I remember when Unravel was the anime anthem! The manga was insane, I wish the anime after season 1 was able to live up to the source material because it's popularity was AoT-esque back when season 1 was airing.

Honestly, you need to watch the opening sequences as well to get the flavour of the anime. So far you’ve been recommended some top notch anime. I feel like you’d love Death Note and Jujutsu Kaisen. I’d stake £500 on it.
What I loved the most in those openings is that they reflect Kaneki's changes of personality through out the serie(Kaneki is the mc). As a tg manga reader, when those opening came out, I was in heaven.
edit: I thik you should react to the tv sized openings. Trust me, the visuals are absolute bangers!

Is manga bad as 3rd and 4rd season or not?

The problem with third and fourth season is that it tried to compress 180 chapters in 24 episodes, which is impossible.The second reason is that the ending of season two is extremely different from the manga's ending(I won't try to develop or else I might spoil you major events of TG:re). Hide didn't even die His death death was just a way to conclude root A.

That was his motive from the beginning. Was to sing the song as if he was the character and expressing the calm mind and chaotic mind of Kaneki

Defenetly, really an underrated anime and songs.
A favorite for me, too! I’d definitely check Noragami out too! Its first few episodes speak to societal issues and I love the voice actors so much, as well as the music, which reminds me so much of Soul Eater’s!

Asphyxia is my favourite anime song purely because of how unique the bass and drum arrangements for it is.

LITERALLY THE WHOLE ANIME
AND IT IS *AMAZING*
Unravel is more than just an awesome song, more than just an awesome opening. It is used as an insert song in the show to MASSIVE effect. The emotional weight attached to that song is HUGE for fans of the show. Later seasons have problems from a lot of different sources, but the original is a legend.
I feel it's due to the anime in the later seasons changing events in the manga to try and do their own thing but trying to arrange it to meet back with the manga so that we get like, an alternate timeline with the same result. The issue is that it did a shitty job of doing something it never needed to do in the first place.
@@asahi7407 They really didn't even try for that. The end of Season 1, from what I understand, was a slight deviation from the manga, then Root A went off the rails. Like off the rails, down the mountainside and into the river levels of off the rails. Then RE just jumped back to the manga canon timeline without even stopping to address the fact that they didn't even come close to connecting. We went from Kaneki is part of Aogiri to Kaneki has amnesia, is working as a ghoul investigator, and the rest of our core cast is an extra faction fighting both the CCG and Aogiri, and we were stuck waiting for YEARS before they even gave us that.

Fight me, but i think the produced version is so much better than the First Take version imo. Just the way the Instruments slap hits different.
Asphyxia has a first take too, a more calmer version just like the unravel one. I feel like people don't watch it as much as Unravel's first take but it's amazing.
I would say unravel at the end that really slow one is the best version of it.

TK from ling tosite is literally the soul of tokyo ghoul. When you listen to the music and read the lyrics you literally feel like that the story of MC (kaneki ken) is reflected in the songs.
So there are 5 songs that form the core of tokyo ghoul. Unravel by TK, katharsis by TK, Own my own by katherine liner (written by Yutaka Yamada) , Glassy sky by Donna Burke (written by Yutaka) and White silence by TK.

The first opening is probably the most iconic anime opening from past 2010's animes.
i cant believe no one is recommending Psycho pass openings the first three songs are all incredible and the first and third were done by the same guy who did Tokyo ghoul op 1 and 4 so I'm sure you will love them

Loving your reactions as of recently! A suggestion I have is you should also check out the visuals to the anime op's you react to! Tokyo Ghoul and so many other animes have incredibly beautiful animation and visuals, so it's definitely worth seeing!
Yup, consider to check out the channel called "Anicrad". They've got plenty of openings with 4K & 60FPS quality, which is very good for your eyes. There aren't Tokyo Ghoul openings yet, though.
TG songs (all seasons all OPs all EDs all OSTs) are curated by the author of the series. The lyrics and the vibe of the songs fit perfectly for what the season is suppose to cover. Even if you don't watch the anime but definitely read the manga, you'll love the songs because they are all perfect for the characters and/or arcs.
PS. Endings deserve all the attention too.
Please also hear the songs Glassy Sky and Wanderers, they are OSTs from TG and they are soooo good!!! Oh yeah and Bleach openings :D
And if you watch the show, pls keep in mind that the story is altered and partly "censored" compared to the manga
And then you haven't even heard the ending songs. Kisetsu wa Tsugitsugi Shindeiku by Amazarashi and Seijatachi by People In The Boxa are so amazing!
I love how the songs are making you feel so confused at times as that is exactly what the anime is about. About being conflicted and confused about life and stuff. About standing in between 2 worlds and trying to figure out where to belong.
I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but Asphyxia has a piano version which is incredible!
This is a reaction I didn’t know that I need it thanks for that! / I literally have goosebumps on my whole body when you played unravel. Man this reminds me on so many forgotten feelings that I had watching this anime for the first time. Just crazy. I love it so much till today.

