With my little experience, I think that most of us are going to go and re start the stages many times. Is completely worth it, I had so many improvements doing GAPS, in my case, intense allergies under control, with that, I was breathing better and not snoring anymore so I woke up with energy, way less overall inflammation (I usually look puffy) and no achy joints. But it takes a lot of effort to keep a GAPS lifestyle for most people, so we fell off the wagon and the bad stuff came back eventually. So we are starting again! and I can see it being the case for the rest of my life, personally I know GAPS is amazing for me and my husband. but I acknowledge is hard.
I had a similar GAPS experience. Did it for 13 years ago to combat years long depression. In less then a mounth I was free from depression. And I just stopped doing it after that. 13 years later depression have entered my life again and I once again gonna start doing GAPS diet. I'm planing on doing it for the rest of my life.

MARISA!! Your tip to blend all the cartilage with some of the broth and then add it back in to the whole pot-PRICELESS!! Thank you!! Grass fed beef knuckle bones are what I have an abundance of; so I did as you suggested, and my meat broth was SOLID when chilled oh yeah!! And delicious!! I gave a cup to my husband and he stopped , looked at me, and said “This is delicious! I’d drink this every day!” So glad I found you. Looking forward to this horrible histamine intolerance being GONE!!
@@3v3ry1 Hi, what a journey it’s been. After 5 weeks of GAPS intro, my gut was sealed but I still had histamine and chronic constipation. I also developed adrenal fatigue. I’ve learned adrenal fatigue and leaky gut go hand-in-hand. I discovered Karen Hurd’s bean protocol and went on it. It’s simple: 1/2 cup of ANY kind of bean 3x a day or 1/4 cup of beans 6x a day. This worked miracles for me. My bowels began detoxing; I pooped 3x a day for the first time in my life. After 3-4 weeks, ALL ITCHING WAS GONE. I can eat all fermented foods now, as much as I want, and I do. I went from not being able to tolerate even a teaspoon of kefir to drinking a cup and a half at a time with NO REACTION. I quit all caffeine 6 months ago and finally after 6 months I feel better than I have in 2 years. I’m about to start making Dr. Davis’ l. Reuteri yogurt to further help my damaged gut. I also do daily laugh and stress therapy, and fascia release to help my damaged connective tissue. I am doing so much better. What a nightmare it’s been! And how are you?
I’m so grateful for your videos. My son has been having a lot of health issues over the past year that have doctors at a loss. All they know is it “inflammation and some kind of chronic illness” but after dozens of specialists no one can figure it out. I have had stating GAPS on my heart, but it is so overwhelming and there seems to be very limited information available about it. Finding another mom who can do it in a realistic way is so helpful.

I was about to get started on intro when one of your older videos popped up about constipation & going full GAPS no dairy, more meat fats & acidic balance. I had a full hysterectomy & bowel reduction two years ago, my body has never been the same, food intolerance, bloating, weight gain, brain fog, the whole lot! Constipation is an ongoing issue, I miss the relationship I used to have with my body before endometriosis. Could you possibly do a video for women like me, either pre or post any type of surgery that disrupts the colon/endometriosis etc. I really want to make the right choices! Hey guys, sorry for the late update. I started gaps and was going strong for about three months. I started noticing just a slight difference in my itching just a little bit. And then in month 4, I started a new job that took up most of my time so I fell off and it came back even worse. I was eventually put on Dupixent because of how desperate I was. Kind of feel like I failed myself starting this new job but I’m not going to give up on myself or my skin.
So happy to have found this video. Just got to the part where you are talking about what's going in your pork stock. Holy moly, that sounds amazing! I feel inspired to go find more pork parts/bones. Turns out I eat really close to GAPS before I even knew what GAPS was. Super gelatinized stocks are one of my favorite things to make, however, I really like a mixed animal bone stock. Since fermentation and culturing are traditional methods of food preservation, they usually last for a very long time in the fridge, many moths or longer if they are uncontaminated. Ferments will last quite a while in a cool basement, and cultured dairy keeps culturing at room temperature so it's best to move it to the fridge. Rendered fat will last months on the counter if it has no water in it, and years in the fridge or freezer :)
Marissa, what dishwasher detergent do you use? Also, I live in Fort Collins and have trouble sourcing raw milk. Can you share where you find yours? Thanks! 18:41

Yes Marisa talks about blending skin, cartilage, all the grisly “bits” with broth to get a creamy blend to put back in soups. I’ve done it and it’s amazing! Tasty, filling and apparently super nutritious. Go for it if you’re up to it. Well worth the effort.

