi lit it up. And then when he did Wellens and Del Toro still have enough energy to defend and disrupt any chase for a long time after that. When TP said he would attack on Monte Ste Marie everyone thought it was a joke as the revised course put the big climb too far away from the finish. Joke's on us, it seems.

That course is much harder than they make it look. I rode the Strade Bianche Granfondo a few years ago and it was brutal. There are open flat sections where if a gap opens on the gravel, you're not chasing back unless you have a motor like Ganna. Plus the climbs are super punchy and that final climb into Piazza del Campo is a wall.

I watched everything unfolding as you did Chris. I had the same "WTF is Quinn doing" and every other comment you made. I applaud the efforts of the 2-3 finishers as they were only held back by their DS's, when the move was made , and a crash due to Simmons inattentiveness on the climb didn't help Skujins. Although, watching him and Maxim, it was apparent who was the strongest on the day outside of Tadej. Exciting race? depends on your interpretation. I am glad the announcers were able to keep the dialog rolling to make it interesting. They only mentioned shortly after he went up the road that he hasn't always had success in these types of attacks, leading the watching public to stay glued to the tele. In the end everything finished as it should (IMO)

His dominant win is largely due to the fact the top tier of pro cyclists avoid racing each other in the early season races. His real competitors Vingegaard, Roglic, Remco, and MVDP (in a one day classic type race) were not competing and even an excellent rider like Kuss or Pidcock is in reality second tier.
In my opinion Tadej was determined to lay down a marker of his total dominance in form just like Jonas did in O Gran Camino.
In a recent interview UAE rider J Almeida let the cat out the bag by saying that the prime aim of Pogacar this year is to beat Jonas and VLB and win the TDF - he desires revenge for his loss in the last two years. It also helps that this year’s TDF has gravel sections which suits Tadej. However one worry for him has to be that while he was grandstanding with this 80km solo and finishing minutes ahead none of his UAE teammates could keep up. He cannot do 80km solos day after day in the TDF f

Nobody in the world tour rides 100psi, 60-70psi with 28-32mm tubeless is the lowest rolling resistance…

I hope he's clean. If so, it's the best rider ever. At the finish, he looked so fresh he could race back to the start.

Simmons thinking he could attack a rider like Pog is the fine line between bravery and foolishness.

So basically Tadej pulled a knuckle-head move on the peloton. Right Chris?😉

During the Tour of Connecticut I was in a super long almost 200k break with one other rider. He tired out early and then dropped with 40k to go and I was solo with the peloton close behind all day until the peloton finally cracked and I stayed away for the win. It was a good day! 👊🦋🔥

Dr Ignio San Millan... was he the difference in Tadej's performance today?? Tadej stated post-race he mixed things up in his winter training, no doubt on advice and instruction from Dr. Ignio.