Talking about how these songs are used in the show - there's an absolutely heart breaking scene right at the end of season 2 where they play this fantastic acoustic version (just piano and vocals) of unravel and everything else in silence. really beautiful scene

I'm sad that if we ever get to have a re-make of the anime, it's not going to have this song as its opening 😭😭😭😭 I can't think of TG without thinking of unravel, it really perfectly captures the essence of the anime as well of the manga

Thank you for your reaction. Tokyo Ghoul, all the music is wonderful. Most anime songs are commissioned by a singer or band or composer to use in the anime. Therefore, not only the song but also the lyrics reflect the content of the animation, which is an important element. And the OP and ED images are made according to the tone of the song, and if possible, I want you to enjoy the sounds and images of the animation together.
First opening and last opening came from the same artist, TK from Ling Tosite Sigure. This artist music is featured in a lot of dark or cyberpunk genre animes. You seem to enjoy the dark, psychological types. I would recommend giving the anime, Psycho-Pass, a try. The openings of Psycho-Pass give an NICE mix of rock and indie. The plot and show is a no wonder it's under the psychological genre.
A little info of Tokyo Ghoul (without spoiling): It's an anime that falls into the dark and thriller genre. The story takes place whereas there's two civilization: Human & Ghoul. What separates ghouls from humans, ghouls are (basically) cannibals that feast on humans (and other ghouls?).

one of my favourite songs from the Tokyo Ghoul OST is a song called ‘Glassy Sky’ so much raw emotion behind it and made me care about the second season no matter how bad it may have been 😭. A show which you should definitely check out would be Psycho Pass. It has great openings and genre wise it should be right up your alley.
It's basically the anime version of Minority Report done to the extreme.

when you finish watching a really good anime, and hear the opening after, it just hits different, got a 1k+ japanese songs playlist of openings and other stuff by openings artists, and just a bunch of other cool stuff I found. its really good music, especially when you get sick of the same old stuff all the time

The best thing about anime openings is how great they resonate with the anime itself. Here especially opening 1 and 4 show PERFECTLY how the anime feels. As a spoilerfree context: the anime is basically about a boy who gets turned into a (half)ghoul and has to survive with the mental burden of only being able to eat human flesh from then on. He fits in neither of both worlds and suffers under a mental duality and the cruelty of that society and his own existence. The songs did show those feelings wonderfully

He and his band has done songs for other anime and they're also great! But Unravel BLEW UP from how it sounded. TK and his band Ling Tosite Sigure are AMAZING! Please check out more of their songs!
just found this in my recommended and definitely subscribing. the actual lyrics behind tokyo ghoul are amazing. when you watch the opening it starts off gray showing the main character ken kaneki's life before becoming a ghoul was plain and dark. and then the screen goes to color and he see's the world for what it truly is. through the anime he tries to find balance and peace between the two. its one of the best anime's in my personal opinion.
Those moments when unravel played in the BG during the last episodes of season 2 and 3🔥🔥 literal chills!!
This song has a version of it on “the first take” as well. Highly recommended.

Unravel is a song that you can really feel as you listen to it, even if you cant understand or relate to the lyrics. It stands on its own outside the context of the anime, and its a personal favorite. There aren't that many openings i dont eventually fast forward thru, but never unravel. It couldn't be a better fit for the anime. Its a shame you didnt have the lyrics running.
Imho Jrock in general, is brilliant. There are great albums out there from both his band, LTS & TK as a solo artist. You won't have a hard time finding some killer live performances

the manga is better than the anime adaptation when it comes to tokyo ghoul, sadly they didnt do this beautiful piece of art justice there,,, the first season is still worth a watch tho!