Hello! I have a question. Lately I have been eating my homeade ferments (dairy and veg) with every meal. I have made them here and there over several years and never ate them regularly. With these recent ferments that Im having lots of bloating and some digestive issues. Do you think this is because Im habing a lot all of a sudden? Like a transition phase, may I need to ease into it? (For background, I have been battling sibo off and on for years as well as on and off carnivore/ketovore . Really wanting WAP to be my diet but need to get strict with it. Started gaps intro but gave up during die off, started carnivore with intention of transitioning to gaps but never did. )
Can I start with full gaps and do the intro in January for example? I really want to start but we have birthdays and then Christmas and new years coming up.

I did end up with a lot of brine from a past batch of sauerkraut, and that's what we're using here. Another thing you can do is make probiotic cabbage tonic, where you use some cabbage and mostly water with salt, so you end up with lots of liquid to use :)
Do you store any extra rolls of the butter in the freezer? We just got those large rolls for the first time from Azure, rather than the square ones, and I was curious if it would be best to just refrigerate them until use or if we should freeze them since I do not know how long it will take us to use the larger amount.
I just got those rolls from azure too and it was unexpected for me. I don’t know what to do with them; how to store them, how to fit them in my butter dish, etc. I’d love to know what Marissa does too.
Hi Marissa, I am starting GAPS intro stage 1 now but I am a bit confused. I definitely have both SIBO and candida issues. This means I cannot tolerate garlic or onions or indeed any high FODMAP foods, including fermented foods. I get bloating and a histamine response that causes chest pain from extreme gas. But in the GAPS book I am supposed to add ALL of these in from the get-go. I read elsewhere that taking fermented foods, probiotics or high FODMAP foods merely feels SIBO bacteria unless you have addressed the SIBO first and foremost. I feel as though adding these things in is just going to feed the SIBO, and the beneficial bacteria will not even make it to the large intestine (where they're supposed to colonise). How can they reach the large intestine if they're getting utilised to feed the bacteria in the small intestine? Thanks so much for your help.
I'm not Marissa but I have an idea for you. Why not just try a modified full GAPS diet and a daily capsule probiotic? Leave out the garlic for now if it affects you badly, and don't have any bone broth or ferments yet. I think if you have bad gut dysbiosis like I do, you'll probably experience die off right away even doing such a 'gentle' version of GAPS. If you do, you'll know it's working and can start adapting from there as you're able.

I started adding in the meat stock soups 2x per day and my cystic acne has entirely cleared, so I think I am healing the gut. But the imbalances for SIBO and candida clearly aren't budging (yet!).
@@louisabreakell2383 Eeeeeek! I started having die off on day two or three of full GAPS. I'm working on building up the courage to get stricter... I'm guessing your carbs are already pretty low, so that's hard. My diet was quite carb heavy before I switched. Good luck!
Maybe go carnivore GAPS for a while? I developed histamine a couple of months ago so I’m doing intro now. I believe I have SIBO, h. pylori and leaky gut. 3 days in and I am experiencing die-off but Marissa says that’s a good thing; it means the healing has begun. I had to lower the sauerkraut juice as it was giving me histamine reaction (intense itching!) so I’ve cut back from 1 teaspoon per serving to 1/2 teaspoon. But my bloating is improving, and so is my indigestion (which is actually low stomach acid.) I am trying to be patient while God heals me using His food. I wish you success!
THERE'S a need for simple types of sugars, potatoes have a lot of nutrients, but I agree with not eating processed foods, im not on GAPS but I don't eat processed foods, I do make my own kraut and ferments...and celery can be juiced it matters too
There is no need for potatoes or any plant of any kind. They’re perfectly fine in moderation if you’re healthy but they all contain a slew of plant toxins: there’s no need for sugar. I’ve been carnivore for three years. Meat, water, and salt only and have healed cancer, MCAS, POTs, and diabetes
Healthy people can have starches with no problem, but Dr. Natasha says if there is gut dysbiosis, there are too many pathogenic strains and not enough friendly strains. Starches feed pathogens, which brings negative symptoms when there are a lot of pathogenic strains. GAPS gives the digestive system a break so that balance can be achieved, then starches can be introduced when there is a healthier balance.

