      Here's how I look at it, they were a Big 3. Say what you want, but 3 All-NBA players on your team is 10000% a Big 3. The reason i respect it is bc all of the three star players were drafted by the Warriors. A superteam would be more of 3 great players of which 2 are MVP worthy or have at least made an All-NBA first team like twice in their career

    • @kingkunta2977
      @kingkunta2977 3 роки тому +5

      @@anonymoustangerine I would gauge a big 3 by if all three stars could lead a team by themself in that sense, the 2016 Warriors weren’t a big 3. A superteam is a team with 2 MVP caliber players and two all-star caliber players

    NBA is good until a young Superstar is mismanaged by his original Franchise and gets tired of carrying a team and getting taken out, or a Superstar who is in a good situation but is getting deep into his prime without a ring decides he needs a couple easy ones again.

      What's weird about this is that players leave and form these super teams, but they aren't satisfied. They know that they could win a few championships, but they know its value is far lower than others. I can assure you most players would rather win in a 2011 Mavs or 2016 Cavaliers scenario than the 2017 or 2018 Warriors

    • @stevenkunzer9027
      @stevenkunzer9027 5 років тому +16

      Yes hopefully 17 and 18 are telling enough to the athletes. By 18 the Warriors had forced grins on their face and their GM was dissing one of the players at the parade joke or not.
      I can live with a Superteam if it is counterbalanced with 2-3 other strong teams that can keep up. But the Team USA shit kept me away from the sport for a couple years other than videos like on this channel.

      It’s because you’re at the height of the professional basketball world. You get here through hard work and competitiveness your entire life. Sure the super team rings feel good, but deep down, it’s like taking candy from a baby, it’s a handicap, it doesn’t feel as good. Everyone’s inner competitor knows this and wants it. We got a little taste of uncertainty this year with Kevin Durant out and this is what makes the league great. Real fans don’t want to see super teams, unless they’re bandwagon fans who follow players to every team.

      The original balance was broken. 1 superstar for each team and if you got 2 you are a championship contender. If your team has chemistry or somewhat decent tactics, you can survive without superstars just fine.

      honestly I like duos the most but I also like when teams just have one superstar and build a perfect team around them. teams I can think of like that are the Dwight's Orlando magic, AI's 2001 76ers, Lebron's first cavs, JKidds nets, Dirks Mavs, Nashs suns, KGs timberwolves, spurs. Also when a team has no superstars at all but just play solid as a team like the 2000s pistons, early 2000s Sacramento kings, early to Mid 2000s Pacers, early 2000s blazers. basically I like everything except what the warriors did. I can tolerate big 3s as long as there are multiple teams that can at least compete with them. like the heat yeah they had 3 great players but there were still legitimate contenders that could push them to the limit.

    • @narrow3601
      @narrow3601 Рік тому

      @@cjvaye99 your talking about some of the worst teams in nba history. That 2001 sixers are widely considered to be the 2nd worst finals team in nba history behind LeBron's first cavs which I'll get to later but that squad was one shot away from being solo squadded by Vince Carter then should have lost to the bucks in 6 (The 2001 Bucks oddly enough actually fits your assessment) until the refs decided to make poor decisions in game 5-7 even keeping some Bucks players and most of their bigs out for the entire series for a lot of weak shit that David Stern himself said weren't deserving of series bans. Then the first cavaliers who you said were "perfectly built" around LeBron was really just LeBron, other than Ilgauskas the Cavs didn't even have anyone else that were remotely close to being good, 2009 vs Magic is a perfect example, LeBron Put up herculean efforts of 40 pts a night, 9 rebounds and 5 assists per game for that entire series and they still lost in six, then when LeBron left cleveland the squad still had the same exact roster they surrounded around the LeBron and they were a lottery team, and yeah I know what your gonna say that that team was built around LeBron so when he left they weren't gonna be as good, yeah obviously but there's also teams like the 2011 bulls who when losing their superstar DRose decided to run it back and became a perennial top 5-2 seed consistently, there's also the Raptors who when Kawhi left were still a 50+ win 2 seed after he left, then there's the Boston Celtics who were literally going through a rebuild this entire decade and still were always top seeds in the east. Those are perfectly built rosters as you can see even when they lost their star they could still fend for themselves, the Cavs could not. And JKidd nets I know they made back 2 back finals but come on they were never winning.

      On paper and at the time no one was calling them anything close to a super team. I remember everyone calling them too old and washed up before the most beautiful team display in NBA history that was the 2014 finals (yeah, I'm a Spurs' fan).
      I don't think you remember how limited Kawhi was offensively. Yeah, he was crazy efficient in 2014, but that was really his 1st season of being an offensive threat. I love Timmy D but he had lost many steps and Ginobili had 1 or 2 seasons in the early teens that I'd rather forget. And Boris Diow had all kinds of shade thrown at him.

