The modified 747 in the background that has been seen in many a Top Gear sequence or lap over the years was actually the basis for the fictional Skyfleet aircraft in Casino Royale. The double engines and wing pods layout is totally fictional being made up from parts of an old VC-10 as I recall.
The Vickers/BAC VC-10 has four engines at the back, it is quieter for the passengers. They were used as Tankers by the RAF after BA retired them as Airliners.

@@panman1964 , I had a flight on one many years ago in the air cadets. It is slightly strange looking down the cabin while taking off. I was fine, but I can understand some people getting airsick from it. Think the BAC1-11 had a couple of rear facing seats at the front of the cabin in normal airline use.

There were some issues with the 3 manufacturers not agreeing to have the times posted unless they fulfilled some stipulations but none of them could agree so it never happened. It did finally happen on the Grand Tour, they left Top Gear before it was able to happen

The roar and pushback in the seat. BOAC out of Calcutta 1972. I was wondering if the pilots thought they were back in the RAF. The VC10 and QANTAS's hotrod 707's - back before the fuel crisis the pilots must have delighted in pinning the passengers back in the seats on take off.

[mine was degenerative disk disease and pressure on my c4/c5 cartilage causing me to 'brown out' from spinal pressure... but we never would have found it and it would have been my demise...]

I would imagine that the tires are probably a bit on the older side as well since the car doesn't get the same use as it formerly did. With such a small contact patch you need all the help you can get.

Drive on the Top Gear track would be anyone's dream. Top Gear turned me into the man that loves cars and I can't stand when someone says they don't or that it's just for A to B. Now, we all know that Tom Cruise did amazing in that same car on the same track and he did 1.44, so you did amazing.

The RAF took them on after they were superseded in airline service and converted many to tanker refuelling tankers.
The grey military plane is a British made Vickers VC10. They are from the early 60s and flew up until the 90s as troop transport. Some operated as air to air refuelling tankers too.

Liana looks almost like Tata Indigo which came in 2002 in India. The headlights, the grill the front bumper with fog lamps. And the entire profile of car looks quite similar. We had one from 2005 to 2024, 1.4L Turbo Diesel with intercooler. Sold couple of months ago with 2.75 lakh km on odo. Only routine service. But its been mostly laying idle catching cobwebs for past 5-10yrs
The VC 10 used by the Royal Air Force, was when used by airlines the fastest passenger airliner at just subsonic speed. They were designed to refuel the supersonic military aircraft, allowing them to drop from supersonice to subsonic, refuel, back to supersonic without wasting time. Such a cool jet, weird facing backwards though. Only time I have been airsick. The rear facing seats were apparently so that 8f it crashed it was safer for the passengers…🤷♂️.

Looking at the lap times on the fandom site, 1.49.85 is faster than these stars that came in at exactly 1.50.0; Martin Clunes, Jeremy Clarkson, Lionel Richie, Cliff Richard, Patrick Stewart, Jamie Oliver, & Gordon Ramsay! The person ever so slightly faster than Freddy is Roger Daltrey that came in at 1.49.7! Way to go Freddy!
Man, i know i dont speak for myself when i say this show was the start of my love for cars. This made me think of all the laps Ive made on this track back in the day in the old forza motorsports. I would sit there and just see what lap times i could get in various cars narrating them to myself like I was jeremy. Its a shame the shows not still around i would have loved to see episodes on all these youtubers doing lap times for the show, and the interviews after. @2varish next time you're in Leicestershire come to Bruntingthorpe areodrome. It was the test track for the McLaren F1 road car back in the 90s. Loads of planes to. I used to work for a company that restore classic cars on an estate that backed on to Walton New Road.
I live a few miles from Dunsfold and driven the Top Gear track in the reasonably priced car. Got a video of it somewhere on a hard drive 😁 A great experience and glad to of done it before the site gets turned into a housing estate! 😢