@amberbrittany7546 idk about Marissa, but for me personally removing inflammatory ingredients just feels better. Less over all pain, stiffness in joints, stomach discomfort that ranged from mild misery to severe. If I reintroduce standard American food or snacks items I NOTICE!!! Thus, the benefits of removing ingredients far outweighs being able to eat like most others around me. I can only tolerate the best quality. I've adapted to that standard. My body doesn't like processed food or grains anymore, AT ALL.
This seems like alot of work. Why not just eat whole foods as close to natural form as possible, why do all this restrictive diet stuff. If u still have dogestive problems or issues after doing this for yrs clearly its not working i eat like crap and have no problems lol

Sometimes if the meat stock when cooked has too much of a boil it does not get as gelatinous. But your right nutrition still there. :)

If you save the bones and gently continue to low cook them for longer you can get that gelatinous consistency and add that to your jars

In the book it says to start with a teaspoon of ferments and increase gradually, don't know if it's your case .

Dr. Natasha doesn't recommend pressure cooking on GAPS, but if you have an Instant Pot you can use the slow cooker setting :)

This means I cannot tolerate garlic or onions or indeed any high FODMAP foods, including fermented foods. I get bloating and a histamine response that causes chest pain from extreme gas. But in the GAPS book I am supposed to add ALL of these in from the get-go.
I read elsewhere that taking fermented foods, probiotics or high FODMAP foods merely feels SIBO bacteria unless you have addressed the SIBO first and foremost. I feel as though adding these things in is just going to feed the SIBO, and the beneficial bacteria will not even make it to the large intestine (where they're supposed to colonise). How can they reach the large intestine if they're getting utilised to feed the bacteria in the small intestine?

I'm not Marissa but I have an idea for you. Why not just try a modified full GAPS diet and a daily capsule probiotic? Leave out the garlic for now if it affects you badly, and don't have any bone broth or ferments yet.
I think if you have bad gut dysbiosis like I do, you'll probably experience die off right away even doing such a 'gentle' version of GAPS. If you do, you'll know it's working and can start adapting from there as you're able.
Thanks@@sia9907, my problem is I react to almost everything these days! I don't think I could manage full GAPS as there are so many things I get bloating, gas and chest pain from. I started adding in the meat stock soups 2x per day and my cystic acne has entirely cleared, so I think I am healing the gut. But the imbalances for SIBO and candida clearly aren't budging (yet!).
@@louisabreakell2383 Eeeeeek! I started having die off on day two or three of full GAPS. I'm working on building up the courage to get stricter... I'm guessing your carbs are already pretty low, so that's hard. My diet was quite carb heavy before I switched.

Maybe go carnivore GAPS for a while? I developed histamine a couple of months ago so I’m doing intro now. I believe I have SIBO, h. pylori and leaky gut. 3 days in and I am experiencing die-off but Marissa says that’s a good thing; it means the healing has begun. I had to lower the sauerkraut juice as it was giving me histamine reaction (intense itching!) so I’ve cut back from 1 teaspoon per serving to 1/2 teaspoon. But my bloating is improving, and so is my indigestion (which is actually low stomach acid.) I am trying to be patient while God heals me using His food. I wish you success!

THERE'S a need for simple types of sugars, potatoes have a lot of nutrients, but I agree with not eating processed foods, im not on GAPS but I don't eat processed foods, I do make my own kraut and ferments...and celery can be juiced it matters too
There is no need for potatoes or any plant of any kind. They’re perfectly fine in moderation if you’re healthy but they all contain a slew of plant toxins: there’s no need for sugar. I’ve been carnivore for three years. Meat, water, and salt only and have healed cancer, MCAS, POTs, and diabetes
Healthy people can have starches with no problem, but Dr. Natasha says if there is gut dysbiosis, there are too many pathogenic strains and not enough friendly strains. Starches feed pathogens, which brings negative symptoms when there are a lot of pathogenic strains. GAPS gives the digestive system a break so that balance can be achieved, then starches can be introduced when there is a healthier balance.

@@bumblebeeapothecary Yes, but meanwhile friendly strains that feed off starches might die off. That is at least one of the explanations why some people apparently dont feel well on gaps longterm or have drawbacks. I dont know, but worth keeping in mind.

@amberbrittany7546 idk about Marissa, but for me personally removing inflammatory ingredients just feels better. Less over all pain, stiffness in joints, stomach discomfort that ranged from mild misery to severe. If I reintroduce standard American food or snacks items I NOTICE!!! Thus, the benefits of removing ingredients far outweighs being able to eat like most others around me. I can only tolerate the best quality. I've adapted to that standard. My body doesn't like processed food or grains anymore, AT ALL.
I eat like this as my regular diet- but less dairy- it’s much better for you overall. We are high protein and high fat. What stop what works?! ❤

This seems like alot of work. Why not just eat whole foods as close to natural form as possible, why do all this restrictive diet stuff. If u still have dogestive problems or issues after doing this for yrs clearly its not working i eat like crap and have no problems lol
