Having left suburbia, HOA's, crazy Codes, etc. etc. nearly four years ago, we strongly support your decision. The final straw was a committee of "individuals" who decided my American & Military flags & flag poles failed "architectural review". Screw 'em!!!
No matter the frequency of your videos I enjoy them all. Your journey is what brings me back. I watch 3 or 4 other Idaho homesteaders and enjoy all. You are what America is all about. A dream and how to get there. God Bless
Thanks for this info. I didn’t expect to hear these problems in Idaho. I plan on moving to an area in the future with no restrictions hopefully. I will be aware of these problems. Thank you. Keep the videos coming I love seeing the progress.
thanks Josh for showing me this video explaining why you guys left the old homestead i think you made the right move. i subscribed about the time you were getting ready so to speak. good luck to you and your wonder family.
Excited for you all and can't wait to follow on your new adventure. Would love to see more how you involve your children in helping out. Love your family..
Is this your new property that you're standing on while doing this video? Absolutely beautiful!! Just as beautiful as you Kim. I've watched you from the beginning, first seen you all on Dirtpatchheaven and fell in love with Josh's sense of humor, which then I became a subscriber. I'm a lifer!! I seen your blood, sweat and tears in working the previous property so I totally understand your heartbreak Kim. I know it's got to be hard. Just know that you have a few thousand people pulling for you, we're all behind you. God bless your new homestead.
Love this. Your friendly and transparent hearts is a big positive. You guys belong on UA-cam - please keep these going. Well done. All the best with your new adventure. I've lived my life with the same attitude and wouldn't have lived it any other way.
I have been watching you guy's since you started, man I live on a third acre in GA ,your hard work and family-friendly activities are awesome thanks for sharing. I do plant my front and back yard in vegetable every spring.Thank you
Gregory B thank you for supporting us, it means a lot! Vegetables grown in my own garden is the thing I’m (Kim;) looking forward to most. Josh=building Kids=animals 😊
We left Washington D.C when my husband retired from the military. We started a homestead on the side of a Montana mountain. It was a good decision for our family, and we home school our daughters. Now, our neighbors are cougars bears and wolves. We love our new adventure. Best of luck to you.
Great video guys. Excited to continue watching your journey unfold. It’s difficult to relocate and especially moving farther from family but I’m sure you will be happy in your new digs. The wisdom you gained while developing your last piece of land has obviously given you so much experience, knowledge and a great jumping off point going forward to be able to accomplish your goals and pursue your dreams. It’s nice to be able to follow along with people in similar circumstances with like minded goals. Happy life building and keep up the good work! -Dede
I love hearing about your family< seeing the kids grow, the homestead projects.. & even the builds that you do. You do what you need to do for your family situation~! Much Love & Happiness with your Journey xoxoxo
Be sure yer all on the same page, that will help alot. God bless you. Ignore our wishes, it’s your life, not ours. I married a builders daughter, she hated the whole process..growing up that way... but I luved the heck out of it, it did drive her crazy.
I homeschooled (started in public) my 3 kids in the 90's. They were able to do all extra school activities but social was never an issue as we had 4-H, AWANA & other church events. At 20 years old they had their 4 year degree. Never get survival living property with any restrictions. They are there so all can conform. Good luck on your adventures!
That's right...all homeschool families have access to any and all school activities such as sports and facilities. Your taxes are paying for it weather your children attend or not....
A list with each item weighted by desirability/priority is a great way of making a decision with many variables. We did this when we bought our home. Makes it easy to score the alternatives
I hope that you get it together. We have been through things like you and got through it. Find out where you truely want to be and work your butt off to get there, that is the only thing that kept me going. Good luck and KEEP THE FAITH.
Good Luck in what ever you do, Be Happy that is the main thing. it would be great to see you put together your new home and what you aim to achieve. Best Wishes what ever you decide.
Your attitude to comments and your followers is to be commended - bring us along for the ride but also include, consult and learn as we do following your journey. Thank you, great video! Others could learn a lot form your knowledge and how you present(PLFL, are you watching and listening!!)
I had to move 1000 miles away from home for work I was not easy and out of 6 workers only 3 could handle it It was a good move I am glad I did it some that didn't regreted not going
Where ever you are at and move to you know there are people there too. Move and build and soon the road is there and you are rolling once more. Make the move work hard make friends be a part of the fabric of the community.
Josh, Happy to hear that you are moving. A new experience awaits you. To say that your previous property was stony, rocky would be an understatement. God bless on you on your journey
Sorry you are having to change your plans and move but sometimes it's for the best! Good luck and our prayers for your new location and look forward to watching more of your videos. We're in Montana :)
All the best to you and your family, you have to do whatever is needed there before anything on here, pretty sure all of your subscribers get that. Really enjoy all that you have shared so far... look forward to whatever comes our way !
