I have a 91 361v. I just repowered it with a 90 150 xr4 still tweeking the engine. Just wondering what is your prop below pad , hole shot and speed on your set up and what rpm
My motor is mounted as low as it will go on the transom. It looks to be around 3.5" to 4" center of prop shaft to pad. I strapped a camera to my transducer to see were it was set and it was good. Cavitation plate was right with the water or a little above. Prop is a 23P Tempest 3-blade it's the thin and light A40. The holeshot is great. When I first bought the boat, lake was slick, nothing was in the boat, and only a few gallons of gas GPS showed 61-62 5500-5700.
This is an excellent overview. You do a good job detailing things. I'm currently working on my trailer lights. Pretty brand new to boating so I learn most things from videos like this. Thanks a lot
Nice Rig, very similar to my 363v with dual console. Quick tip, get some Meguiar's Ultimate compound at walmart and a foam buffing pad , and that haze on the gelcoat will disappear and it will shine like new. the meguiars is not gritty and rough like most compounds and works amazing on plastic headlights as well. Bass wishes, and tight lines
Thanks, it's about time to do a light compounding on the whole boat. I compounded it when I first bought it with 3m heavy oxidation compound (it was oxidized pretty bad), and then followed up with 3m scotch guard wax. I wax it annually with 3m wax, and then 3 times a year with Meguiar's cleaner and wax. 3m heavy oxidation compound has grit in it like you're talking about. Thanks for watching.
I have a 1998 374V but it differs from your chart. It has 2 consoles. My question is what are the little T handles with a rope attached for. Mine are corroded and I would like to replace them but I don't know what they are or what they are called. The information was great!! Thanks,
I have the same exact boat and color, but a '91. Bought it 2 years ago for $2500 w/ trailer. Couldn't pass it up, but it was needing a lot of TLC. My seat is the full length one, looks like a sofa, but may fab the seating fiberglass mold to mimic yours. I have the Johnson FastStrike 150 on it, didnt get a chance to start it after I rebuilt the carbs, right before we moved. Did you make the deck extension? Mine doesn't have one. I've done a complete gauge, switch, and wiring upgrade on it. I love that they put the wiring diagrams on the underside of the storage lids! Well thought out and I believe that in 89 or 90, they stopped using wood in the transom area ( I could be mistaken, it was something I read online). Def better build quality than the '98 Nitro I rebuilt and sold last year.
I never liked stepping on the seat, my dad's kingfisher is like that. His is like the 370 series it has storage underneath; lower seats flip up. Its a ranger made deck extension, there made just like the lids on the storage boxes. Good made stickers there still on my storage lid. My water pressure gauge was bad when I first bought it. Stayed stuck at 5 and wouldn't read right. Wiring was good other than a few connections in the rear and front bow. 87-88 is when they started, I think. Those were good motors, I know a guy that has one on a Bass Cat.
I always thought they was rough riding, and slow/ heavy. I had a 1990 skeeter 185 with that same blackmax 150 which I had to replace the lower unit and it blew a piston twice on me before I upgraded boats and got a SHO motor that I've not had any issues with. Clean looking boat you got though.
300 Series had a shallow hull, lot to do with the ride. They fish like an aluminum rig. The 400 series had a deeper, and better hull for rough water. The Yamaha SHO is a good motor.
@hp_outdoors I will say this the newer rangers....well up until 3 or 4yr ago were way better. My buddy had an 18 model 519 w 225sho that was out of the hole quick and a 72mph boat. My 20.2' skeeter 20x is a 75+ boat but has a 250 too.
The 500 Series was way better ride than the 3 or 4 hundred series. I have a 482VS w/175 Pro-V also, its a much better ride than the 300's hull. Ranger has always been on the slower side. I know a few people that have the 500 series, and some that have skeeters from various years. Both are great boats.
I owned a Ranger 361v. It was a nice Safe, boat but it was so heavy that it tore up 5 different motors. therefore i will never own another Ranger boat. I own an Allison craft now and i can pick the boat up with 1 hand and put it on the trailer hitch.
Hello, I am a college angler who just purchased a 1989 361v last August. I fished a couple fall college tournaments out of the boat and ran into a small issue. I seen you covered your live well vents with some sort of caps. Every time I would fill the live well with fish it seemed like the live wells would always drain no matter what. Was wondering how you would combat this? Thanks!
If your livewell has threads sticking out you can screw a PVC pipe cap on them. Any hardware store has them, plumbing section. Just hand tighten. 3/4" female for the livewell lower drains. Your probably losing some water threw the overflow when you take off, or in rough water. You can get a 1" female threaded cap for the overflow and cap it. You can't use the timer, or recycle the water with the overflow capped. Livewell will run over. I use these if I'm trailering with fish. You can take the same 1" cap, and drill a 1/2" hole in the side of it, out toward the end, and screw it on the overflow with the hole straight up. This will give you 1" more water, and slow down water lose taking off. Overflow will still work. The livewell control valves could either need cleaning internally, or rubber flapper replaced. There down in the bilge area in the back of the boat, they work off a cable. I never trusted mine. Mine would hold water one day, and leak the next day. Some debris gets inside it won't seal. Any other questions feel free to ask?