Openings are usually set to their own animations near the beginning of an episode, but sometimes get played during other times (the first opening is played during the last episode of series/season 1)
i recommend the endings for this anime too.
the band for the secon op is probably my favorite japanese band currently, the composer and main guitarist who leads the projects doesnt make music too often but it always hits right. always with cryptic lyrics too.

You have to check more songs from TK , he has a lot of great songs that aren't from anime, he also plays guitar like a god and sings at the same time .
I’m a big fan of AOT. So I'd be happy if I can enjoy it with you. As for anime songs I definitely recommend Jujutsu Kaisen. Its ending LOST IN PARADISE feat.AKLO by ALI. The openings are also great.
I love Unravel so much, it always gives me goosebumps, and I'm actually really happy that you reacted to the full version because even though the short version used for the opening is nice, I think it lacks many of the amazing parts of the full one like the crazy guitar solo and the scream (my personal favorite parts lol)

After this you just HAVE TO listen yo the FIRST TAKE version of UNRAVEL by TK. It's absolutely stunning!!! I think you would love "psychopass" both the series and the music. It's one of the best anime out there.

Tokyo Ghoul was my first anime love, it’s got quite a few issues in its adaptation due to some restrains (they were only allowed 12 episodes per season and had to cut short some parts), but if you take it as it is, it’s an absolutely awesome, introspective and emotional journey that I hope more people would get to experience the same way I was able to. Looking forward to seeing you begin your own journey, in whichever way you see fit! :)

Gotta say, I'm loving the music reactor to anime reactor pipeline that's been happening on youtube the past year or so. I'm loving these videos so much, JPop and JRock deserve all the hype they've been getting in the west, some of these artists are INSANE.
I would say Tk and Ling Toshite Sigure have amazing songs regardless of anime openings;but, if you want more like these then you should check out psycho pass openings which also has two songs.

whenever i listen to Unravel it brings tears to my eyes...i don't know man...the song sounds so painful and being torn and it just reflected Kaneki's pain so well i just keep thinking bout it that i can't help but start bawling.
You randomly popped up in my recommended for your AoT opening reaction. I loved it! I then watched your 100 best anime OP video and your Demon Slayer one just a bit ago, and I'd love to see ya react to AoT and Demon Slayer anime. Jujutsu Kaisen is also an amazing one I think you'd like. Tokyo Ghoul adaptation is not so good so I recommend the manga, but season 1 is okay. The opening, Unravel, is still amazing to this day :D Edit: Also! There is a First Take for Unravel like there was for LiSA's Gurenge and Homura (from the Demon Slayer movie; soooo good!). Also DS season 3 opening by Aimer is also on First Take :D
I wish I could go back and hear unravel for the first time all over again. Hell I wish I could watch Tokyo ghoul for the first time again. Its my favorite anime, though I wish the second season followed the manga

Definitely recommend Tokyo Ghoul for watching. Season 1 is literally one of the best of all time. It's Got heavy violence, gore and is tragic. The story is beautiful

Dude!!! The first episode of Season 1 when the main character figures out what's happening to him...then they slowly play "Unravel" in the backround....chills...this anime got me into anime man!
i believe asphyxia has a music video where u can also see the lead vocalist playing the piano, it'd be worth checking out in your free time given u enjoyed the song a lot

@2:40 the best part is the show is all over the place for awhile its very heart felt angelic then a sharp turn to tragedy from how dark the world is and how he has to protect his family! The lyrics I love the most because of the fact it truly depicted how Ken Kaneki goes through the insanity of his kind and world. Truly a beautiful song and story to me 10 out of 10
You know, while i was massively fangirling over TK from Ling Tosite Sigure's official UA-cam channel, someone in the comments said that TK held a concert in UK a while ago. I WISH I WAS THERE! And i bet you wish you were there too! Amazing singer, amazing band.
i got goosebumps from the first opening and Katharsis and also cried because i remember waiting for the next season of tokyo ghoul and I was a really big fan of it.
Katharsis is honestly my favorite, might be because i got sick of listening to Unravel so many times lol.