I wanna see the new place! Figure my questions will likely be answered on Sunday. But PLEASE share the new place view with us! I can imagine it's gorgeous, we lived in Kalispell, Mt for 7 years, spent tons of time in the Yaak Valley and pan handle of Idaho, ugh, our hearts are still there. Tearfully so, we miss it so much. Congratulations you guys, I'm do excited and happy for you! Do you, we love you guys!
You are wise to move and start over, especially since you are young. Juggling your job and home building will all work out because you and your wife and very keen on what's best for your family. Good stuff and I am happy for your kids to get a great opportunity too.
Hi guys. New sub here. I heard about you from Daniel Arms. I'm just skimming the highlights and will get caught up over the holidays. Cheers, ~Mike and Ester~
I've gotta say, this area is a lot more visually interesting from what I can see on my end. Good luck guys and I'm looking forward to see more of the area, your property and what you're doing in general.
We’ll be starting our new North Idaho homesteads about the same time. I’m moving back to the Sandpoint area this spring. Definitely a lot less regulations than most places. I’ve got skills but no money so planning to build a small 12x12 off grid log cabin with trees from my property. Last I checked it was a $500 building permit and that’s about it.
Wow, what a sad reality for our country, you are the third family I follow that is having to relocate due to "restrictions ", I'm happy that you have found something else, I'm sorry that you are having to walk away from the work you put forth. God will bring peace and guide you
Hi, guys. I did not know about CC&R's. Thanks for the heads up on that particular stink bug. Enjoy your candor and hope that I can make it up to that area sooner than later.
Hi guys. Sorry to hear that you are having to relocate after all the time, money, and aspirations you invested into your homestead. Best wishes in your new endeavor. Keep God first, love one another and your children, and it shall be well.
Just awesome y'all are my new found hero's lol I think everything you have shared I have learned from your informative and show the process that s why I personally watch UA-cam I work like crazy hours as a construction buisness owner my self completely understand just keep making videos the most.random videos in my experiences as a watcher are the best hey godbless. yes I am binge watching.and don't let the neg jelouse goofs make y'all stop.
Costco shopping? You guys are very blessed you are able to make a change as needed we would be a bit stuck in the same situation. You two are a great team
Hi, sorry the last property didn't work out, good luck with the new one, more info on your new homestead would be great if you are comfortable sharing it,
You guys are going to do great. When do you plan on moving? We are moving to Washington in about 3 months to start our new adventure on some property we are buying now. Keep posting videos about whats going on with your new place. Love to see progress, it motivates me to make our dreams come true. :)
Sorry I missed the live stream last night. Too late for me. Wishing you the very best. Thanks for taking us along. I totally enjoy you short snippets into your every day Life. Your problems and solutions and advice. The sharing of information it a great aspect to you channel. Oh! ???Will you be near a WinCo??? We live 2+ hours one way from a Home Depot or Lowe's so can relate to the remoteness.
You guys are smart assessing the overall situation and making decisions based in what is best for your family. Putting your kids first is paramount. Although, too bad that you'll have to leave the rock wall and 90 million ton scoop behind. Maybe there'll be some rocks at your new place! Hombre: good that you'll be close to Home Depot. Wifey: hopefully a Costco is close, too!
We know. When we had to leave Oregon we left everything we had built. We left our church and friends and family. We are still looking for where to go. But leaving is hard. Good luck to you. We will follow your journey.
Well I will be looking for videos from you showing the changes to your plans and the modifications as you make them. When you can smile at the changes then I will laugh with you Joshua and see how you get things together, with a twinkle in you guys eyes. It will get done just a little longer than planned. We will get a few more videos out of this but still will enjoy your company.
Sad to hear that circumstances are chasing you so far from friends and family. I think about the blood, sweat and tears you put into the Jolly Green Giant’s rock garden. My sincere hope will be that no matter where you land, may the rocks be no bigger than a loaf of bread. There is a saying about doors and windows and it has nothing to do with building houses. You will be amazed when God makes his plan known to you. I wish you all the best. I assume we’ll continue to hear from you as your journey proceeds. I’m rooting for this wonderful family.
Sounds like you put a lot of thought into this move and it's the best decision for your family. We are frustrated with our location because our HOA is so restrictive. And we don't have much land (just under 1.5 acres). I LOVE our house though. If I could just move my house to a little more acreage out of an HOA I would love it. We do love the area we live in though.....You guys are resilient! It will be interesting to see how you settle into your new area.
Born and raised in N. Idaho. It used to be amazing and a wonderful place to live. Now thats changed and it's not near what it used to be thanks to folks like this. Prices have skyrocketed and it's now basically subdivided and a real estate economy for folks who are looking to leave the mess of the cities they lived in and they only bring their laws and issues with them. I truly with folks not come to Idaho but that boat has sailed and it's no longer the last best place.
