Also the West has considered China as a "friend" while China did consider The West as an enemy! Think about that for a while. China has been stealing technology and showed no respect for others properties. Not like an equal partner!
They've been acted like criminals and no true differents between China and N Korea really. It's just another mask they're hiding behind. In my personal view China didn't deserve what they got. 2) as sea routes are most favorable for shipping , India has more advanced port and transportation unlike chine which doesn't have direct access to major sea.
    3) India is Rich resources country and companies can easily available raw materials.

India has 7540 km of coast, against China's 14,500 km coast. China's area is about three times that of India. China's coast is directly on to the Pacific Ocean(South China Sea, East China Sea & Yellow sea are its parts) & at the other side are North American countries in (Canada, USA, Mexico & Central America) as well as South America (Chile, Peru, Ecuador & Bolivia).
India is located on the Northern coast of Indian Ocean (Bay of Bengal & Arabian Sea). Half of (geographical) India is the peninsula while the other half is located north of Vindhyas, River Tapti & Tropic of Cancer, with no coast. China has the maximum sea trade for any country. Her major ports are Shanghai, Gwangzhou, Tientsien, Xiamen, Fuzhou, Dalien.
Population-wise, China has 1,411 million & India has 1,380 million as on population clock on 13 Aug 2021(followed by USA with about 332 million & Indonesia about 271 million). India's rate of growth of population is about thrice that of China and will equal Chinese population by next year end (my estimate) & after that for the next century India will be the country with the largest population. Yet India's population growth rate is far less than Middle East countries, (sub-Sahara)African & Latin American countries.
With almost 18.5% each, India & China have about 37% of market. With USA, Indonesia & Brazil added the market goes upto half (50%). [one can get these details from many sources. I got them from Wikipedia]

    Biggest problems with india are:
    1. Convoluted labour laws
    2. Scarcity of land due to large time consumption during land acquisition in india
    3. Lack of Energy infrastructure
    4. Corruption

India needs to work hard to make itself an attractive destination for foreign companies otherwise becoming an alternative to china in manufacturing will remain a pipedream. If India could succeed in IT then why not in manufacturing , it's time for the country to make all out efforts to attract international capital.

@Desmond Cheng What Companies were planning to do last year is a bit different since the CCP Flu. Most companies are now trying to get OUT of China, and finding it difficult since they cannot convert their investments from Chinese Yuen. As for you. Why are you so invested in China? Is it that you are a member of the 50c army perhaps? The CCP has killed more than 70 million of it's own citizens and is involved in Organ trafficking. It is the most evil and murderous totalitarian regime.

I found the 2020 data and it listed of the 56 firms that left China, ONLY 11 went to India. Does anyone have the numbers of manufacturers that MOVED from China to India from 2021 and 2022?
