That middle hump probably didn't help. Or perhaps they shouldn't have use aluminum for the frame. Though I'd bet they did to make it less heavy, a bit cheaper to manufacture and it's cooling properties probably is why they didn't use plastic. I wonder if aluminum could be reinforced with fibers much like how some concrete structures are made.