HOA's can be a pain in the butt until your neighbor decides that his property should be a dirt bike track 7 days a week within sight and sound of your $500,000.00 home that you worked ten years building. I wish I lived in an HOA now. I can't get $250,000.00 for my home now. I used to overlook 20 acres of beautiful farmland (not mine) now the new Owner has turned it into a dirt bike track in the warm weather and snow mobile track in the winter. I can't even use my outside property because of the noise and fumes and there is nothing I can do about it. HOA's look pretty good to me.
Welcome to the pan handle...I didn't hear what town you'd be close to....I grew up in southern ID. little town called Kuna .. 800 ppl ( when I was there ) now exploded 21k last I heard...miss the beauty of ID. if I could talk my wife into selling this house ..I'd move back NB to McCall or maybe Haden lake area.....good luck on your move and building your home stead.
CC&R is local ordinances ? Impressed that your decision making put the emphasis on your children's best life. So many people just drag their kids around their own selfish desires. I'm sure you'll miss Julie and John but also sure that Jesse and Alyssa will feed you ice cream whenever you see them :)
I feel your angst. I'm now 60 and making solid plans to uproot, (again), and start over. But ya gotta do what you feel is best for YOUR future and peace of mind. My biggest regret is gonna be being a full day's travel from my grandsons instead of 20 minutes. But I'm going regardless.
I’m 60 also and have been thinking really hard about doing that too. We are raising 2 grandchildren and I’m just not happy with the schools in my area. Thanks for letting me know I’m not the only one starting over!
I've been struggling with this exact issue for a couple years now and still don't know how I would leave my grandkids to go finally live my dream. The mountains are calling my name and I must go.
my hubs and I are 61 and moving this year to the mountains over 5 hours from here. next 5 months fixing up our suburban house while our cabin is being built. I am in treatment for second cancer and not greatly in shape but we will have well /septic in an under 400 square foot house and NO vacuum cleaner. Oncolgist is hooking me up with a treatment center there. I am silver haired but still doing it. NOTHING will keep me from it now
Good on you for making the difficult decision to move after the hard work to be able to do what you want with your land. We are living in our LAST home that will be under an HOA. It is a ridiculous concept for inept/lazy humans.
I love the panhandle of Idaho. I lived in Lewiston for a while then moved down near craigmont for almost 5 year's. Would move back in a heart beat if i could. Portland Oregon sucks 🙁.
Wish you the best and I look forward to seeing it come together for you. I'm trying to get my wife to go and take a look at Idaho but so far she like the warm weather of Arizona.
Congrats!! I have seen many videos on the north panhandle and that seems like a great spot. I remember a number of months ago when we spoke briefly on the phone about the area as I was looking to buy property and put a small cabin on it like your previous place in either Idaho or Montana. You mentioned then you liked the flat area and not the mountains where I was hoping to find. Are you now planning to live up in the mountain hillside?? This place sounds like the exact type of place I am looking for. No to very limited CC&R’s. Congrats again!!
Congrats on relocating!! What is the soil like in NE Idaho? The channel Dirtpatcheaven talked about a lot of rocks? Can’t wait to see this new journey..
Great video, glad to see you bounce back and not give up on the dream. My question is...with the change in elevation and being a little bit lower, are you guys going to try a garden and maybe some livestock?
Going though the same challenges myself and doing it from 1700 miles away is a Daunting task but after a recent visit To northern Idaho i know where I want to be as well a what freedoms I’m looking for as well good luck from concrete guy form Missouri
Prior to closing the purchase of your property you must have been provided a copy of the Title Report which would have referenced any recorded documents (including CC&R's) that you were agreeing to live by.
Out 200, in the shadow of Schweitzer, beautiful country, my kids live a few miles away, enjoy it .( Joels is the place where contractors meet up for lunch:)
Exciting news. We are moving there in Feb. Rent in SP, looking for land to homestead this year. If we can be good neighbors and help each other through the transition, reach out brother.
Not sure if the laws are different in ID, but in WA when the kids homeschool they still can turn out for sports at the public school and even take music classes.
I'm enjoying your journey! I think you are very wise not to continue to invest yourselves in a place that just was not going to fit your needs in the long term. You worked so hard and I feel sad about it in a way, but I can relate as far as the isolation and the cold, fer sure. Everybody has to have their getting stuck stories--I have several in snow, ice and mud. :) Even with good tires, chains and even with bald. lol That's life. So, the place you are standing in this vid is the Idaho property? I hope you take us for a tour of it soon. :)
Your kids can be home schooled and still join the Sports teams and band and drama etc at the local HighSchool or Jr. High. I have worked in both West Bonner Co Sch DIst and Lakeland and that is common practice. We are looking for land this Spring. We have struggled and worked hard all our lives. Lost everything (farm) in 2008. Hubby is a Trucker and I teach online from home. We are looking for owner carry or lease option which is like a needle in a haystack. No HOA's No CCR's for us either. Having had a farm we are pretty well aware of what homesteading and off grid is all about. No rose colored glasses here.