It depends. There are some that need restoring, already restored, or just well taken care of. Check transom, motor, and just look the boat over good. Compression check the motor. Make sure the hull has no damage. Around mid 88 ranger went to all fiberglass transoms. No rot. A heavily oxidized boat can be restored, with rubbing compound as long as the gel coat is still there.
What is the difference between the 360s and 370s? I am looking for a 361, 390, 391, or 392. But I do not really know the difference in the 360s and 370s. Plus why does the 373 have a limit of 150? Especially since the more narrow and a foot shorter 330v had a limit of 140. I found a 364v without a motor or anything. Just a hull and trailer for around 1000. Very solid boat. Wiring is just as good as a new boat. I have an extra trolling motor and carpet. I can't decide whether I should buy it or look for a 361 or longer. I really like the front decks of the 361 with the dual lockers and raised flipping deck. The 364v has been sitting in the sun for around 6-7 years and has no gel coat at all. I would probably just wrap it.
Major difference between the 2 is the fuel tank location. 370 is in the rear and 360 is under the driver's seat platform. 370 had storage under driver and pass seats. 360 has a two-step hull at the rear. 370's had frt and back livewells except for the 374v it had 2 rear. 360's had 2 rear livewells. 370 had full length grab bars on the side, 360 had split bars because the fuel caps. This is my understanding on the 373V. It was the official boat of the Bassmaster classic, at the time 150 Hp was max legal hp in B.A.S.S. Boats the same as the others, more of a special edition type of thing. That was specs from 1988, they may have changed to the 175 max hp later on. The raised deck was a nice layout ranger started using.
I have 1990 version of that boat. It has the same pattern. Mine is gray where you have maroon. I have a 91 xr4. I would love to my hands on a regular tempest. Where are you running the prop below pad and what speed are you getting?
Those old QS tempest A40's were thin and light they spin up really good on take-off. The hole shot is great. I don't know the lower unit gear ratio. When I first bought the boat, lake was slick, nothing was in the boat, and only a few gallons of gas GPS showed 61-62
@HP Outdoors I'm talking about the skins. I like that style and dont really want to change them. Mine isn't torn but look bad and feel rough and I have one completely missing. I just subscribed to your channel look forward to it
Awesome, I like those seats also. The Tempress website shows they still make the shells and have replacement (Basic boat seat colors) seat skins. The replacement skins (they call them seat cushions) might fit the older Tempress shells. Probably need to message them to see if those will fit they may be designed different or changed the way they attach. Tempress made the shell and ranger made the custom skins for their boats. If you want the exact color and stitching design or trying to match the bench seat, you'll have to contact ranger and see if there still making restoration parts for their older boats. They used to do that, don't know if they still do. An upholstery shop could make the skins also.
I seen some project pictures of people doing this right after I bought the boat, never gotten around to doing it. My boat has fiberglass that has to be hole sawed, or cut at the end of the box, with foam behind it. If I done this I was going to put short rod tubes, and foam them in at the end of the box, if they would fit. Help protect the end of the rod. I have a long bed with a camper shell, it was just easier putting them in the truck. They do have good re-sale.
$4100 supposed to have been 4200. Funny story the owners dog buried the front sonar unit while we were inside doing paperwork. Unit was sitting on the ranger cover and garage door was up.

the 361 has always been my favorite boat......ever.
Very nice, these ole’Rangers are solid rides ,& the sound of those Mercs is awesome !!
They were good rigs, the sound of the motor is what I like the most.
Nice rig. Those old Rangers were built like a tank.
Thanks, They were great boats.
I have a 363 and i love it
That was a great informative video, well done
Thanks

I have a 391v. Best boat’s ever made was the 300 series
Nice Rig
Disabled fisherman looking for a reconditioned boat. Prefer a ranger as I grew up with my dad owning a 168v 1980. Were can I find one?
Look on online classifieds, or social media. Thats how I came across this one. If you find one you may have to drive a long distance to get it.

17.10 is lenght of the 363
Yes u right why tha he’ll I couldn’t fit in my 22.5 garage
I want to know where to find the sat cover im having nomluck finding that style

$4100 supposed to have been 4200. Funny story the owners dog buried the front sonar unit while we were inside doing paperwork. Unit was sitting on the ranger cover and garage door was up.
Where did u get the deck extension from ?
It came with the boat. Its the original ranger extension.
