I had my YAG procedure yesterday. My vision clarity didn't improve much after cataract surgery. After having the first eye done, I'd compare how things looked through one eye then the other. When having only the done eye open, things only looked slightly less yellow than when only the other eye was opened. Not enough of a difference to have had noticed an improvement has I had not been able to alternate which eye was opened. After the cataracts were removed from both eyes, there really was not much if any, noticeable changes in the appearance of colors, clarity, contrast or sharpness. I was still sensitive to bright light and nighttime oncoming headlights. I even continued to frequently needed to use a flash light to see any details that didn't have light shining directly onto it. About 2 years after, I was constantly trying to clean a smudge on one side of my glasses. I couldn't see the smudge unless my glasses were on, so I thought it had to be on my glasses. Eventually, I realized if I moved my glasses, the then realized non-existent smudge, moved on the glasses with the movement. Not long after figuring out my glasses weren't the problem, that eye got much worse, getting to the point of everything seen through that eye looked very cloudy. The looking through smoked glass description describes it perfectly. My other eye took over for the cloudy one, so I hadn't realized it progressed to that point until I closed my remaining good eye. Fortunately, my better eye which was starting to get spotty, held off getting cloudy until the YAG procedure was completed. OMG! Wow just wow! What a great result YAG provided for me. The result was what I had hoped for following the cataract removal surgery. I had both eyes done the same day yet still, Immediately after the procedure, I was stunned! The vividness of colors, they popped. Everything looked sharp with excellent contrast as well. Again, I noticed how fantastic the results were immediately. When I used my phone after walking away from the Lazer, to let the person driving me home know that I was done and ready, I though my screen looked awesome compared to proir to the YAG procedure! The Dr did mention that in addition to the posterior capsule cataract/opacification, my posterior capsule was exceptionally thick. Irregardless, I do think my eyesight improved also and I suspect my vision will need less correction when it gets checked. Now the bad part and it's really horrible and scary! When I got home, I saw how dirty my house was. And the grey in my beard stood out more. Teehee!
Your assessment sounds like mine - not all I was hoping for after the cataract surgery. I'm supposed to have the YAG Laser surgery next month, and I'm really hoping I have the same result THIS time!! Thanks for your story! It's helping me be optimistic about the upcoming procedure.
Can this Yag procedure be done instead of cataract surgery? My Mom is 92 in a wheelchair she had a stroke yrs ago. Drs set a date in a month for cataract surgery! I’m not sure she should proceed! YAG a replacement? Takes Medicare and Medicaid? Thank You!
Dr. Tokuhara, you mention that the "likes" will increase the visibility of your videos. I believe engagement from your end will also bump your videos up, as they should be. You provide great explanations and make these procedures easy to understand. I'm a victim of a botched cataract surgery, ruptured the capsule, then instead of the multifocal I was counting on, he put in a near lens with the incorrect power. I am able to focus about 12" from my face while years earlier he had done Lasik and made that my distance eye. Big screw up. Looking for a doctor with your expertise in the Southeast. Any recommendations?
My "PCO" was identified in my 1 week follow up appointment. Dr said it appeared that all cells were not removed during (suction) removal of the cataract. ; (. Apparently it is not that uncommon.. Good news was that it could be corrected with this laser treatment (suggested waiting time 30 - 60 days) and it is covered by Medicare. Thank heavens. I'm trying to schedule my YAG procedure asap at about the 50 day mark! Supposedly will give me " 1 more line" on the reading chart. I have glaucoma so ANY available vision for that eye is being pursued. Thanks Dr. Tokuhara.
THAT is my question too! I read that as a risk factor in YAG treatment and I’m terrified of another detachment. Mine was in 1980 in the early days of laser retinal repair.
Not a doctor, but from other videos I've seen, the beam is focused to converge slightly behind the capsule to precisely direct the energy where needed. The laser doing the work is invisible, but there is a separate low power laser for aiming. The preceding might be complete nonsense.
DR--what about a light hazy film {much like the Canadian fire smoke on the east coast} developing 3-4 weeks after cataract? lens removal with the vison restored to 20/20? any thoughts?
Yes. Intraocular lens exchange and replacement surgery is still technically possible, even after yag laser. However, once the capsule has been opened after a yag laser capsulotomy, the risks of intraocular lens replacement surgery are far greater and often outweigh the potential benefit. Consulting with a surgeon trained in complex cataract surgery with good experience in techniques such as the Yamane Intrascleral Haptic Fixation, may be worthwhile.
i had cataract surgery before 1 week and i see double image , or a reflection in all lights in night. ( i have monofocal lens for distance sight). Is any way to fix it or have clear vision?
My question is .....if they leave big chunks of the posterior capsule in the vitreous fluid will I have huge floaters? In other words is there a such thing as a high quality capsulotomy where the doctor takes their time and lasers away the capsule precisely and a low quality capsulotomy where they leave big chunks of the capsule as floaters? Can the capsulotomy be botched?
@@brendatomlinson In my case it came out spectacular. No problems whatsoever. But they never really answered my questions....and I suspect they don't want to say anything in writing in case of a law suit. The capsulotomy really is miraculous. I was virtually blind in one eye but now back to my prescription. It was a profound experience. One minute at the mercy of nature and the next you can see again. I want to give to a charity so that someone who maybe can't afford it can get the procedure. The doctor's office didn't respond to that question either. Oh well. I'm sure you will have a good outcome also.
Hi, Doc. This was detected just after 8 day's of my cataract surgery. Dr said come after 2 weeks he'll we've to do a minor laser treatment and you'll be able to see more clearly. Today after 22 days of my cataract surgery they performed yag treatment it just took 2 minutes. Is it common to common to get this within 1 month of cataract surgery.
BE CAREFUL! I had this done on my right eye cuz I was having ghost images in my vision in low longing situations. After I had YAG laser done, I immediately had huge starbursts around lights at night. I REGRET having this done every day !!
@@jamiedrury2050 im 26 year old. I did lens extraction surgery for high myopia. After surgery i noticed ghosting in left eye..Because my surgeon did iridotomy hole. That hole caused ghosting. I have significant burst around both eye vision already from cataract surgery. The lens in both are now getting blurry so this is recommended. Even though I have the halo's and bursts my vision is soooooo much better. I figure it will still be better with yag than worse. I don't need glasses anymore except reading. Not doing until Nov 6. Just wondering if overall vision has improved?
@@Fereen98 thank u. I had it done. I'm thankful to be able to see again. Only thing I notice is that large floaters come into my field of vision from time to time and obscure my vision very briefly. The floaters are like pieces of the issue that was fixed in the first place...the scar tissue. But im grateful to be able to see clearly again.
The background music is destroying this video. Other than that it's a good one. The background music is annoying. It makes it hard to hear you; I really have to focus hard to hear what you are saying.

I am going to need this laser surgery. I have developed double vision and it is very difficult to read anything.
Hi Doc, in PCO Is it complete cloudy vision or cloudy spot ? I have big cloudy spot 2 years after cataract surgery.
Are Eye Floaters similar in bio matter to the material in Capsule Opacification ?
Can it come back again??
So, how does the laser get to the back of the capsule? Does it pass through the lens implant, please explain.
