I don't own any reptile, but I've become addicted to watching videos about them. Particularly leopard geckos and crested geckos. I'm an older guy so I don't think it would be fair to get one, when I most likely won't be around for its entire life. Plus I don't think my family would appreciate it. So I can at least see them in the videos. Thanks.
Hello Thomas, i massively respect your decision as you're putting the needs of the reptiles first. As a potential way, there are always older reptiles in rescues if this was a path you would consider. Either way, true legend 🙌
I would try just putting your hand in front of them and let them smell you before you try to scoop them up. If you have a tank I would suggest getting a terrarium front opening.
Stop grabbing at him. Just feed him, clean up and do your ordinary tasks in his presence if / whenever possible. Then slowly introduce your hand without grabbing after a reasonable period of time. Could be weeks could be months. Use your best judgment. I dont find that my leopard geckos lose their trust or comfort from lack of regular handling. But i can see a regression if they are stressed for any reason. Keep them comfy. Only positive interaction. End every interaction while things are still all peachy. Put them away while they still wanna be out with you.
I have an 8 year old. I feed him a pinky once a month, nothing wrong with it, its apart of it's natural diet in the wild, leos can also take down small scorpions, just like waxworms, you just can't feed it everyday.
