Been almost a year since I saw it and still can’t stop thinking about it. Easily the best film of 2022. A masterpiece that says so much through showing rather than telling. 10/10
Really appreciate your short heartfelt review. I love that you didn’t chicken out of 10/10. In my view, it is a perfect film but one I’m not sure I can watch again even to appreciate its mastery of what it is to be human. I go online looking for stuff about this film every few days to remind myself. I’m not going crazy because I break down every time I think about it.
This movie cut so so deep with me. I just cannot express how much this movie made “feel” it hit me so personally. Loosing a child recently and going through what I fear is close to the end of my fathers life. Having to take care of him. The complicated relationship I have with one of my daughters. Wow. I watched this last night and it just broke me. What a beautiful movie
I had no idea what to expect watching this film but within the first few minutes, I was hooked. Watching from the lens of a now adult whose childhood was full of pain and separation, it made me feel as though I was re-living that part of my life. While sad, a film that can shake someone that emotionally deserves a lot of praise and although it was melancholy, I could see how watching this with family could ultimately bring you even closer. Bravo.
Can’t wait to see this - Paul Mescal was heartbreakingly good in the series “Normal People” too - have you seen it? I love your reviews - wish you a wonderful time in Cannes! Hope you get the silver play button - you really deserve 100K subscribers and beyond.
When you mentioned shot composition I literally thought about the scene with the tv screen reflections. And they u mentioned it being burned in your mind. So true and stunning vision from Charlotte Wells
As a fellow Scot I am immensely proud of young Frankie, her performance is jaw droppingly sublime. I’d love to be that good at something the first time I tried it. Paul Mescals portrayal of Calum is heartbreaking, I think he will be adding to his BAFTA collection here. As for Charlotte Wells, she’s created absolute perfection here.
The kid in this was on another level for sure, and the director knew to stay out of her way. The acting throughout is stellar, but this young woman is makes the whole thing worthwhile imo.
what you say about how you're unsure during most of the film of where it's going and then the ending hits super hard but in a completely unexpected, i relate to that so much!! when i started crying (during the Under Pressure scene, iykyk), it felt like it came out of nowhere, one moment i was fine and the next i was welling up and then i couldn't stop crying anymore. i just... don't understand how Charlotte Wells did it, it felt like magic. also, yes, that final shot of Paul Mescal, i keep thinking about it and feeling so devastated by it!
I saw it twice already. Once at the New York Film Festival and once at a SAG screening yesterday. And I’m definitely going to watch it many more times in theaters and buy it on Blu-ray when the time comes. The Oscar Expert is right. It’s phenomenal. An instant favorite for me.
Hollywood is dead, be glad when the last nail is hammered in. When independent writers start getting the budgets they deserve then a new post Hollywood age will be established.
Absolutely agreeing with you @TheOscarExpert . I saw it too at La Semaine de la critique and it stunned me completely. It left me so many emotions that I thought about it after the film for three hours. Frankie Corio is amazing! What a debut, I actually questioned myself too if it's a masterpiece as I can't find any flaw in that. So delicate, so clean and touching. I loved it until the very last second. An absolutely unmissable film.
Saw this movie yesterday. I loved it all around, and still thinking about it!. Can’t wait to hear the video with more of your thoughts in the « spoilers » video 😊.
Just watched it…. WOW. What a personal and poignant film. it was completely free of any politics and was just a beautiful experience. I just really hope this director doesnt go into activist film making. I think she has a lot more talent than that… fingers crossed
Guess I'll have to watch this again, but for me it felt likeit was hinting at one ending and totally not delivering. I agree with all the technical reasons this film is 10/10 that I've heard in several reviews, but plot-wise: disappointed. Maybe I'm just another shallow American, lol.
I thought it was alright, but saccharine and superficially indulgent in aspects that you might not notice or care to notice unless you lived a life that is the exact opposite of these two main characters. Btw, I hate to say it, but the reason most people are comfortable in front of the camera is because they’re good looking, not exactly an earned trait worth praising. It’s why they usually get the roles too, that and nepotism.
This definitely is an excellent debut film....but then I saw Soft & Quiet and that would take the honor this year. Looking forward to your review on that film as well

It’s absolutely a 10/10 and a masterpiece, you were right.

can you please do the video with spoilers? would love to hear some of your thoughts on different symbols in the movie!
Paul Mescal was absolutely devastatingly remarkable in Normal People and I will watch anything he does. This sounds fantastic.

That's exactly when I teared up and I had no idea why.
I think this might be one of the best films I have ever seen…

I don't know what masterpiece is, but if there is meaning to the word, then this better be it.
I also saw this at Cannes and it was my favorite of the festival! I completely agree with you on every point.
I love your last questions at the end of every review.
This seemed like an amazing year for Paul Mescal. He's super talented and definitely Hollywood's next biggest superstar
Please god. Keep this guy off a plane to Hollywood. We don't need another great actor being reduced to a Marvel superhero
Hollywood is dead, be glad when the last nail is hammered in. When independent writers start getting the budgets they deserve then a new post Hollywood age will be established.
Would be interested in a more expanded video on your thoughts.
When will we be able to watch this in cinema or on streaming?
OK, OK! The thumbnail tells it all. I'll put it on my watchlist, sheesh...😂
And if Barry Jenkins is involved, he'll yeah I'm in!
I just got out of it at the Chicago Film Festival. Someone please unpack this ending with me.
C'mon c'mon was so underrated. I liked your comparison.
What is the imaginary club scene all about?
I’ve never balled so hard in my whole life

Can‘t wait to see this. The last movie with „i love this movie“ in the thumbnail was the worst person in the world and i loved that movie too
Both were my favorite movies of each year they came out. Worst Person for 2021 and Aftersun for 2022.
Saw this movie yesterday. I loved it all around, and still thinking about it!. Can’t wait to hear the video with more of your thoughts in the « spoilers » video 😊.
I go to the same school as Francesca
your Audio volume is super low.
None of you will believe me but the girl in this movie (Francesca Corio) goes to my High School
Wait how long till everyone says I’m cappin.
I’m cappin
Ok i'm looking forward for this
i love ur reviews
Definitely a masterpiece
oscar expectations?
The problem is that it's a very small movie, but if it gets on the radar I think it will get at least Picture, Screenplay and Mescal for Actor
Maybe this year MASS
@@JoeJoeJoe25 Mass didn't have A24
@@davidfohl385 A24 would be busy with EEAAO this award season
If you’re going to be talking a lot about this for the rest of the year, just a little tweak on pronunciation, Paul ‘Meskle’ is closer to phonetic!
Just watched it…. WOW. What a personal and poignant film. it was completely free of any politics and was just a beautiful experience. I just really hope this director doesnt go into activist film making. I think she has a lot more talent than that… fingers crossed
Cmon cmon vibes?

Well it's pretty good... But NOT A MASTERPIECE.. 😂
The movie was mid…
This movie was the slowest film ever....o god...come on
5/10
Most boring movie ever.

Your summary sounds like a checklist for resentment.
This definitely is an excellent debut film....but then I saw Soft & Quiet and that would take the honor this year. Looking forward to your review on that film as well
