      Thanks Mark. Best I could think is that was the time we were at the beginning of the space race and every launch was televised with the countdown. Maybe I saw Supes as a rocket and added my own countdown 😂

    I believe my first World's Finest purchase was the Composite Superman issue #142, I then filled the gaps over the years back to 1960 and forward to 1984 when I sold them, along with all my collection. Looking back at the covers now, like with most DC comics at the time, I think the stories improved from 1969 onwards, more grown up so to speak, not to say the older tales weren't fun, but I suppose as you get older you want more intrigue than action, who knows? I like the fact you pictured the Jimmy Olsen and Robin digging the grave cover with a one shilling T& P price on. Joe are you now filling the gaps in your collection? I keep contemplating collecting them again maybe from '69 until it finished in '86. The Mark Waid run being published now is pretty good, a lot like the old days! Thanks for another trip down memory lane!

      My focus has been on JLA vol 1 and I am close. I may start filling in WF thereafter. Maybe the 1960s issues.

    😎👍 Definitely remember #159 Joe and from then on was a regular WF reader. My M❤M bought me my first WF comic and told me that on the Superman radio show Superman and Batman sometimes teamed up. Really enjoyed that era of adventures. Okay Joe maybe you remember as I do , sometime in the mid 60s , 66 or 67 there was a half hour TV documentary about comic strips and comic books that talked for a few minutes about WF , showing two enlarged splash pages one of which had the trio facing a Roman legion. What is also memorable about that documentary is that near the end of the program a skit about a grown up Little Orphan Annie was presented that featured Raquel Welch as the ( obvious take off on Little Annie Fanny for the more mature viewers) grown up Annie. This was before Raquel became a major star. I remember a couple of other scenes from that documentary but those two always come to mind whenever a conversation about WF is presented.

      Vaguely remember that documentary. Maybe we can find it online somewhere.

    I think compared to Marvel during this era Worlds Finest lacked excitement that Marvel possessed. Thank you for sharing Joe. Are you home yet?

    While early on in my collecting career I was mainly Marvel collector, in the last 15 years or so I have been picking up titles from other publishers, including some World's Finest. Just fun and at times goofy covers and stories. And relatively speaking, fairly affordable. Joe, I am sure you have mentioned this in a previous video, but what happened to the comics you could not keep? Thrown away or sold?

    • @AnachronicComics
      @AnachronicComics  4 місяці тому

      Thanks for the question. There is more to it than I can respond to here. The short answer is, I threw them out. However, I may put together a short video with a bit more info, at least as I remember it. Stay tuned.

    Great series Joe. I too was a regular WF reader and a big fan of the Superman/Batman team ups. I too kept and have my WF comics all in raw The earliest I have are a couple of the 1962 issues you showed, the bulk of my run are from 1966 to 1971 when at that time I stopped buying comics. Much like yourself I have in the last few years had a renewed interest in comics.

      Peter, thanks for the note. Seems our comic book collecting paths were somewhat similar.