You mentioned that you own a business. My wife and I are looking to start our own up and eventually that we would like to keep as an income source but move and go homestead in another state. Any advice you could give us on this?
Great video, I cant wait to see what your new place will be like, I like to see that you share a kiss on video. Don't ever be afraid to show that you love each other,
where did you move to? I am , from Alberta Canada and did the same things you are doing abut 35 years ago/ I love it and love to watch what you are doing becaus nei have probably been there or still am.
Having left suburbia, HOA's, crazy Codes, etc. etc. nearly four years ago, we strongly support your decision. The final straw was a committee of "individuals" who decided my American & Military flags & flag poles failed "architectural review". Screw 'em!!!
Will never live in an HOA neighborhood, or suburb again. Soooo many benefits to living outside city limits...freedom is a wonderful thing...
What hoa
Welcome to North Idaho! We moved here about a year and a half ago. It's been a great journey!
No matter the frequency of your videos I enjoy them all. Your journey is what brings me back. I watch 3 or 4 other Idaho homesteaders and enjoy all. You are what America is all about. A dream and how to get there. God Bless
Good video, now I understand and I agree. You are doing good work for your family and future.
Thanks for this info. I didn’t expect to hear these problems in Idaho. I plan on moving to an area in the future with no restrictions hopefully. I will be aware of these problems. Thank you. Keep the videos coming I love seeing the progress.
The energy and honesty in all your videos is appreciated. Thank you, God bless 😇📐🔨🔧😋

I get it. Your thought process is right-on in this decision. You're young and you'll recover with a big deposit in your wisdom bucket of life :-)
We’ll be starting our new North Idaho homesteads about the same time. I’m moving back to the Sandpoint area this spring. Definitely a lot less regulations than most places.
I’ve got skills but no money so planning to build a small 12x12 off grid log cabin with trees from my property. Last I checked it was a $500 building permit and that’s about it.
FREEDOM! Plus you all didn't want to live inside of a collapsed volcano anyways. Plus Stary Hilder and Pure life for living will be your neighbors
Wishing you all the best on your new adventure in life :)
Y'all are great. Wish I was close enough to work with Josh on the construction side. I feel like I could learn a lot.

Certainly buying in an undeveloped area has its risks. Gotta do the homework.
+Sonya....It's not gonna be easy for either of us, but the more you plan the more success you'll have. Baby steps!
NOTHING will keep me from it now
Awesome News! You go live that Dream!!!
Good on you for making the difficult decision to move after the hard work to be able to do what you want with your land. We are living in our LAST home that will be under an HOA. It is a ridiculous concept for inept/lazy humans.
What hoa
I love the panhandle of Idaho. I lived in Lewiston for a while then moved down near craigmont for almost 5 year's.
Would move back in a heart beat if i could. Portland Oregon sucks 🙁.
Wish you the best and I look forward to seeing it come together for you. I'm trying to get my wife to go and take a look at Idaho but so far she like the warm weather of Arizona.
good job!
As always good video.
Good luck with what ever you do.
And do what fells natural to you regarding what to video.
Hope this finds you well .
We would love to hear more about your move, Send us an email and lets talk!
Then it sounds like we are headed to Joels for lunch today! I love there tasty breakfast burritos
Enjoy!
You'll have to do a drone shot or a google map shot of you property when you get time.
When did we ever have north Idaho, I must of miss it in school ..
Exciting news. We are moving there in Feb. Rent in SP, looking for land to homestead this year. If we can be good neighbors and help each other through the transition, reach out brother.
north Idaho is full you guys wouldn't like it here ;)
lol
You’re really moving to escape the hell of browns and blacks. Makes perfect sense. Nothing is more rational than “white flight.”
Live and learn. The journey is taking you to where you need to go. Follow it :-)
You mentioned that you own a business. My wife and I are looking to start our own up and eventually that we would like to keep as an income source but move and go homestead in another state. Any advice you could give us on this?
We love watching your videos! You are going to love it up here! Are you looking for work? 😀
We love bonner and are out looking for work projects so please let me know if you hear of something.
We purchased 20 acres in Priest River and are possibly looking for a general contractor.
Great video, I cant wait to see what your new place will be like, I like to see that you share a kiss on video. Don't ever be afraid to show that you love each other,
Yvonne Johnson he’s gonna do that more now that you gave him permission 😉