      I mean the East was somewhat Uncompetitive during the decade
      . Heats had only seen 7 games in the East Twice and no one really had a chance to beat them exception of a declining Celtics and if u wanna reach The Pacers?
      .Kyrie, Bron, and Love never seen 7 games out East and the East has really only been competitive since 17-18 (And there were no iconic Eastern Matchups against this big three if were being honest)
      .In 16-17 Warriors swept the West in pretty much a guaranteed championship and the Finals was arguably one of the Worst going 4-1 and the next year sweep on a Cavs team that really had 0 chances of winning the title (I will admit the East Was exciting in 2018 tho)
      .Bad Matchups and A LOT OF REMATCHES in the finals and not good ones to boot
      1)Spurs v. Heat Rematch was bad due to the lack of competition the 2nd time around (Although 12-13 was one of the best finals ever imo which makes 13-14 worst imo due to hype)
      2)Warriors v. Cavs lost all competitiveness and allure after KD situation and Warriors went 3-1 and won 15/22 (68%) of games against the Cavs not to mention it had a sweep and Gentleman's Sweep
      3)Raptors v. Warriors wasn't bad in terms of the play but the controversy left such a bad taste in my mouth and played on the fact the Raptors title was strongly influenced by the Duns misfortune
      4)Thunder v. Heats is hard to talk bad about considering how much I liked those teams but the only reason they were even able to hang around was KD and even with him they were hanging by a thread the Heat had the better players Matchup wise, better coaching, and more experience and basically had a field day getting 4 straight wins after the one loss at Oklahoma.
      .

    • @probablyDae5832
      @probablyDae5832 4 роки тому

      Although we had 7 different teams win toward the middle of the decade a lot of those wins are bathed in controversy or general Uncompetitiveness mainly the last 5 titles with 2 being completed decimations on the Warriors end and 3 being dictated by injury (& a Draymond Green ejection) And of course it's not gonna change the Championship meaning a title is a title but when I look back on it I'm not gonna see those playoffs as must see Hardwood Classics. In fact the only ones that fot that criteria are Cavs 3-1 comeback and Raptors 1st title and that's mainly because of story not the level of basketball played competitively.

I can agree they were really talented and locked up the east but in the same way lebron did, the east was absolute trash and their competition was essentially the lebron lead cavs. No other teams had a star and supporting cast so of course the celtics ran thru the east.the west they werent going to no finals. Whats made the heat a superteam was the fact they had 3 the top 5-15 players on the squad. Where as the celtics were 3 great players on a great team. Yes it started the idea but didnt come to fruition till lebron took his talents to south beach.

      Fidh Gat I never considered the Spurs a super team. They just had a ton of talent playing team ball. Nobody had them winning the championships outright before the season started like the Warriors and Heat. The Celtics made the finals twice but their fans and some players act like they won multiple championships. They weren’t the same after KGs injury in the ECSF in 08-09. The Warriors imo are the only super team we’ve seen the past 10 years. Heat won 2 titles but they easily could’ve gone 1-3 if Kawhi Leonard doesn’t miss his free throws in Game 6. Then Dwade started to fall off after 2011. The Warriors are the only top team the past 10 years to even have 4 all stars in their primes without major injuries or just starting their prime. The 08-12 Celtics were late prime. The Spurs were really past their primes. The 2011-2012 season you could tell Dwade was slowing down.

    It's naive to think that the superteam era is over.
    Remember the 2000s? When young Wade carried his team to a title? When Kobe was the only superstar (not star, superstar) on back to back title teams?
    Ask yourself this: could a single superstar win a title by himself next season, or in the next few years? The answer is no. Kawhi did do it, yes. But you all saw the incredible luck that the Raptors had. Down 2-1 to the Sixers, and won Game 7 on a ridiculous buzzer beater. Down 2-0 to Milwaukee, and Game 3 went to overtime! One bounce the wrong way, and it's 3-0 Bucks and goodbye Raptors. And the Finals? KD gone, Klay injured, Cousins recovering, Looney injured, Iggy injured. Unbelievable. The Raptors were SO close to losing in 3 different rounds. Nothing like this is even remotely likely to happen again.
    Nothing resembling 2019 will happen in the upcoming future. You think a single superstar team is geeting past the Lakers, with 2 Top 5 players in the league? Past the Clippers, with 2 Top 10 players in the league? Past the Sixers, with (hopefully) 2 Superstars and one more star? Hell no.
    And this brings me to my real point: for now, yes, we do not have a 2017 Warriors-style 4 star superteam. But we do have teams with 2 megastars and great role players/secondary stars. And players haven't suddenly decided not to team up. Heck, Kawhi recruited PG specifically so that they will form the best team in the league. What can possibly stop 3 stars from teaming up next year, or 2 or 3 years from now, if they so choose? Just last year, Boogie made the unprecedented decision of taking just 5 million to win a ring. It didn't work out, but boy did they come close and 99 out of 100 times, the Warriors win that title. The injuries to them were unbelievable.
    Don't be naive, this is my point.

      2 stars and role players are 1 star way from a super team.
      Imagine this (not impossible) scenario: Kawhi fails to win a title with LAC, opts out after 2 years and signs a contract with the Lakers. This is all it takes for the Lakers to become a nigh-unbeatable superteam, even with LeBron being 36/37 (still Top 10 by that time). It won't take convincing 2 or 3 stars to join your team, just 1. Much, much simpler.
      Or imagine if the Clippers or a similar team packages role players and young up-and-comers for another star. Bam, you got a superteam.
      Do you understand my point now?

      The league is more like it used to be, meaning there isn't just 1 team that is so much better than everyone.

      Joshua Buell Your nets and the clippers are gonna be great. In that past y’all and the clippers were the little brothers to the Knicks And lakers now it’s even between LAL and LAC while y’all gonna be big dogs of Brooklyn, NY while the Knicks are bunch of puppies

      Damon snacks Harrison nah I actually like Lebron believe it or not. I respect his greatness. Same with Kobe. I actually have a number 8 Kobe jersey. It’s not even because LAL beat the next in like 2002. It’s kinda how ppl hate the Cowboys.

      Boomer Sooner I think so too. I feel like even if Brooklyn don’t win a chip, I’m cool with that because the fact that we beat out our instate rivals to two star free agents, something we’ve never done, and although it’s a risky move, it’s better than mediocrity.
